Chapter Three: Course Correction
- YouTube: Mahalo Games: Dead Space - Mission 3
- Disembark from the tram and grab the small medpak out of the foot locker, then go inside the station waiting area to find another locker with ammo. When you're done, start down the hall toward the control room.
- Wander around the control room cleaning out the various lockers. Save and use the store.
- Audio Log! It's in the control blister, where a body is seated in a chair.
- Now head to the door beside the save point marked "Machine Shop."
- Descend the stairs until you can see a body lying on the ground over the railing surrounding a landing just above. Pull out a weapon you wouldn't mind wasting ammo for and blast the body.
- Of course, it wakes up and turns out to be a necromorph. Use your superior position to kill it.
- Continue down and head through the door into the bathroom. Clean the room out, grabbing the schematic ahead to the right and the ammo in the lockers.
- Audio Log! On the floor in the middle of the bathroom.
- Backtrack and continue along the walkway. You should come to a workbench.
- Text Log! Look to the right of the work bench.
- Use the bench if you need it, then head through the door. Take the walkway left, and duck into the alcove here when you see it for a medpack.
- Continue up to the raised area. You'll be attacked. Kill the necromorph and head to the right on the upper area to get the ammo you missed.
- Now come back and follow the walkway left. You'll come to a gondola that requires kinesis to activate. Ignore it for now and keep heading up. You'll soon be attacked again as a necromorph climbs out of the floor.
- When you reach a door, turn around and head back to the round platform with a Kinesis control on it. Activate the control by using Kinesis on it and pulling the switch Down.
- Return to the gondola. Use Kinesis to drag it toward you. Board it and push the switch to go to the other side of the room.
- As you approach the other side, you'll hear lots of creatures announcing your death. Take aim on them as quickly as you can and do whatever damage you can. Try to kill the lesser necromorphs, the ones with skin, before you even arrive.
- Then switch to something more powerful to take on the big burned-looking necromorph, the variety you were introduced to in the morgue.
- Also look for the exploding canisters just to the left of the area where you land. Blasting them can really help you cut down the odds.
- When you finally blast through, heal up and grab everything you can off the ground. Just to the right is a stompable crate, and to the left is a panel with ammo inside.
- Power Node! Just past the panel is an alcove to the right, across from the ramp that leads you onward. Go in there and do a 180 to find a blue Power Node panel. Behind you on the shelf are credits as well.
- Audio Log! Step out of the alcove where you found the node and look left. There should be body parts in the corner. Approach them to find the log.
- Go up the ramp now and you'll see a necromorph hop into an air vent. Ignore it, as you're not about to come under attack (yet). Instead, head for the panel up ahead and open it for some ammo.
- Turn right and you'll find a closet-type area filled with bodies. Push through and grab the Statis charge on the shelf.
- Spin around and head back the way you came. At the next intersection, turn right to find a save point.
- Nab the schematic to the right of the save point, then go to the switch and use Kinesis to move it and accomplish your first objective.
- Turn around with your weapons ready. As you backtrack down the hall, you'll come under attack from three of those creepy fetus things.
- Pick your shots! If you're anything like the author, you're low on ammo and the worst part of the fetus necromorphs is they pull their tentacles in if you withdraw too far. Stay back near the objective and use the corner for cover. Blast the enemies' tentacles when you have a chance but make sure you'll hit them! There's nothing worse than having to take these things on with ill-suited melee attacks or desperate attempts at Kinesis.
- Return to the gondola when the way is clear. Take it back to the other side, where you'll see another monster running around. Follow the path it takes up and to the right.
- You'll soon hit a door leading to the control room. Go through and you'll be outside the control blister, where you found the body. It gets reanimated and now inside the control room are two nasty necromorphs.
- Follow the catwalk to a green crate you can bust open for ammo. Behind you is a door that leads to the control room. If you have the weaponry for it, you can go through here and fight the two monsters. But you don't necessarily have to fight.
- Choice 1: Fight: This door a winning proposition from this position if fighting is your choice. By backing up through the door, you can avoid the monsters - they won't really pursue you through it. As you approach the door, the monsters will backtrack through the hall that you first entered the Control Room from. Stepping through and in draws them out to attack you. Stand in this doorway and kill them.
