Chapter Six: Environmental Hazard

- Audio Log! Grab it as you step off the tram, to the left.
- You're in Hydroponics. Take the hall and stop at the body to find a bathroom with loot inside. The left side is clear but the right side has tiny triangular goop monsters inside.
- Continue on to a cargo lift. At the top, grab the schematic on the ground and some ammo from green crates to the left. Then keep going through the door.
- Grab the loot off the ground here as you get an objective update. Continue through the door to find a save station and a store.
- Start by heading to the West Grow Chamber. At the end of the hallway, open the door and stop in the doorway to watch the jets ahead of you fire. You don't want to be hit by those.
- Wait for the jets to fire to move through the area, stopping in front of each jet. The first room contains some locked footlockers; the second a work bench.
- Move to the end where there's a lift. Grab the ammo out of the lockers here and take it up.
- A necromorph waits at the top of lift. Kill it and continue to the doorway ahead, which leads to the West Growth Chamber.
- As you come in, the room fills with necromorphs. Your best strategy is to use a strong weapon like the Line Gun a just keep moving. For the most part, you should be able to fend off the horde.
- When you've cleared the room, follow the Guide Arrow to the back right room. Inside is your first target; a mutated crewmember that excretes poison gas.
- Kill this monster and get ready for an ambush from a strong black-and-orange necromorph. You can kill it or leave it in here, but it may follow you through the vents. In either case, make for the door.
- Back in the West Grow Room, follow your Guide Arrow to a newly unlocked door. Go through to find another mutated poison-puffer. Kill it.
- When you return to the Grow Room, you'll face one of the bloated necromorphs. Kill it quickly and aim high, or it will spew the little triangle guys at you.
- TIP: You may want to backtrack to the Food Storage room and save at some point during all this. If you're killed, you'll have to do everything in the West Grow Room all over again.
- Head to the elevator in the center of the room and ride it up to Level Two.
- TIP: From one corner of the catwalk up here, you can see the roof of a flat structure. Use Kinesis to grab the credits located there.
- Take the door that leads to Hyrdroponics Control, behind where the elevator lets out.
- You're in another room with a gas-maker enemy. Before you kill it, however, get the loot from the locker, then head to the other end of the room where the explosive canisters are.
- Use Kinesis to pile two of the bodies in the corner at the back of the room where you are. Leave the third.
- Now place the explosive canisters in front of you and stand at the back of the room. When you're standing in a position where you can hit the gas-puffer, with the canisters in front of you and only one corpse between you and the door, kill the puffer.
- As soon as the gas-puffer dies, the room fills with air and two winged zombie-maker necromorphs show up. They'll go directly to the corpses to reanimate them, except that you moved them.
- Grab a canister and blast the zombie-makers. If it wasn't enough, hit them again. Two canisters should put both down with no new necromorphs to contend with.
- Backtrack toward the elevator and take the catwalk to the other door, which takes you to Refrigeration West. Save and continue down the hall.
- In the next room, you'll be confronted by a new brand of necromorph. These weird little half-guys have a big yellow pod on one arm. If you shoot the pod, it will explode. If it explodes to close to you, you die.
- Use a weapon that's good at range, like the Plasma Cutter, and blast the thing from far away in its pod. When it explodes, more will start pouring out of the vents at the far end of the room.
- Keep firing and try to catch these pod guys close together if you can. Exploding one will take out others. When they're all clear, gather up anything they dropped and continue on.
- The next room you enter will have a section that's experiencing Zero G. Empty the lockers and step in. Look up to see a metal plate that you'll need to move to the side with Kinesis before you can advance upward.
- As soon as you open the door, two fetus monsters will come flying out. Face them here, or run clear of the Zero G and shoot at them from an area where you have more control.
- Jump through into the next compartment. Do so carefully, as some of the walls are adorned with spikes.
- Open the door and go through into the next compartment, noting the round opening on one side. That's where a fetus necromorph will appear. Kill it quickly and keep your distance.
- You're clear to leave the Zero G compartments via the round opening, then take the hallway to Air Filtration.
- Audio Log! Take the catwalk right from the door to find it.
- Take the lift down to the air filtration tubes, which are essentially giant furnaces. Gather the loot and melee the power conduit beside the door to open it.
- From the doorway, blast the next power conduit with a weapon to open the next door. When the flames subside, go through to the next chamber, where no fire comes through.
- You will get ambushed by a necromorph here from above, so be ready. Then knock out the next conduit to open the door, and shoot through to clear the path. Run through.
- The gas pod is waiting for you on the other side. Kill it and take the lift here back up to the top.
- Power Node! Go to the control room over the fiery air filters to find the node to the right, inside a blue panel. There are other goodies in here as well.
- Take the catwalk past the lift and through a hall to return to the West Grow Room.
- Back in the Grow Room, you'll face a bloated necromorph and two fetus monsters. They're slow, so move away from them and kill them from a distance.
- At this point, you're half done with finding and killing the poison pods. Take the elevator in the center of the room up to Level Three. There, grab the Ruby Semiconductor and break the cases for some more money.
- TIP: Back on the ground floor, check the recessed area in the floor behind the elevator to find a Large Medpack that you can grab with Kinesis.
- Exit back to Atmosphere Control, the room where you started.
- Save, buy items, and head into the East Grow Room.
- Text Log! On the floor in the hallway outside the East Grow Room.
