The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is a political party in Taiwan defined chiefly by its strong support for Taiwanese independence from China. It is the controlling member of Taiwan's Pan-Green Coalition, and used to be the majority party until 2008's legislative election. Frank Hsieh was the DPP's official candidate in the 2008 presidential election.