- Choice 2: Run: If you, like the author, are down to your last few shots and no medpacks, fighting may not be for you. Instead, you can backtrack all the way down through this area to the work bench you found on your way into the fuel station in the beginning. Remember? You shot at a body and it got up and attacked you - that's where you're headed. Return here and you can access the control room from the door you used when you left it. This afford you one nice ability - you won't immediately draw the monsters and you can run straight through the Control Room to the elevator ahead. It's scary and risky, but it gives you a chance to conserve ammo or avoid the fight all together.
- The author ran. Once you've made your way through the Control Room to the elevator, you'll descend to another hallway.
- Check the lockers here for an air can and a medpack.
- Audio Log! The locker closest to the door where you're headed at the end of the hall contains this log.
- The next room consists of a central decontamination room surrounded by an outer hall. The hall is littered lockers and ammo, plus a work bench. Make sure of all these things. Gather up the ammo and reload your guns. Heal up as best you can.
- Head to the door to the central room. Beside it is a fire extinguisher you can grab and bring with you using Kinesis. It's handy, especially if you're low on ammo.
- When you're inside, prepare yourself by looking around the room. Past the consol and on the left side of the room is a vent opening. There's another in roughly the same area on the other side of the room on the right, except this one is in the ceiling. Note these locations, as these are where your enemies will attack you from.
- Hit the console and grab your fire extinguisher. Turn your attention to the left vent cover. In the darkness, a standard necromorph will appear. Hit it with the extinguisher.
- Now blast it as efficiently as you can manage. As soon as it's down, grab the ammo it drops and reload. Get in a good position and look to the right vent cover in the ceiling.
- Another necromorph drops in from here. Kill it and grab the spoils quickly.
- Now look left again. A crawling necromorph appears here. Hit its arms and tail.
- With all three dead, you've weathered the storm. Reload, gather any items and head to the door in front of you, on the other side of the decontamination room.
- Enter the hall here. Grab ammo from the locker at the far end of the room and advance into the around hallway.
- Your guide arrow says right, but take the intersection left first. You'll soon come to a door that seems to be sealed in something that's alive. Grab the credits on the ground.
- Power Node! Grab it from the panel just to the left of the fleshy door.
- Now backtrack and take the intersection the other way. Follow the hall until you find some Pulse Rifle ammo and a gold semiconductor. They'll be near a large, gaping hole in the wall.
- Continue to the door marked Centrifuge Access. Go through. Save and grab the air can off the ground.
- The centrifuge room is Zero-G, so get ready for that as you enter, after a few seconds, crawling necromorphs will attack you from the right.
- TIP: There are several exploding canisters spread around this room. Use them
- Pick a spot on the opposite wall and Zero-G jump. This is a big area and you can fight these guys more or less on your terms. When they're dead, look around and assess your predicament.
- The centrifuge requires two clutches to be attached to it. Those are the big things with spinning axels on the floor. You need to use Kinesis to plug them in, but you have to use Stasis on them first to slow them down.
- To the right of the door where you entered is a Stasis charging station, on the other side of that big gross flesh hump. Jump over there and juice up.
- Drop down and plug in one of the generator clutches. Hit it with Stasis then use Kinesis to push it. You get that one for free.
- The next one is less so. Go to it, but as soon as you hit it with Stasis, jump clear because you're being attacked.
- Kill the crawler and drop back down to the generator. Plug it in and then fight off another attack.
- That powers up the Gyro. Return to the Stasis charger and fill up, then go to the console nearby it.
- Activating the console turns on the gyro, restores the gravity and creates a vacuum. You need to get to the other elevator and leave the room before your air runs out.
- This is difficult, because the path to the left is completely cut off on both floors. Do a 180 and go down the elevator behind you after hitting the console. At the bottom go right when the gyro clears you.
- You don't have much time. Head to the first alcove on the right. Drop in before you get splattered. A necromorph drops in on top of you, however.
- In the interest of time and ammo conservation, hit this enemy with Stasis, then spin around and look for the gyro to clear you, which is should almost immediately. Break for the next alcove.
- Here is an oxygen recharger. Use it.
- When the gyro passes, run to the next safe spot. A necromorph skitters in ahead of you, however.
- Do your best to kill it. You can Stasis it like you did the last one, then move when the way is clear.
- The last alcove has the elevator. Take it up, break right and go through the air lock. Wait for the door to close and oxygen will be restored. Save.
- Go through the airlock. Continue through the hall.
- Blast the big tentacle in that yellow pulsating sack. Hit it with as much firepower as you can. If it drags you to the wall, you lose.
- You've killed it. Stand up and head back into the decontamination area. Go through the center room and into the outer hallway.
- Through the archway to your left is a necromorph. Kill it with whatever you have left.
