MC and producer Del the Funky Homosapien (sometimes spelled Del Tha Funkee Homosapien) founded the famed Oakland hip-hop crew The Hieroglyphics soon after. His most recent effort is the 2008 solo effort Eleventh Hour.
Solo Career
Del started his solo career as part of the backing band for his cousin Ice Cube, then known as Da Lench Mob. At age 19, he recorded his solo debut, I Wish My Brother George Was Here, produced by Cube. He split with his cousin for the follow-up, No Need for Alarm, which introduced Del's more underground, jazzy and less aggressive sound.
He aligned with Dan The Automator and Kid Koala for side project Delton 3030 in 2000 and contributed to the Gorillaz self-titled debut album in 2001. His latest release, Eleventh Hour is his first release on the label Definitive Jux.
Hieroglyphics
Del formed Heiroglyphics in 1991 with other underground Oakland rappers, including Casual, Domino and Pep Love. The group built a fan base slowly through live concerns and podcasts (known as "Hierocasts"). They have released two studio albums, 1998's 3rd Eye Vision and 2003's Full Circle.
