Dead Space Extraction Walkthrough

Dead Space Extraction is a first-person rail shooter and a prequel to the original Dead Space. It brings from the original Dead Space features such as the original enemies and weapons, zero gravity sequences, and Kinesis, the ability to interact with objects from afar. It also introduces new weapons, enemies, and characters, as well as adding to the series' mythology.

Dead Space Extraction Basics:

Controls

  1. Use analog on Nunchuk to change weapons (if you character have more than one).
  2. Use the Wiimote to aim your targeting reticule.
  3. Press B to shoot.
  4. Press Z to reload.
  5. Turn the Wiimote to the side to enter alternate fire mode for your weapon.
  6. Press A to use Kinesis (allows you to grab whichever object you are pointing at).
  7. Press C to use your Stasis Module (if your character has one).
  8. Shake the Wiimote to activate your Glow Worm (if your character has one).
  9. Shake the Nunchuk to perform a melee attack (if your character is capable).
  10. Press - Button to toggle HUD on or off.
  11. Press + Button to access weapon information and the pause menu.

Concepts

  1. Kinesis: You can snag any object on the screen using Kinesis, so long as nothing is blocking you. Kinesis can also allow you to grab heavy objects such as debris, fuel canisters, even enemy projectiles and fling them back at enemies by pressing B.
  2. Weapons:You are allowed to have a maximum of three weapons (the fourth one is always the Rivet Gun). You'll need to collect ammo for your weapons to be able to use them. If you find a new weapon, you can replace any other weapon in your inventory.
  3. Free Look: At certain times, your pointer will have arrows appearing from it, meaning you have entered Free Look mode. During Free Look, you can pan around normally with the Wiimote, usually looking for as many collectibles and items as possible.
  4. Timed Reloads: When you press Z to reload, a meter will appear. If you press Z when the meter reaches the "gray area", the weapon will reload instantly. If you reload too early or soon, you will suffer a reload fail which will make the reloading time even longer. You must master Timed Reloads to avoid getting overwhelmed by the monsters.
  5. Rating: How well you do on the level affects your Rating, which includes how many Collectibles you find, how skilled you were with your weapons, how many deaths, etc. Gaining high Ratings increases your hit point maximum.
  6. Logs: These purple objects are placed about the levels (sometimes hidden) and come in three types: Audio, Video, and Text. Collect them to improve your Collectibles rating.
  7. Weapon Upgrades: These blue objects upgrade a weapon type. Upgrades allow the weapon type to have a higher ammo cap. Weapon Upgrades count as Collectibles although they never appear again after collecting them once (thus eliminating them as future Collectible requirements).
  8. Hacking Mini-game: If you are playing as Nathan or Sam, you will have to perform a Hacking Mini-game from time to time. The goal is to hold down A and guide the Wiimote pointer along the "track" without deviating it or touching any red objects (touching red objects actually causes damage to your health). If you reach the end of the track, you then need to point at the "button" symbol and press A to complete the mini-game.
  9. Jump Points: In zero-gravity areas, you will need to jump to "Jump Points". This is done by aiming the Wiimote at any "Jump Point" and pressing A.
  10. Glow Worm: In dark areas, you must use your Glow Worm to be able to see. Activate it by shaking the Wiimote until it ignites; Glow Worms will eventually deactivate after a while and must be ignited again.
  11. Fuse Boxes: Glowing purple boxes mounted on walls next to locked doors. If you see these and shoot them before your character moves on, it will open a bonus room with ammo and items to collect.
  12. Stasis Module: You can fire these at enemies to slow them down, allowing you to easily deal with them. It's also required to evade certain hazards like spinning fan blades.

Weapons

  1. Rivet Gun: It's your standard weapon and cannot be dropped. It has infinite ammo and does good damage, but a poor rate of fire and ammo cap means you'll often be overwhelmed by hordes of monsters; use it only if you have nothing else or need a ballistic weapon. Alternate fire is a charge shot (hold down B to charge); this is needed in certain mini-games where you must "weld" objects down by firing charge shots at marked targets.
  2. P-Sec Pistol: Not bad for a pistol, but it requires accuracy to use correctly; against the rank-and-file monsters, you'll often run short on ammo unless you hit vitals often. As a ballistic weapon, it's very useful against the weakpoints of bosses. Alternate fire is a three-round burst that's ideal for dealing with faster, smaller targets.
  3. Plasma Cutter: Great weapon that functions something like a shotgun. Aim it at the shoulders of your enemies for quick kills; it's also great for knee-capping enemies. It's drawback is a low ammo cap until it's upgraded, and later on it's outclassed by better firepower. Alternate fire shoots a vertical beam instead of a horizontal one.
  4. Pulse Rifle: Another ballistic weapon, which makes it good generally for boss weakpoints. It's also a great "pray-and-spray" weapon, allowing you to quickly drop targets in a hail of bullets. Like the P-Sec Pistol, however, it will run out of ammo very fast, even faster, unless you aim well. Alternate fire is a shotgun blast that requires a charge up; it's usually better to save your ammo instead with careful shooting.
  5. Flamethrower: One of the best weapons in the game. It can handle any crowd or monster rushes thrown at you as they cannot attack while being set ablaze. Burning monsters suffer lasting damage as the fires burn, and it can also make short work of tough monsters like Pregnants and their Swarms. It's even great for sweeping away incoming projectiles and is handy on certain phases during the boss fights. Keep this one around at all times. Alternate fire is a single slow-moving fireball that is decent for damaging bosses with.
  6. Line Gun: Another excellent weapon. The primary fire works like a souped-up Plasma Cutter shot; it is often a one-hit kill if you hit an enemy in the shoulders and it can even down multiple foes at once. Alternate fire throws a mine that detonates in a huge explosion; early in the game, this will be your best crowd control weapon.
  7. Arc Welding Gun: It works somewhat like an electrical equivalent to the Flamethrower. While its range is limitless, the damage is not impressive considering the fast ammo depletion, and reloads are slow even during a Timed Reload. It also cannot break open some objects such as air vents. Against bosses, it's actually fairly powerful, but otherwise, not a keeper. Alternate fire shoots an "electric ball" that does some potent damage if they enemies are very close to where it impacts.
  8. Force Gun: This one shoots a vicious blast that will decimate groups of baddies at once at close range. The only drawback is that enemies need to be close to take the big damage; at medium-to-long range it suffers a bit (though it still can do the job), while at long range it's no good. It's also useless against boss weakpoints that require some kind of ballistic/ranged attack, but otherwise a total beast against the rank-and-file. Alternate fire shoots a grenade that explodes on impact and is really useful against mobs and some boss phases.
  9. Contact Beam: While it does require a charge per use, each shot is a guaranteed one-hit kill, even against Pregnants still holding Swarms. As a result, it's excellent for picking off enemies as they approach, and also great for sniping annoying enemies flinging projectiles from behind groups or hard-to-reach perches. It's also good generally against bosses. Alternate fire creates a VERY short range explosion that will decimate anything up close.
  10. Ripper: Holding down B turns the pointer into a "buzzsaw", allowing you to chainsaw enemies. The buzzsaw will eventually launch if B is held down long enough, or released beforehand. Fun to use, and can hold down crowds, but ultimately cumbersome and inefficient compared to the better weapons. Alternate fire simply shoots the buzzsaw like a regular projectile; it does a lot of damage, but since Ripper ammo is often tight, it's not a good idea to rely on it.

