Derek Lam is a fashion designer specializing in high end women's apparel and accessories. After four years of working for Michael Kors, in 2003 he launched his own label and debuted his first collection at New York Fashion Week in September 2003.
The Look
Lightweight fabrics with clean silhouettes are a trademark for Lam's raw silk sheath dresses with low necklines. Considered very feminine, Lam's Fall collections enter contrast with wide-leg pants in various types of wool wrapped up with stiff belts and cashmere pea coats. The look gives a sharp, timeless feel, working in the same vein as Michael Kors with the attempt to reinvent American sportswear.
