Born and raised in London, as a teenager Delroy Lindo moved with his mother to Canada and then San Francisco where he eventually graduated from the American Conservatory Theater. Lindo landed his first film role in 1976 and, after appearing in More American Graffiti in 1979, spent 10 years performing in various theatrical productions both on and off Broadway. In 1992 he appeared in the Spike Lee film Malcom X. His performance impressed the director so much that he was cast as the patriarch Woody Carmichael in Lee's semi-autobiographical comedy Crooklyn. 1996 proved to be a big year for Lindo as he appeared in major supporting roles in six features including: 'Clockers, Get Shorty and Broken Arrow.