Chapter 1

Extraction Site

  1. Shoot the green objects as your character (Sam Caldwell) walks over to the cart trolley.
  2. When prompted, shoot the four blue markers with the rivet gun.
  3. Next, you will need to shoot the two blue markers on the trolley. Turn the Wiimote to the side to enter Alt Fire mode and charge up a big blast, hitting each marker with a fully charged shot.
  4. When prompted, pull the trolley over next to the console to secure it using the A button.
  5. When prompted, press A while aiming at the console to use it.
  6. Sam will retreat to the end of the track. When he faces the door, press A to open it.

Facility

  1. Use the console inside, then open the door out.
  2. "Free Look" mode will be activated after entering. Turn the Wiimote to the left to grab a Glow Worm, then shake the Wiimote to light it.
  3. Grab the plasma cutter items Sam passes, making sure to shoot the boxes.
  4. Text Log #1: When Sam turns right over the catwalk, quickly grab the purple log in the distance.
  5. Use the console in the next room, then open the door.
  6. In the next room, you'll be attacked by your first enemy, a Possessed. Try to hit him with a headshot.
  7. Collect the possessed miner's Rock Saw; now you can perform melee attacks by swinging the Wii Nunchuk.
  8. Sam will make his way to the other side of the room; shoot at all the Possessed attacking you; don't forget to shoot open the canisters to collect Plasma Cutter ammo.

Interior

  1. Open the door to the next area. As Sam travels down the catwalk, make sure to open the lockers with the A button for supplies.
  2. Text Log #2: Open the second locker you come across to grab this.
  3. The group will open a door at the bottom and continue out.
  4. At the crosswalk, Sam and Egan will go left. Grab the Plasma Cutter on the way.
  5. Have the Plasma Cutter ready to kill off a group of Possessed. Get ready to kill Egan as well when he becomes possessed. If a Possessed manages to grab you, shake the Wiimote to bring up a quick time event, then win the event to break free.
  6. Sam will escape out a door into another room with live wires flailing in a corner. Headshot the Possessed.
  7. Weapon Upgrade #1: Grab the upgrade by the live wires.
  8. Sam will walk over to a corpse. Grab the Stasis Module.
  9. When Sam walks over to the live wires, aim at them and press and hold C to slow down the live wire's movement speed using the Stasis Module. When they drift out of the way, Sam will walk over to a console to begin a Hacking Mini-game.
  10. To win the mini-game, just trace the Wiimote pointer over the paths to the goal, then point the Wiimote at the green "power button" and press A. Later versions of this mini-game will have red objects on the field that you must not touch with the Wiimote pointer or you will take damage. After winning this mini-game, Sam will head to another console to be activated.
  11. Sam will go back out and follow the other end of the catwalk to another intersection. Kill all the foes in your way to the exit door. Don't forget to use the Stasis Module if you have to.
  12. Text Log #3: Sam will hear a whisper: "You're going the wrong way!", then wheel around and face the exit. The log will be almost on the left-hand edge of your screen, to the left of the big crate pile. It's hard to spot and must be grabbed before Sam flees to the exit.
  13. Weapon Upgrade #2: As Sam flees towards the exit, make sure to grab the upgrade ahead by the exit door.

Oxygen Generator

  1. Free Look for some ammo, then aim at the Jump Point and press A; Sam will jump upwards to a platform. Beat the Hacking Mini-game here.
  2. Audio Log #1: After beating the Hacking Mini-game, Sam turns left and looks upward at the exit door and the Jump Point he must jump to high above. Grab the Audio Log to the left of the door before jumping to the exit. You can also snag this during the previous Free Look.
  3. Aim the Wiimote at the platform (it will turn blue) and press A to leap to it. Exit the door nearby it.
  4. After Sam exits the chamber, he'll be under attack from a horde of Possessed. Keep headshotting them and don't forget to use the Stasis Module to slow down any of them starting to close in. The level will eventually end when you get them all.

Chapter 2

Command Control

  1. You are now playing as Nathan McNeill. After the lengthy dialogue, Nathan will follow his crew out of command control, past a row of lockers. Note that all "openable" lockers here have a purplish light on them; open them to get P-Sec ammo.
  2. Text Log #1: It's in the openable locker furthest to the left along the locker row. You have barely a chance to hit it before Nathan heads over to the exit door.
  3. Nathan will walk down the next hall to an elevator. Grab some ammo to the left as you continue to the elevator into the next room.
  4. In the next room, there will be loads of P-Sec ammo. You'll need it as there will be hordes of Possessed here. They can survive a couple headshots with the P-Sec, but it is still a good weapon to spam against them.