- Continue on to the elevator. The bad news - if you dodged fighting the necromorphs in the control room before, you still have to now. But at least you should have Stasis this time.
- Fight through these guys and save in the Control Room. Hit the store and stock up on ammo and weaponry.
- Follow your guide arrow to the round door near the control blister. Going through it leads you to an airlock. On the other side, the compartment is exposed to space.
- Head through and collect the various bits of ammo floating around. You should see a green crate as well as some loose ammunition.
- Clear the area and double back through the airlock to refill your oxygen tank. Then go back to the vacuum compartment and Zero G jump to the platform across from you.
- There are two crawling necromorphs in this room, and this platform is where they'll start to attack you. However, in Zero G, they have a hard time really mounting an offensive. You can fight them if you want, or just blow past them. Jump to the piece of flooring that's curved and run up it to the door.
- Go through this airlock into a loud area that's venting some kind of gas. Continue through and you'll come to a catwalk at the top of a vertical room that descends below. If you pay attention, you'll see the shadow of a necromorph below you.
- First go left to the first unlocked door you come to. It's a storage room. Clear out the ammo found here.
- Audio Log! It's on the floor near some loose ammo in the back left corner.
- Now backtrack out. Bypass the lift and go around to the other side of the catwalk, to another room. It's another storage closet. Clean it out.
- Power Node! Inside the blue panel to the right of the door.
- Text Log! Left side of the room, on the floor.
- Head back to the lift. Take it down.
- TIP: The areas where the fleshy stuff covers the ground must be sticky, because you can't run there. Keep that in mind when you're fighting.
- The lift takes you down one level. Check the room to your right for a medpack, then head around to the other room. Those little triangle-shaped things will come after you. Kill them and check the room for supplies.
- Take the lift beside the second room to descend again. Directly left of the lift is another storage room. Go inside for a Stasis capsule and a Stasis recharging station.
- TIP: At the cost of one Power Node, you can unlock the storage room on the other side of the room. It's worth the investment if you need ammo and meds, plus there's another schematic to be found inside.
- Exit and approach the door that's rapidly opening and shutting. Don't hit it with Stasis yet! Instead, just get close and watch the game hand you a freebie.
- Now that the immediate danger has passed, hit the door with Stasis and go through. Look ahead for a ramp. Just in front is an exploding canister. Grab it with Kinesis.
- As you approach the ramp, you'll hear the screeches of necromorphs ahead. Wait until you can hit all the little triangle guys along with the bigger baddie with the canister. It should be a one-hit kill on all.
- Keep going up to find save point. Use it, then turn left to get into the Engine Control area. Inside are three necromorphs, who are currently busy. They won't see you right away.
- Do your best to kill the three necromorphs from a distance. You can probably score some good hits from here with your line gun on their exposed limbs. Finish them from the relative safety of the save room. You can always back up and let the door shut.
- With the three dead, a much bigger and grosser necromorph appears in the distance. Kill it from as far away as you can manage.
- Before you go pressing any buttons, set about looting and clearing the area. To the left is a medpack; to the right, more ammo and some exploding canisters.
- Power Node! Go right from the door and turn left into an enclosed area beneath a catwalk. It's behind a blue panel on the wall.
- TIP: Once you've cleared the room, look around for vents and other entry points. Anyone familiar with video games or horror movies likely recognizes the fact that you're going to be attacked the second you push the button in the center of this room. It might be a good idea to pile all the explosives where they're handy after pressing the button. There are three canisters and a fire extinguisher near where you found the Power Node. You could also backtrack and save your game.
- Go back and hit the button. Enemies will come at you from pretty much everywhere. Kill the ones you can with explosives and remember to use Stasis to help you win the fight. Keep moving also to put distance and objects between you and your enemies.
- TIP: Along with the rule of killing whatever's closest to you, you should seriously consider hitting saving a canister for the necromorph that appears just to the right of the door out of the area. This is a yellow-pants spitting necromorph, and the only one that can attack you from a distance. Kill it first. If you can and you'll have a much easier time evading.
- When everything's dead, spend a second gathering up all the loot and supplies. Then hit the console again the complete the objective.
- Back to the save room. Instead of taking the long way back to the Control Room, you can now use the door just across from the one you came through. It's a much quicker route.
- Once inside the control room, be aware that a necromorph is lying in wait in the hallway to the tram station. Kill it when it comes out.
- Stop by the store in the Control Room if you need to, then hit the tram station to complete the chapter.
