Denver, also know as the The Mile-High City, is the capital, as well as the largest city in Colorado. The city is home to the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Avalanche. Sports and winter sports play a major part in the economy of the city.
Attractions
Denver is full of attraction; from historic buildings and museums to amusement parks and zoos, there is an experience for every member of the family. The Denver Zoo is a great place to take the family and it's open over day of the year. Winter admission rates are a bit cheaper then the summer rates, but both are still worth the purchase. There are more then 700 different species of wildlife to explore, including mammals, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and even plant life. There is a "Safari Shuttle" that runs from spring until fall, and for a low fee park guest can tour the entire zoo on all the paths that are provided. There is also a program developed just for the kids that includes activities, rides and can even host birthday parties. On their website, children can download their favorite animal for their computer background.
Activities
There is no shortage of activities in the Denver region either. From the four major sport teams to the amusement parks and skiing Rocky Mountains around the city, there is always something to do. Hiking, biking and and many winter sports are some popular active pursuits with in the city limits and around the mountains.
If you're a sports fan, Denver covers all areas. They are home to the four major sports organizations. The Pepsi Center is home to the NHL team, the Colorado Avalanche and the NBA team, the Denver Nuggets. For baseball, visit Coors Field and watch the Colorado Rockies play, train or practice. The Denver Broncos play and practice football at Invesco Field at Mile High.