Clinic

  1. Grab all the goodies you can before Nathan enters a waiting room.
  2. After the cutscene, kill the madman, then the two hostages-turned-Possessed after your friends leave.
  3. Text Log #2: After killing the hostages, Nathan will curse and turn to the right. It will be right on the floor in plain sight.
  4. After the weird cutscene, exit through the door Nathan's allies left through.
  5. Right off the bat in the next hall, you're attacked by two Possessed. Kill them.
  6. Weapon Upgrade #1: It's in this hall. You'll have plenty of chances to get it, but the earliest is before killing the first two Possessed.
  7. Grab all the ammo and supplies you can as Nathan goes from door to door, killing the Possessed as they charge out. He'll eventually reach the exit on the other side of the hall.
  8. Text Log #3: Immediately after opening this exit door to the next room, grab it right on the floor, right in front of you, before Nathan enters the room.
  9. There will be a massive amount of Possessed in here, usually double-teaming you. Spam the P-Sec pistol if things get hectic as if they close in they will take up most of the screen, blocking your aim. When the action finally dies down, Nathan will escape.
  10. Outside the clinic, Nathan will run through the crowd of Possessed and encounter Gabe. Shoot the rookie when he gets possessed; your group will then flee into the P-Sec Headquarters.

P-Sec Headquarters

  1. Nathan will grab a grate off the wall and slam it on the entrance door. Switch to the Rivet Gun and fire charged shots at each of the six blue markers on the grate to seal the door. If you fail to do this in time, you'll be killed and must retry.
  2. Weapon Upgrade #2: You can see it briefly as Nathan turns towards Gabe before grabbing the grate. Although it's possible to get it later, it's best to get it then as if you miss, just fail the welding grate mini-game so you die and can try again for it.
  3. Nathan will eventually enter an elevator; ride it up.
  4. In the next room, you'll have to battle your first Slasher. You'll definitely want to shoot off their pincher-like arms as that does a lot of damage and makes them less dangerous. Shooting their bodies is mostly futile, and blowing off their heads will likely make them swing around in a frenzy, so watch it.
  5. Afterward, you're back in the command control. There's plenty of Slashers in here; shoot them up.
  6. After the lengthy dialogue, Nathan will head back out and ride an an elevator outside downward. You will get to use Free Look again; quickly turn left to shoot a purple Fuse Box, opening up an armory. Nathan will enter it and grab a Pulse Rifle.
  7. Nathan and his group will return to the P-Sec lobby. Shoot off each of the six weld spots on the grate you welded earlier to head outside.
  8. Outside, you'll take on a couple of Infectors as well as Slashers. The Infectors can fly around and infect dead corpses to make Super Slashers, so target them first if possible.
  9. Nathan's group continues to a wreckage that his allies try to move while he fights off a massive group of Slashers. Keep trying to hit their limbs, using Timed Reloads to reload quickly. If you are desperate, switch to another weapon asap.

Mission Square

  1. As the group heads to Mission Square, the space shuttles outside will be destroyed. Nathan will then run into the square.
  2. Weapon Upgrade #3: It's going to be on the left on the ground after the space shuttle destruction sequence, as Nathan enters the square. I believe you can get it again as Nathan fights off the horde attacking at the lift.
  3. After the lengthy dialogue, grab the debris on the lift with the A button and fling them off with the B button. Doing so will cause a squad of Slashers and new enemies, "Leapers", to attack. The Leapers are faster and more deadly, so shoot them first.
  4. Now you must finish a Hacking Mini-game...while under constant barrage from Leapers and Slashers. They will mostly come single-file, so distract them with a burst of Pulse Rifle fire, then work on the mini-game until it is complete.

Chapter 3

Megavents

  1. After the lift ride down, you'll be under attack from Slashers; kill them.
  2. You'll next need to weld a series of objects together with charged Rivet Gun shots, just like at the P-Sec Headquarters. Afterward, Nathan and his group will continue onto a walkway.
  3. Weapon Upgrade #1: It will be on your left behind a pillar next to some fleshy growth right after finishing the welding mini-game.
  4. Text Log #1: As Nathan passes over where Weapon Upgrade #1 was, you'll be able to snatch this in the distance, although you'll be traveling over to it anyway.
  5. Nathan will stop to Free Look; try to grab as much ammo as you can around the crates.
  6. Next, use melee attacks to slash through the "Corruption" (the fleshy growth) as Nathan and co. progress.
  7. After reaching the carnage on the otherside, fight off the Slashers as Nathan and co. continue across the next catwalk.
  8. Eventually you reach another platform with crates to open containing ammo, and two routes to choose: Left or Right. Go left first.

Storage Closet

  1. You'll be going here if you went left. Cut through the Corruption growth to the other side.
  2. Kill the Slashers, then beat the Hacking Mini-game. This opens a storage closet filled with goodies.
  3. Text Log #2: Inside the storage closet.
  4. Nathan will return and automatically take the other route.

Walkways

  1. You will eventually have to take this route, whether or not you selected it first. Hack through the growth, then kill the enemies when they appear.
  2. Nathan will continue to step through the growth on the ground across the walkway. Collect all the ammo and a Pulse Rifle on the ground.
  3. A tentacle will grab Lexine. Shoot the thick, round growth on it to get it to drop her.
  4. The miner you've been escorting will get snatched by the tentacle and try to take Lexine with her. Shoot the miner quickly so he dies and lets go.
  5. Continue on and grab all the ammo you can when Nathan "Free Looks" at the platform ahead.
  6. Weapon Upgrade #2: It's on the platform where Nathan uses Free Look. If you've reached the debris you use Kinesis to move, you've missed it.
  7. Use Kinesis to shove aside the debris, then continue.
  8. The next walkway will have tons of baddies, including Female Slashers that spit acid blobs from a far-off walkway. Get the P-Sec Pistol out and headshot the Female Slashers, also shooting the blobs if they manage to fling one, or use Kinesis to send them back. The Pulse Rifle/Rivet Gun should handle the other monsters.

