Delaware

Delaware is one of the fifty states of the United States. Ranked forty ninth in area and forty fifth in population, Delaware remains the second smallest state. However, aside from its small population, Delaware is consider to be the seventh most densely populated state. Delaware sits on the East Coast and touches the Atlantic Ocean. Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey are Delaware's bordering states.

Brief History and Background

The Unami Lenape, an Eastern Algonquian tribe, inhabited Delaware prior to European settlement. The first Europeans to inhabit Delaware were the Dutch in 1631. However, in 1664, Delaware was taken by the British.