- Continue into the hall. Ahead is one of those big wall-mounted spewers, but you have no good way to fight it yet. Unfortunately, that means using conventional weapons.
- Stay back! Hit this thing hard but from far away. If you get too close, it'll toss those little pod guys at you. These things just explode at close range, and they pack a wallop.
- Do not open the second door until you're ready. Inside is some ammo, but also a necromorph. It isn't tough to kill, but why compound your problems? Also, in the first door is a work bench.
- Cut off the tentacles that hold the necromorph to the wall to kill it. When that's done, feel free to engage the one in the second room if you want.
- Use a Power Node to open the third door if you have one. Then take the lift up and continue on to the East Grow Room.
- If you couldn't tell from the layout, your dance partner in the East Grow Room will be a Brute. Like the other Brute fights, the key is keeping your distance.
- Unlike the other Brute fights, there's no cheap way to turn the battle in your favor here. You must face the Brute head-on.
- However, there is a decent strategy. Lure the Brute through the center structure in the room, which has entrances on each of its destroyed walls. The Brute will walk through these entrances, but the many corners here make you faster.
- When you have a decent amount of space between you, shoot the Brute in the face with whatever you're carrying. You should cause it to go into a defensive stance where it covers itself up.
- Now run around the side of it, outside the walls, and shoot through the beams and girders to hit the Brute in the back. The battle should go pretty easily. Afterward, collect a Power Node from the Brute's corpse.
- Your first poison pod is near the central elevator, in the recessed area behind it. Press the console nearby. This causes the floor cover overtop of the pod to slide clear. Hit the cover with Stasis, then blast the pod to kill it.
- Follow the Guide Arrow to Greenhouse A, one of the structures in this room. Head inside and kill the poison pod there.
- Check the other greenhouse for some pickups, but don't crush the green crate. It just has tiny monsters inside that will come after you if you let them out.
- Return to the central elevator. Take it up to Level Three. At the top is another poison pod. Squash it, then head down to Level Two.
- Audio Log! On the catwalk behind where the lift lets out on Level Two.
- Take the door to Refrigeration East and save. Then head into the refrigeration room.
- Power Node! To the left of the door as you enter the hallway leading to Refrigeration East.
- Continue along the hallway, which is full of that organic mess. You'll run into a familiar complication. Deal with it and continue to Refrigeration.
- Audio Log! In the hallway on the other side of the hallway covered in organic goo.
- The next area is Zero-G. Jump up to the next compartment and take a look around. There's a spinning piece of machinery that's throwing off sparks. Jump to where you're close to it and can see the opening to the right.
- Hit the spinning conductor with Stasis and jump through the hole. You'll deal with two fetus monsters here.
- Enter the last compartment and you'll find the poison pod, as well as three or so fetus monsters. Kill them all to complete this objective.
- Backtrack the way you came. When you approach the spazing electrical conduit, you'll find a switch to deactivate it. With that done, head through and leave Refrigeration.
- Head back to East Grow, saving along the way. As you exit from the bottom floor of the room back through toward Air Filtration, three necromorphs will be waiting for you.
- Back in Air Filtration, save and use the store for anything you might need. Then hit the console to recycle the air and open the door to Food Storage. Head there next.
- Audio Log! In the hallway on the way to Food Storage.
Boss Fight: Leviathan
- Enter Food Storage to do battle with the Leviathan, which is essentially a big wall with tentacles. You're in a cylindrical room with no gravity, which allows you to run around the outside of the room in a circle.
- Running in a circle will be your chief strategy. The Leviathan starts by thrusting tentacles in your direction, which will then sweep around half the room to hit you. If you stand still, you'll be hit.
- To avoid the sweeping tentacles, you can Zero-G Jump to a position on the other side of the cylinder. A better strategy, however, is just to pick a direction and run in it almost constantly, as soon as the tentacle comes out to attack you.
- Wait until the tentacle retracts part way into the Leviathan after it sweeps the room and shoot it in its yellow pod.
- TIP: There are all kinds of items scattered in this room, including explosive canisters. They make good improvised ammo against the tentacles and the Leviathan's mouth. There are also medpacks and ammunition refills all over.
- The tentacles will alternate, each coming out to attack you. Blast each one only after it partially retracts, or you'll just waste ammo.
- Eventually, you'll sever all three of the tentacles. When that happens, the Leviathan will start hucking "pods" at you, which are essentially rocks that explode. Continue running around the outer edge of the room to avoid getting hit. It throws five pods at a time.
- Hit the Leviathan in its open mouth when you have an opportunity to hurt it.
- ACHIEVEMENT ALERT! An even better strategy for fighting the Leviathan when it fires its pod is to catch the fifth one with Kinesis and throw it back into the Leviathan's mouth. Do so and you'll earn the Playing Catch achievement.
- Continue to dish out punishment to the Leviathan. Eventually, it will regrow its tentacles. The only difference from the last time is that now after each tentacle sweep, the Leviathan will shoot pods at you.
- That means don't bother to shoot the tentacles. Instead, wait for every fifth pod, catch it with Kinesis. Throw it back into the Leviathan's mouth. Soon it'll die and you'll complete the objective.
- ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY ALERT! Killing the Leviathan earns you the Exterminator achievement or trophy.
- Pick up the remaining loot from the room and head back to the tram station. It'll be smooth sailing. You can drop by the Store if you like as well. Board the tram to end the chapter.