Access Tunnels

  1. Nathan will go forward after a lengthy cutscene. Cut through the growth.
  2. Open the crates for ammo and be sure to grab the Flamethrower on the shelving.
  3. The group will then enter an access tunnel after you complete a Hacking Mini-game. Cut through another set of growth when you have to.
  4. Audio Log #1: It's to the right in the T-junction after cutting through the growth in the tunnels; you'll want to grab it before Nathan makes a left.
  5. After cutting through some more growth, Nathan will hit another fork in the road. Neither route has anything special and both meet up again very soon. If you go right, you'll need to use Kinesis to drag a loose panel onto a hole to get past it.
  6. Cut through the growth and Nathan will head down a hole.
  7. There will be Leapers everywhere. Keep shooting/flamethrowing them and make sure to grab the goodies in each of the alcoves that Nathan walks past (he'll turn toward each of them briefly).
  8. At the end of the tunnel, Nathan will enter the next one, turn left, then right and encounter a Leaper in his face. Watch out for it and cook it with the flamethrower.
  9. Weapon Upgrade #4: You have the briefest chance to grab this in a dead-end when Nathan turns left after entering the next tunnel, before turning right to face the Leaper that jumps in his face.
  10. Afterward, Nathan and co. will flee out of the tunnel into a storage room. Open the crate for ammo.
  11. Text log #3: Lexine will eventually comment "We made it!" after entering the storage room, immediately after which Nathan turns left to face a shelving unit holding the log and some ammo; if you miss it, you'll likely not be able to grab it again.
  12. The group will enter a shuttle bay. Fight off the last of the Slashers and Leapers and the group will eventually board a shuttle after you survive a Hacking Mini-game/Slasher attack combo.

Chapter 4

Space Shuttle

  1. You'll be partaking in two "turret" sequences. The first of which sees you shooting up asteroids. Only the orange ones can hurt you, so shoot them, and remember that they will split into chunks when shot.
  2. Next, you'll be shooting at cannon fire from a space station. Just target the white balls coming at you in groups of four.
  3. Afterward, Nathan will exit the shuttle in a space suit. Grab the ammo you can find before he leaves.
  4. You must jump from Jump Pad to Jump Pad across outer space to the exit door. Space debris will be floating around; get rid of them on sight by grabbing them with Kinesis, then quickly flinging them away. Destroyed debris will often drop health.
  5. At the exit door, complete the Hacking Mini-game, then when Lexine is knocked away by debris, save her with Kinesis.

Crew Deck

  1. Audio Log #1: As soon as Nathan enters the crew deck and makes a left, you'll see it by a couch.
  2. Nathan and co. will enter a vast area. Be sure to break all the Green Containers and open the crates for valuable ammo.
  3. The group will enter a communications room. Again, snag all the ammo lying around one in the locker. Kill the Slasher when he appears.
  4. You must now open the nearby closet. Grab the goodies inside and meet a new ally.
  5. Weapon Upgrade #1: On the floor on the left in the closet.
  6. The group will go back out and be attacked by Slashers of various types. Kill them.
  7. The group will head into the next area, where you must do a Hacking Mini-game to defuse a trip wire.
  8. Next, Nathan will enter a storage room and Free Look; collect the goodies including a Pulse Rifle.
  9. Nathan will investigate a stuck blast door, then retreat with the group into the next room ahead.
  10. Weapon Upgrade #2: It will be right within view when you enter the next room, to the left.
  11. A Slasher will come to life inside and attack. Waste him; Nathan will run ahead and turn the corner around the central seats.
  12. Text Log #1: Eckhart will comment "What is happening here?" as Nathan makes a left. You'll see a corpse in the distance; collect the Text Log it holds.
  13. A big Slasher brawl will break out. Pound them with the Pulse Rifle/Flamethrower. There are suitcases you can grab with Kinesis and fling into your foes; this is especially useful against the Leapers that sometimes crawl on the ceiling as it often one-hit kills them. After winning this fight, the group will exit into a reception room.
  14. Inside the reception, collect the goodies with Free Look, after which Nathan will go left and work his way counterclockwise around the room.
  15. Video Log #1: After Free Looking, Nathan goes left and then peers around a small niche with some seats. Grab the Video Log on your left when he does.
  16. After some exploration, Nathan will choose between two routes. Don't go right yet as you can grab more items going to the left.

Lounge

  1. If you went left, you'll be going here. Nathan will ride up a lift overlooking the reception. Slashers and Leapers will attack, then he'll enter the next room. Grab all the ammo you can above and below.
  2. In the next room, Nathan can grab the Line Gun right in front of him (if you have to replace a weapon with ammo, it's suggestible to dump the P-Sec Pistol if you haven't already).
  3. Nathan will then enter another room and use Free Look. Turn right to grab some ammo.
  4. Weapon Upgrade #3: It's on the floor in the center of the room right in plain sight. However, you can't grab it until Nathan goes around the glass wall blocking his way.
  5. The room will go dark eventually, so try to keep things well lit with the Glow Worm while you shoot up the enemies. If things get desperate, use the Flamethrower which makes a great weapon as well as torchlight.
  6. Nathan will eventually flee back into the room he came from.
  7. Text Log #2: It will be right in plain sight to the left of the door across from you. You couldn't get it before due to the camera angle when you first entered, but now you can.
  8. Nathan will continue to head back to the lift and rendezvous with the group, and now take the right route.

Mess Hall

  1. You'll have to eventually take this path, whether or not you went to the Lounge first. All will be quiet until you reach the elevator; you'll need to once again shoot off enemies while playing a Hacking Mini-game. Use the Flamethrower to distract them while you work.
  2. After the elevator ride up, Nathan will look around. Collect some ammo.
  3. Nathan will then turn towards a closet with a Fuse Box. Quickly shoot the Fuse Box before it's too late; it will unlock the closet door and allow access to some goodies using Free Look.
  4. Weapon Upgrade #4: On the storage shelves in the closet.
  5. Text Log #3: On the closet floor. You'll need to Free Look down towards it.
  6. After the closet, Nathan will head down the darkened hall and fight off more Slashers and Leapers. Don't forget your Glow Worm and Flamethrower.
  7. Nathan and co. will head into the kitchen; grab as much ammo as you can see during the Free Look. You can also grab a P-Sec Pistol if you are running low on your current main firearm.
  8. Nathan will battle his way around the mess hall, eventually jumping below. Take out all the monsters. Try to grab as much ammo as you can as you battle, and save your Flamethrower/Line Gun ammo unless you are desperate.

