    Wideman began his career in the Ontario Hockey League, playing for the Sudbury Wolves, then the London Knights. He was drafted 241st overall in the 2002 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. Wideman continued to play in the OHL, then signed as a free agent with the St. Louis Blues on June 30, 2004. Wideman made his NHL debut the following year, splitting the season between the Blues and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen. On February 27, 2007, he was traded to the Boston Bruins. In 2008, Wideman made his playoff debut with the Bruins, playing six post season games as the Bruins were defeated in the first round by the Montreal Canadiens.
