Del Mar Racetrack History
The Del Mar Racetrack was built on the Del Mar Fairgrounds in 1936. The land was purchased for $25,000 from the State Department of Fairs & Expositions. Actors and horse racing enthusiasts Bing Crosby and Pat O'Brien helped fund the track's construction and were members of the Del Mar's board of directors.
