  • Denmark is a constitutional monarchy that is part of Scandinavia. It occupies a peninsula, Jutland, on the European mainland as well as an archipelago of islands that divides the North Sea from the Baltic Sea.
  • History

    In medieval times, Denmark repeatedly conquered Sweden, then allowed Sweden to slip away. In 1643, Sweden turned around and conquered parts of Denmark.

    Denmark became a constitutional monarchy in 1849.

    Germany invaded Denmark in 1940, and continued to occupy the country during World War II.

  • Climate and Culture

    Denmark has a moist maritime climate and is the most temperate of the Scandinavian countries. Its latitude gives Denmark similar extremes of day-length in the summer and the winter.
