Dell Slate is the name of a prototype tablet PC that Dell excecutives showed at CES 2010. The official name will be Dell Mini 5 according to the company http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/30646/dell-internet-tablet-slate-announced . Dell refused to tell any details about the product and only showed it for a couple of minutes to the reporters at CES. So for now there is much speculation about what kind of product it will be and what the main competitors will be. Possible competitors are the Archos Internet Tablet or the recently announced JooJoo (the tablet formerly known as the CrunchPad or even the mythical Apple iSlate.
It is quite small for a tablet PC (the prototype had a 5 inch screen) but Dell told reporters that the company is experimenting with several different screen sizes. the executive declined to discuss technical details of the prototype. The camera will have two camera's on each side of the tablet so users can take pictures of them selves or others. Not much is yet known about the Dell Slate.
Features and Functions
Not much is yet known about the Dell Slate. It will use the Open Source Operating System Android. The prototype of the device that Dell showed had a 5 inch screen, two built-in camera (one on each side of the tablet) and probably an built-in SIM card option. Other known details are that the prototypes at CES ran Android 1.6, it will be available in various colors including red, black, and pink and the Dell Slate / Dell 5 Mini will have a multitouch screen. Not much is yet known about the Dell Slate.
