The Democratic Party Italy is a liberal, center-left, political party in Italy. Led by Walter Veltroni, the party was founded on October 14, 2007 and is a coalition of several left-wing and moderate liberal parties. Generally, the party supports strengthening and expanding the European Union, a focus on environmental issues, and social-liberalism. The Democratic Party Italy has also been instrumental in Italy's constitutional reforms to move towards a two-party system. They received 37.5% of the vote and 239 parliamentary seats in the recent Italian General Election.
