  • Actor and director Dennis Hopper is best known for playing eccentric, often mentally disturbed characters. His directorial debut, Easy Rider, was a landmark film in the counterculture of the 1960s.
  • 1960s and 1970s

After a series of supporting roles in the mid-1960s, Hopper had a hit with Easy Rider. The film had great success, but Hopper's personal life was in turmoil. His marriage to Brooke Hayward ended and he reportedly had trouble collaborating with co-star Peter Fonda and his editing team. His follow-up film, The Last Movie, was met with confusion and negative reviews. The following decade saw two more failed marriages and a notorious abuse of drugs and alcohol. Author Peter Biskind claims that in the late 1970s, Hopper was consuming three grams of cocaine and 30 beers per day.
  • 1980s and Beyond

Hopper entered a drug rehabilitation program in 1983. He had a resurgence as an actor in Speed. He was cast as a villain in Waterworld and the first season of 24. He stars as an aging music producer in the television version of Crash, which airs Fridays on the Starz network.
