Chapter Five: Lethal Devotion
- YouTube: Dead Space - Mission 5
- Medical is a much bigger mess than when you left it. Notice the empty body bags lying around the area now.
- Head through the door and then take the only door available, toward the Imaging Wing. Through the door you'll face two fetus monsters in the darkness.
- Head into the room with the orange tube/bridge you moved last time you were here. You should see a explosive canister. Go ahead and grab it.
- Cross the tube railway and you'll see a person mounted to a wall. As you approach, tentacles come out, notifying you that the thing wants to kill you. Hit it with the canister.
- Head to the lift and ride it to the top. A fetus monster is up ahead, across the tube bridge. Kill it, then use Stasis on the bridge to cross over.
- On the other side is a Stasis recharge if you need it. Hit the bridge with Stasis again and cross to the save point and the door to the lab.
- Continue to the lift and ride down into the Chemical Lab.
- Audio Log! Just outside of the elevator.
- Follow the hall and enter the lab. You'll see a necromorph floating in a glass tube to your left. Bet that it will be attacking you shortly.
- Power Node! In between the two glass tanks. Grab it from the blue panel.
- Clean the room out. There are two green crates, a foot locker, and a schematic beside the door on the left. Once you're done, go to the console and hit the button.
- Of course, this triggers an event that ends with that glass tube being broken and that thing attacking you. It's indestructible, but fight it for a second anyway.
- TIP: A really good way to deal with this monster is to Stasis it and then cut it up with the Ripper. The sustained action of the saw blades will let you do massive damage to the slowed enemy. After cutting off a few limbs, you'll be told to run for it. Do so.
- The door ahead of you after you leave the Chemical Lab leads back to the main Imaging Lab. Cross the rail that controls the tube bridge slowly, as those goopy triangle things are in the area, hiding in the dark. Kill them before continuing.
- Run through the hallways until you make it back to the security station. Save.
- TIP: While you have access to the store, buy healing items so you're up to full strength and have a surplus. You should also buy one or two Stasis packs. You'll need them soon.
- Continue to the clinic. As you enter, the big necromorph (we'll call him Tyrant after a similar enemy in the Resident Evil franchise) will appear from the vent around the corner to your left.
- You'll face him alone for a second, but what you really have to do is kill the various necromorphs that invade the room around him. You need to kill all the necromorphs that will stay dead and then escape the room.
- This is a tough fight. The Tyrant is both indestructible and very powerful, as well as fast. He's hard to evade and he'll kill you in one or two attacks. Your best bet is to hit him with Stasis and run.
- So while the Tyrant is slowed, you need to capitalize on the time to kill as many of the other enemies as possible. Recommended is the Line Cutter for this task, as it hacks off limbs pretty respectably. Some enemies will die in a single hit, especially if you've upgraded the weapon.
- Run around the corner to the left from the door and freeze the Tyrant, then go marauding. Try to keep an eye on where the big Tyrant necromorph is and get ready to freeze him again. If you see him, hit him or run from him.
- Keep moving! The enemies in this room include spitting yellow necromorphs and fetus monsters, which can and will hit you from a distance. You'll take more punishment staying still and getting wailed on from all directions than you will if you accidentally run into one. Plus the shake off animation is good for some damage to the monster.
- If you move fast enough and stay the hell away from the Tyrant, you'll be able to efficiently reload and restock Stasis. Eventually Kendra will open the door for you and you can make a break for it.
- Once you're through the door, you'll have a second to rest. The door to the right is locked with a Power Node. Use one and you'll get a Stasis pack and medpack, as well as some ammo.
- Back out in the hall. Check it thoroughly for power-ups, as there are a few. This includes credits that are hiding behind a medical bed in the left corner of the hall.
- You'll see an exploding canister as you go. Grab it and make for the end of the hall quickly. Ahead is another of those big tentacly monsters that's mounted to the wall. Kill it quickly with your canister. Otherwise, it spits out a slightly less threatening version of the fetus monsters.
- TIP: Near that mounted monster is a pile of body parts, just to its left. Check behind them for a Gold Semiconductor.
- Hang a right and go down the hall to where a woman is crying (or laughing) over a corpse. Check the area for ammo and credits. Then head back to the door.
- Continue until you hit a save point outside the morgue. Use it, then go through the unlocked door into Dr. Mercer's office.
- Audio Log! At the back of the office and slightly to the left.
- Gather up all the items on the ground here first. There ammo and money, mostly. When you're set, hit the button on the console.
- Quickly leave the office and head back into the large hallway. If you remember, there was an oxygen charger near where you found the crying woman. That's good, because ahead is a swarm of the goopy triangle monsters. Kill them, then go refresh your air supply.
- You'll come to the emergency room next. The big Tyrant is still inside, but now he's backed up by new minions. Good news: He can't cross the threshold of the door to the emergency room, and neither will the other monsters.
- Your strategy is this: Lure the monsters to the doorway and kill all of them. Pick up whatever plunder you can and as your air runs low, run back to the oxygen charger and refill.
- Now run back to the emergency room, which should be clear except for the Tyrant. Freeze him and run to the door to escape.
- Go through the next door. On your way to the security station, you'll be attacked by another fetus monster. Kill it or run past it.
- In the security room, go in the small control room around the corner from where you enter and push the button the console. That restore the atmosphere to the medical deck.
- With that done, save. Visit the store to make sure you have the proper equipment, because another fight with the Tyrant awaits.
- Back to Imaging Diagnostics. Take the hall around the corner and move slowly as you approach the door. Go through and charge your Stasis at the station there. Then head through the next door.
- Pass through the imaging lab and take the door here to Chemical Research. When you reach the lab, hit the button on the console to finish mixing the poison.
- You can't go back the way you came, so take the newly unlocked door. Go right to find some crates that hold ammo. Then backtrack and go left and empty the lockers of loot. Save.
- Enter the Cryogenics Lab. You'll hear from Mercer, who then unleashes the Tyrant on you again. However, this fight is a far cry from the battle in the emergency room.
- Your goal here is to lure the Tyrant into the freezing chamber, in the center of the room. You'll need to hit it with Stasis while it's in there, then run into the control room where you saw Mercer and hit the switch, which is on the window facing into the lab.
- It's actually fairly easy, especially if you understand your goal before you start. As Mercer is talking, quickly gather up all the ammo on the ground and refill your Stasis at the charger at the back of the room. Then stand straight in front of the charger and face Mercer, because that's where the Tyrant appears.
- When it shows up, it'll walk toward you - straight into the freezing chamber. Stasis it and run for the door. You'll have to dodge one or two fetus monsters.
- Hit the button inside and you're done. Objective complete. Monster frozen and taken somewhere else.
- If it doesn't go that easily, just keep freezing the monster and killing the fetus minions. The big plus here is the Stasis charger, which keeps you in great shape. You could realistically use Stasis to freeze everything that comes your way, so long as you can make it to the recharger before they all snap out of it.
- Either way, be aware of the vents in the room, specifically when you go to the control room. If you happen to get there too slowly, or screw up and freeze the Tyrant in the wrong place, he'll use the vent to get to you - on the wall opposite the door. This can be frightening.
- Power Node! It's on the back wall of the Cryogenics control room, in a blue panel.
- Finish the battle and (maybe) kill the monster to meet your objective. Take the door out of the control room and you'll arrive at a tram station. That's the end of this chapter.