Chapter 5

Quarantine

  1. Nathan will exit the quarantine through a nearby duct. Grab all the ammo you can find.
  2. As you crawl through the duct, you'll periodically come under attack from small creatures called "Swarms"; shake them off with the Wiimote.
  3. Audio Log #1: While crawling in the ducts, Nathan will eventually turn suddenly to face down a single Swarm right in front of him, sitting on the Audio Log.
  4. After a long crawl, Nathan will tumble out of the vent, be hit with a brief moment of weirdness, then be granted Free Look. Grab the Line Gun during Free Look if you like.
  5. Weapon Upgrade #1: During Free Look, make sure to snag the upgrade semi-hidden in the ceiling, behind a grate.
  6. After Free Looking, Nathan will enter a zero-gravity chamber. You have unlimited Free Look time to find any number of Jump Points. Ultimately you want to jump to an area that sees you fighting off Infectors, from where you can jump to the exit.
  7. After exiting the chamber, Nathan will be able to briefly Free Look again in the next room, then exit to another.
  8. Weapon Upgrade #2: During Free Look, make sure to grab it to your right, though it's possible to grab it before Free Look starts.

Radiology

  1. Nathan will enter a new area after which the ship's hull will be breached, nearly sucking him into outer space. Afterward, he'll go to the hull breach and survey the damage.
  2. Weapon Upgrade #3: When Nathan surveys the hull breach, look for it outside in space to your right.
  3. Next, Nathan will walk down two small locker rooms looking for a console to perform a Hacking Mini-game on, then Free Look around afterward.
  4. Text Log #1: It will be in plain sight in the second locker room on a shelf. Try to grab it before Free Look.
  5. Nathan will exit, observing a dead body (there's a Flamethrower underneath it), then escape into a pipe in the ceiling after killing two Leapers.

Morgue

  1. The pipe splits into two routes; take the left route. Both routes quickly reconvene and have similar enemies, but only the left has a Text Log.
  2. Text Log #2: You should immediately see the text log on the floor when going left.
  3. Use the Flamethrower to shoo away baddies until Nathan drops into a morgue.
  4. Inside the morgue, kill all the Slashers and Infectors.
  5. Weapon Upgrade #4: It's on your far left when Nathan first drops into the morgue. Try to avoid killing the Slashers on the left until you get it first.
  6. Nathan will then be under attack from Infectors, Leapers and Slashers. Use the Flamethrower or the Line Gun's mine shot.
  7. After a bit, Free Look will activate. If you haven't already, you can open the cold chambers that have an orange glow on them for ammo.
  8. The rest of Nathan's group will eventually arrive after some hallucinations (watch out for the Infector). Follow them into the ER.

ER

  1. Weapon Upgrade #5: It will be on your left inside the ER itself, right after leaving the elevator.
  2. A big battle with Slashers and Female Slashers will break out from all angles. Make sure to headshot the Females before they can spit acid, or use Kinesis on their acid to kill other Slashers. Try to grab the various ammo and health as well.
  3. The group will escape into another room. Make sure to blow up the Fuse Box as Nathan nears it to raid a supply closet. There's an Arc Welding Gun inside among other ammo.
  4. Nathan will explore ahead and run afoul of a "Pregnant". When damaged, these fat Slashers will burst open to let loose a flood of Swarms (easily handled with the Flamethrower).
  5. After killing the first one, more of them, along with an army of normal Slashers, will siege the room. Don't be afraid to drop a few mines with the Line Gun to thin them all out.
  6. Nathan and co. will eventually retreat back into the ER, then further back into a security station. You must win the welding mini-game here VERY quickly or Nathan will get devoured by a "Drag Tentacle".
  7. Afterward, Nathan and co. will exit into a hallway (you can grab a Plasma Cutter here; it will be useful in the next level), then enter a tram station.
  8. Text Log #3: As soon as Nathan enters the tram station, he'll turn left, and you have a brief moment to grab it off the waiting seats. If you don't snag it then, you'll have likely lost it.
  9. The group will enter the tram tunnel, and be under attack from Slashers and "Exploders". Exploders carry a highly-explosive yellow pustule on their left arms; you must kill them before they get close and detonate them. You can either simply shoot the pustule to blow them up (along with others near them) or kill them normally; killing them normally lets you grab the pustule with Kinesis and hurl it. After winning this battle, the level ends.

Chapter 6

Sewer Line

  1. As the group follows the sewage flow, there will be a few enemy encounters, including "Leechers", tentacle-like creatures that try to grab Nathan and gnaw on him. Shoot any Leechers you see in their heads (one hit with the Plasma Cutter does the trick).
  2. Text Log #1: After killing the first Leecher, the group goes down the tunnel. Lexine gasps at a falling object, and then Nathan turns towards a locked door up on a platform. Shoot the air vent above the lock door and grab the Text Log before he moves on.
  3. The path eventually forks, though both routes will take you to the center area for a big brawl. If you went left, there will be Leechers, Exploders, and Slashers, while right has you fighting more Super Slashers. There's plenty of Green Canisters to open here; it'll be helpful to hurl them into baddies using Kinesis for quick kills.
  4. Both paths will end up in a sewer tunnel with loads of Exploders and Slashers charging ahead while "Lurkers" (baby-like creatures with tentacles) are flinging projectiles at you from the above catwalks. Try to grab those projectiles and hurl them back, or even into crowds.
  5. Nathan can grab an Arc Wielding Gun after the fight; do so if you are low on your primary weapon.

