Denis Johnson is an American author, poet and playwright. His most recent book, Tree of Smoke, was published in 2007
Career
Denis Johnson began writing at the University of Iowa during his graduate studies. He released his debut novel Angels in 1983 to critical acclaim. Johnson went on to write several collections of poems and short stories. His essay book Jesus' Song was optioned and released as a film in 1999. Johnson's most recent work Tree of Smoke won the National Book Award.
