Dennis Scott was born September 5, 1968 in Hagerstown, Maryland. He played high school basketball in Virginia at Flint Hill where he became known as a sharp shooter who can shoot anywhere and make a lot of shots. He also was their best player. With his height, strength, shooting ability and quickness he once played every position for his high school team. He then went to Georgia Tech to play small forward for the yellow jackets. His first game as a yellow jacket he recorded a triple double and soon became a relentless scoring force. After his third season at Georgia Tech in which he averaged over 27 points per game, he entered the NBA draft and got selected by the Orlando Magic with the 4th overall pick. Dennis earned the nickname "3-D" in his NBA debut, while wearing the number three; after hitting three, three-point field goals during a three-minute span.

In 1999-2000 season Dennis Scott signed a 10 day contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves on March 17, 2000.

On March 27, 2000 he signed with them for the remainder of the season. During his time with Minnesota he averaged 9.1 points per game which was his lowest total in his career. This was all before he was with the New York Knicks the same season when he signed with the Knicks on January 24th. He only played in 15 games averaging 2.9 points per game before getting cut and going to Minnesota for the rest of the season. In 2001 Dennis Scott tried to make a comeback with former teammate Shaquille O’Neal with the Los Angeles Lakers but due to a star powered roster and a veteran roster the Lakers went with a young star and cut Dennis Scott, ending his career.