Water Treatment

  1. After the cutscene of the worker getting killed, wipe out the Super Slashers and the Infectors. Super Slashers can take a lot of ammo before they go down, so try one-hit killing them with a Line Gun blast to the shoulders. Nathan will Free Look afterward, allowing you to blast open Green Canisters for supplies.
  2. Lexine will fall into the water and be swept away, and the group must find her. Watch out for enemies as you progress. After killing the first group, you can grab a P-Sec Pistol on the platform above and to your left, where a Lurker was attacking.
  3. Weapon Upgrade #1: After the catwalk with the P-Sec Pistol are two platforms to your right with two locked doors (a lone Leecher attacks right before it). Shoot the air vent above, before the group goes left into the dead-end.
  4. Weapon Upgrade #2: Yet another Weapon Upgrade hidden in an air vent, almost right after getting Weapon Upgrade #1; this time it's in an air vent above the platform with the propped-up headless corpse that startles Eckhardt.
  5. The path continues into a dead end, then back towards a catwalk the group must climb. There will be two groups of Super Slashers and Leechers, as well as Female Slashers and Lurkers on catwalks. Headshot these Females for an instant kill and remember to hurl away incoming projectiles with Kinesis.
  6. After killing the second group of enemies, Nathan and co. will enter a new area. You can grab a Force Gun when Nathan turns right after entering.
  7. The room is flooded with gas; you must quickly win a Hacking Mini-game before the gas takes effect. Afterward, Nathan and co. will drop down.
  8. Audio Log #1: You can see the Audio Log underneath the catwalk mesh after winning the Hacking Mini-game; you'll be able to grab it after Nathan drops down into the water and turns to face it.
  9. Afterward, Nathan and co. continue. A Lurker will appear and, despite it actually being an illusion, you must kill it quickly anyway before it can pile on damage.
  10. Weapon Upgrade #3: It's in the air vent above the illusory Lurker. It doesn't seem like you can grab it until after the illusion is dispelled, so you'll need to move quickly after doing so.
  11. Keep going and you'll hit a fork. Doesn't matter which way you go either as the left path is a dead-end anyway, and the group will eventually go route.
  12. Weapon Upgrade #4: As usual, shoot the air vent above the elevated platform, in this case, the one before the platform holding the Contact Beam.
  13. As the group travels along the right-hand route, Nathan will eventually spot a Contact Beam after cutting through some growth; you can replace the Line Gun with this if you like although the other will be useful against the incoming boss.
  14. Ahead is another Lurker/Slasher ambush. As always, use the Lurker projectiles against the enemies.
  15. Text Log #2: Grab the Text Log on the console behind this Lurker.
  16. Text Log #3: Past the platform with Text Log #2 is another platform with a load of Green Containers. As always, shoot the air vent above it.

Slug Nest

  1. Further ahead you will reach a vast room, with a new character above you, Karen. She will flee when a boss creature attacks, called "The Slug".
  2. For the first phase, the key is to shoot the yellow weakpoints on the tentacles when they appear with a ballistic weapon such as the P-Spec Pistol or Pulse Rifle. A few other weapons like the Plasma Cutter and Arc Welding Gun will also work, and if you don't have any that do, you'll probably need to use the Rivet Gun, which can be a bit of a pain. Shoot the weakpoints enough and Nathan will run over to one of the two fans in the room.
  3. Keep shooting the weakpoints until Nathan can Free Look; turn towards the spinning fan blades and use the Stasis Module on it to slow them down. Nathan should slip past the slowed fan if you are fast enough, which causes a tentacle to get chopped up when it tries to pursue him. He'll then return to the starting point; you'll need to repeat the above steps again, more times if Nathan fails to slip past a fan quick enough before returning to the starting point.
  4. Weapon Upgrade #5: It's on the catwalk where the right-hand fan is. Grab it during the Free Look before dealing with the fan.
  5. Next, fuel drums will appear in the water. Nathan must grab them with Kinesis and hurl them at the last two tentacles. If you aren't quick enough, they will try to drag Nathan into The Slug's maw. If that happens, cook its maw when you are in range with the Flamethrower for an easy escape; a few other guns such as the Plasma Cutter and Line Gun also work.
  6. Finally, The Slug will hurl acid blobs while you must shoot the yellow pustule that wiggles back and forth. If you have the Arc Welding Gun, it will be a ridiculously easy win as this weakpoint is EXTREMELY weak to its primary fire mode. Otherwise, hurl the acid blobs back while you spam area effect attacks like the Line Gun's mines or the Flamethrower's fireball. Later on, it will spam the acid blobs quite a bit, but the Flamethrower will help you ward them off while you grab one safely.

Chapter 7

Hydroponics Lab

  1. You're now playing as Karen, who wields the Ripper. Just hold down the fire button and paint the Ripper's blades over your victims like a chainsaw. You'll want to kill all the Slashers and Leapers you find. Open the lockers with the blue lights for supplies.
  2. Text Log #1: It's in the center of the "blue light" lockers. You get one, good, final chance of opening that locker right after Karen dispatches of all the enemies.
  3. Karen will enter the next room, filled with Necrogrowth. Take out all the enemies and use Kinesis to throw the explosive canister at them if you want.
  4. Weapon Upgrade #1: Keep your pointer to the left. Karen will turn towards it after killing this first group, then hearing a strange voice. Grab it asap, before the next wave starts as you might not get another chance.
  5. The next wave has a mob of monsters including an annoying Lurker throwing projectiles from the back. If one appears, try to Stasis the enemies in front then quickly throw the Lurker's projectiles back with Kinesis. If an Exploder appears, Stasis him as well so you can dismantle him with the Ripper safely.
  6. After killing this group, Karen will flee to a new hall, then an elevator, then another hall, experiencing all sorts of hallucinations. Don't bother shooting the "monsters" that appear as they are not real. Make sure to grab the Pulse Rifle.

Cooling Systems

  1. Weapon Upgrade #2: When Karen enters the room with Lexine, she will exclaim "My God!" and turn right. The upgrade is dead ahead. If you miss it, you'll have more chances to grab it again.
  2. Lexine will be in the large area ahead. She'll be escorted to a nearby clinic where Karen aids her. In the clinic, grab the goodies on the shelf before she treats Lexine, then when she turns toward the two lockers, raid them quickly for ammo and a Contact Beam.
  3. The pair will return to the area where Lexine was found. A "Brute" will attack; it's invulnerable from the front, so hit it with Stasis when it gets close and pound its vulnerable backside with the Rivet Gun, or use the Pulse Rifle/Ripper's alternate fire to speed things up. If it throws acid, grab it and throw it back.
  4. Once the Brute takes enough damage to its back, it will rear up after getting hit. Quickly shoot the fleshy part of it's shoulder to de-limb one of its arms. It will now crawl around, spitting acid; throw it back to eventually put it out of its misery.
  5. With the Brute dead, the pair will flee to the Grow Rooms.

