Chapter Eight: Search and Rescue

- Back on the bridge. Head in and stop by the Store if you need anything, then go through the door into the atrium. Before you do anything else, you can head left to the broken door and make for a work bench. There's also a green crate here.
- Head any further into the atrium and it begins to fill with necromorphs. You start with a wave of several yellow pod monsters, the ones that explode if you shoot that limb.
- Start on the left side of the room. Fight off the pods here, then when more drop in on your right, run toward the front of the bridge and take them out from as far away as you can manage.
- When you've dealt with those, a pair of hard-to-kill black necromorphs show up. They're backed up by at least one black crawling necromorph.
- Your best strategy is to stay at the front stairs that lead down to the captain's nest. Kill the first necromorph, which will charge you.
- If you stay here, you may avoid detection from the other two necromorphs. One is a crawler that's on the wall directly across from you, up high, and the other is marauding around near the doors you came in through.
- With some luck, you can blast both at a distance. When they're dead, the quarantine will be lifted. Run around and pick up ammo, and empty the lockers, which are now unlocked.
- Save, then take the elevator marked to Mining Admin and the Comms Array. Take it up to Level Three.
- Gather up the goods and round the corner. You've got two hanging bloated necromorphs ahead, but only one you can see now. Cut its six tentacles to kill it, then turn your attention to the one around the corner to the left.
- TIP: If you need to, you can backtrack to the store for more ammunition.
- Continue forward through the door to the Comms Array. On the other side, you'll confront a new monstrosity - what we'll call a Tall Man necromorph.
- These things are tough to kill. Try to hack off its arms. Eventually you'll knock it down, but be aware that it'll split up into several little pieces that run around independently of the whole, trying to kill you. They're mean, too.
- TIP: When the little tentacle things are after you, the Force Gun is highly effective.
- The next room gives you access to a save point and a work bench. Use them and take the lift.
- Audio Log! At the top of the lift, right in the walkway.
- Through the door and you've got another fun gondola ride. Look behind the gondola (where the switch is orange) for some ammo hidden on the track.
- Power Node! Blue panel to the left of the door as you come in.
- Enter the Comm Array at the other end. Look left for a schematic, then charge your Stasis on the right. Save here also and take the door out.
- Power Node! Inside the next room, to the left.
- Go through the airlock into the Comms Array. There are already three black crawling necromorphs here. Kill them from afar if you can or start jumping around to engage them.
- When they're cleared out, start looking around for green intact array pieces. There are red ones, which are broken, and functional green ones.
- Gather up the green ones and plug them into the first ring of the array. Use Kinesis to set the pieces in their places, and pull out the red ones to get them out of the way. When you've completed the ring with green pieces, you'll complete the objective.
- Return to the gondola and take it back to the other side. When you go through the door, the lift will be down and a black necromorph will be on it when it comes up. Blap it with Stasis and take it out.
- Back to the entrance to the Comms Array. Turn right to the newly opened door to the ADS cannon. Take the lift up, grab the gear from the lockers, and continue through the door into the cannon room.
- Power Node! To the right as you come into the cannon room.

Boss Fight: Slug
- Save, then take the cannon chair. When you fire on the big goopy mess outside, the Slug will sprout tentacles, which will then start picking up chunks of stuff to heave at you.
- Shoot down the bits of garbage and try to score hits on the tentacles to cut them off. Aim, obviously, for the swollen yellow spots.
- Concentrate on a single arm and try to destroy it. It's effective to tag the arms in their weak spots as they're working to wrench up stuff, as well as right before they throw it. This will usually cause them to drop whatever they're holding or otherwise screw up the throw.
- Best, though, is if you can hit a piece of debris while it's in the creature's "hand." This is especially true of the explosive orange canisters, which do massive damage to the tentacles if you blow them before the monster can throw them.
- Just stick with it. Try to learn the angle at which all the debris comes at you - it's all at a fairly uniform level across the middle of the screen, a little higher than the center. If you get good at hitting that spot, you can take out most of the debris before it gets to you.
- Fire in short bursts. Don't overload your cannon. Pick your shots, and if you can't hit anything worthwhile, wait until you can.
- If you can concentrate on a single arm and remove it, you'll make the odds a little better. Concentrate on removing one piece at a time to make things a little easier on you.
- ACHIEVEMENT ALERT! You'll win the Slugger achievement if you win this battle with better than 50 percent hull integrity. Winning also gets you the [[Dead Space Walkthrough#Get Off My Ship!|Get Off My Ship!]] achievement.
- Save and leave the cannon. Follow your tracks backward toward the atrium.
- When you come to the room where you killed the two big bloated hanging necromorphs, you'll see more dismembered pieces moving around. Kill or avoid them and hurry down the hall.
- The lift will take you back to the atrium. There's another tall man here. Most effective from a defensive standpoint against these guys is the Force Gun, because it knocks them down and effectively takes them out of the fight. It drains ammo, however.
- Leave the room when you're done. Stop by the Store, quickly, then start down the hall. A bloated necromorph will appear around the corner.
- Drop the monster and any little dismembered pieces that it leaves off, then continue to the tram to end the chapter.
