  • Early History

The Denver Nuggets were originally founded in 1967 as the Denver Rockets of the American Basketball Association. When the franchise joined the NBA, the name was changed to Nuggets, since the Houston Rockets already existed in the NBA. The Nuggets were one of four teams to move to the NBA. The others were the New York Nets, San Antonio Spurs, and Indiana Pacers. After joining the NBA, the Nuggets success carried over from the ABA in their first two seasons.