Grow Rooms

  1. The pair will enter and immediately use Free Look. There are LOADS of items to collect in here, including two Weapon Upgrades, ammo, a Line Gun to the furthest left, and in the lockers to the furthest right a Text Log and Arc Welding Gun. Of these items, you have a few chances to get them all.
  2. Weapon Upgrade #3: Right on the floor in front of you where Karen enters.
  3. Weapon Upgrade #4: Pan up from Weapon Upgrade #3 and get this one on the ceiling.
  4. Text Log #2: Turn right as far as you can until you spot a pair of openable lockers. The leftmost one has the log, the other an Arc Welding Gun.
  5. After getting the goodies, a mob of foes will attack, including Pregnants, Leapers, and Infectors. The Ripper will work great here; you can also grab the nearby canisters to blow up your foes.
  6. This first wave will bring on about six or seven more waves, appearing as Karen moves around the room. Spam some Line Gun mines or similar weaponry if you can. The Pulse Rifle will bring down the Leapers quickly if you aim well. If you see a canister, grab it and fling it at the nearest enemy asap.
  7. Eventually Karen and Lexine will flee into a hall and race down it towards a lift.
  8. Audio Log #1: Really tough to get. Karen will enter the hall, turn back, and then head towards the lift while Lexine sprints past her view. You must snatch the Audio Log next to the pillar of corruption growth as Karen turns while Lexine is sprinting.
  9. After riding down the lift, another mob of Leapers will attack, after which Karen will Free Look and walk at the same time to the exit; to the left are three small alcoves that contain ammo. The level ends after a lengthy cutscene past the exit.
  10. Weapon Upgrade #5: During the walk-and-Free Look segment, look to the right between the two big yellow vats, on the ground.
  11. Text Log #3: During the walk-and-Free Look segment, look to the left inside the last alcove, right before exiting to the final cutscene.

Chapter 8

Tram Station

  1. You play as Gabe for this level. Eckhardt will arrive and the group will leave.
  2. Weapon Upgrade #1: You can grab this right at the start once Gabe first turns his head towards Nathan.
  3. Slashers will attack the group as they make their way to a tram. Watch out for the Exploder and if he appears, Stasis him and gun him down.
  4. After the tram ride, Gabe and Eckhardt will disembark on the next station and enter a new hall.
  5. Text Log #1: Right before Gabe enters the new hall, he quickly spins around towards Eckhardt before walking to the door. High above and a bit to the left of Eckhardt's head is the Text Log; blink and you miss it.
  6. Text Log #2: Almost right after Gabe and Eckhardt enter the next hall, Eckhardt comments on the growth on the ceiling, after which Gabe rounds the corner; the log will be in plain sight.
  7. Gabe will peer at the various open closets as he explores the hall. You can grab weapons out of them, including a Force Gun, Arc Welding Gun, and a Flamethrower (it's suggestible to keep the Force Gun and Flamethrower).
  8. A few Slashers and Leapers will attack as the pair makes their way down the hall into Live Flight Operations.

Maintenance Bay 47

  1. Gabe will turn right and spot a Ripper; collect it if you like.
  2. Audio Log #1: Gabe will gloat that there is a space shuttle present and turn left. You'll spot the Audio Log by a pillar.
  3. Weapon Upgrade #2: After the Audio Log, Gabe will walk to the controls. He'll turn right towards the shuttle and you'll have a split second to grab it inside the open shuttle door. It's possible to get it later if you miss it.
  4. Gabe approaches the control center, but the soldier inside refuses to open the door. Monsters will then attack from the right.
  5. Weapon Upgrade #3: You'll see it once Gabe first spots this wave of monsters (Eckhardt will scream "Look out!"). It will be to the right, directly in front of the shuttle. Grab it before Gabe backs up too far.
  6. After shooting a mess of Slashers and Leapers, the soldier in the control center will be destroyed by an Exploder. Gabe orders Eckhardt to stand watch while he goes down to the manual controls.
  7. After Gabe rides down the lift, activate the zero-gravity controls. Gabe will look about once he gets off the lift, then continue.
  8. Weapon Upgrade #4: As Gabe looks about after activating zero-gravity, you'll see it in the upper-left area of your screen. Try to snag it before Gabe gets moving again.
  9. Gabe will walk over to the first control box. Use Kinesis to drag the blue plate upward until it locks, then shoot the Fuse Box.
  10. Two Leapers will attack after blasting the Fuse Box. Kill them; Gabe will comment "One down!" before jumping upward, allowing you to grab a Line Gun above if you like.
  11. Take out the next control box as before, and watch out for a Leaper and Lurker.
  12. Take out the last two control boxes as before. The last one will have two Lurkers to deal with. Gabe will then return to Eckhardt.
  13. After the lengthy sequence, grab your weapon off the ground and shoot the incoming Leaper to end the level.

Chapter 9

Rendezvous

  1. You are playing as Nathan again. After the tram ride, Nathan and Lexine will enter the next hall, similar to the one Gabe and Eckhardt went down.
  2. Throughout this dark hall, you will be under constant assault from Pregnants, Lurkers, and Leapers. The Force Gun and Flamethrower especially will be vital. Like Gabe, Nathan will glance at the open closets, in where you can grab ammo for yourself. There's also a Line Gun by the exit.
  3. After reaching the exit, the pair will be in the shuttle bay where Gabe is. Nathan will stop to Free Look, allowing you to grab a Pulse Rifle.
  4. Weapon Upgrade #1: Right by the Pulse Rifle during Free Look.
  5. Lexine will call out to Nathan and he'll rush over to her to find Gabe in the control room.
  6. Weapon Upgrade #2: You'll have to snatch this off the ground as Nathan runs over to the control room; not entirely easy. Keep trying and you might catch it even if it off the screen.
  7. After a brief chat, Nathan will make his way all the way back to the cargo lift and ride in into the Flight Deck.

Underbelly

  1. As soon as Nathan gets off the lift, he turns to the right before heading left, allowing you to grab supplies.
  2. Weapon Upgrade #3: Also to the right of where you exit from the lift; you'll have to be quick as Nathan will make only two quick glances at it.
  3. After some exploration, Nathan will be hit with a siege of Pregnants, Leapers, Lurkers, and Exploders. Guns with high collateral damage will cause some serious explosions amongst the group.
  4. After killing them, Nathan will curse and jump down a vent shaft, initiating Free Look. Grab all you can.
  5. Text Log #1: Right from when Nathan lands after jumping down, grab the log from the corpse, or try for it during Free Look.
  6. Nathan will crawl into a pipe. You must use melee attacks to cut through growth and bat aside Swarms.
  7. After exiting the pipe, Nathan will land on a web of growth. On each level of growth you'll use Free Look to grab items including Recharges, then use Stasis on the spinning fans before the growth breaks and dumps you on top of them.
  8. At the bottom, Nathan will follow a tunnel, while Super Leapers continually attack, one by one. The Force Gun will make short work of them. More tunnel exploration will continue after Nathan cuts through growth.
  9. Audio Log #1: Nathan will cut through growth in the tunnel and have a hallucination. Be prepared to see the Audio Log afterward, in a small nook to Nathan's left.
  10. Nathan will finally exit the tunnel near a train station.

Freight Train

  1. There will be some trip lasers ahead. Use Kinesis to hurl boxes at the lasers, setting them off without taking you with them.
  2. Nathan will then enter the station and use Free Look. Grab all you can.
  3. Weapon Upgrade #4: In plain view during the freight station Free Look sequence.
  4. Next, Nathan will get on the freight train. Activate the console to get the train moving.
  5. Grab the artillery shells with Kinesis and throw them at any trip lasers in the train's path. If you survive, the train will stop at a platform.
  6. Weapon Upgrade #5: Right on the platform the train stops at.
  7. Another Free Look bit; grab all that you can, including ammo in the lockers.
  8. Nathan will exit through an air vent, have another hallucination, then exit to a new area.

Main Atrium

  1. Nathan will charge down an empty hall into the atrium itself.
  2. Text Log #1: When Nathan enters the new hall and goes right around the first corner, look for it in the ceiling.
  3. It will be a long battle throughout the atrium. There will be Pregnants, Exploders, Super Slashers, Lurkers, and Infectors. The Contact Beam is great for picking off Infectors and Lurkers as they flit about, as well as one-hit killing the Exploders (whether or not you hit their explosive pustule). If you see explosive canisters, grab and toss them.
  4. After enough killing, Nathan will run down into the captain's quarters to complete a Hacking Mini-game, then go back up and take the central elevator. Watch out for a Super Slasher in the elevator.
  5. Nathan will crawl out of the elevator when it breaks down. Grab the nearby Contact Gun if you like.
  6. Nathan will next enter another dark hall and scamper straight to the exit. Opening it reveals some Super Slashers; kill them.
  7. Text Log #2: You can't miss it as you traverse down the dark hall; it's right next to some ammo. If Nathan reaches the exit first, you're too late.
  8. After killing the Super Slashers, Nathan will continue into a storage closet to grab a spacesuit; take advantage of Free Look to loot the closet for ammo.
  9. Watch out for the Pregnant attacking Nathan from behind as he gets in the lift to the airlock.

Starboard Trench

  1. After Nathan opens the airlock, grab the supplies (including a Pulse Rifle, which will be handy against the incoming boss). He'll head on into outer space.
  2. Move from Jump Point to Jump Point, picking off Lurkers that are attacking you (the Contact Beam works well, or you can conserve ammo for an incoming boss fight by throwing back their projectiles).
  3. At the other side, Nathan will enter an airlock and need to complete a Hacking Mini-game.
  4. Nathan will return along the trench and encounter a boss character, a giant crab-like monster. He'll be a long, rough boss battle. For the first phase, you must shoot the yellow weakpoints on its claws RIGHT as they begin to swing down; if done correctly, they'll miss. If done just too early, the boss will just attack with the other claw, forcing you to try your luck with it. The Pulse Rifle works well for this.
  5. After enough swipes with its claws, it will try eating Nathan. Just shoot the yellow sacs that appear inside the mouth before they explode, releasing acid pus. If you have the Flamethrower, this will be very easy; just tap the B button every time a pustule appears.
  6. For the next phase, it will release a string of five orange balls from its mouth. You must destroy all of the orange balls. The Alternate Fire of the Force Gun, Flamethrower, and Line Gun are excellent for this. You'll want to destroy the balls closest to the boss monster; not only does this instantly kill all the balls in front of it and save you ammo, but they will release Leapers you can kill for health.
  7. Finally, a very small, yellow weakpoint will appear on some sort of appendage after all the balls are destroyed. You must destroy it quickly before it retracts. The Contact Beam is excellent for this; just charge up a shot and fire.
  8. You are STILL not done; you must repeat all of this FOUR MORE TIMES to kill this thing. Every time you destroy the weakpoint on the tail, there will be one less orange ball that comes out of the chain from its mouth during that phase. If you ever fail to destroy the weakpoint on the tail at any time, you will need to restart the entire process for that particular "round" of the boss. Once you've shot that final weakpoint five times total, it's finally over.
  9. Once the boss dies, you are still not through. Flying shrapnel will gore Nathan's hand, pinning him to the outer hull; you must hack off his hand using melee attacks before it is too late. The level will then end.

Chapter 10

Ishimura Shuttle 23

  1. You will play as Gabe again. After the dialogue, a couple enemies will storm your position. Kill them to begin a Free Look. Gabe will then depart.
  2. Weapon Upgrade #1: Look straight up at the ceiling during Free Look and snatch it out of the vent.
  3. Text Log #1: After Free Look, Gabe will climb out of the control room, looking to his left. The log will be there, between the console desk and the window.
  4. A big brawl against Super Slashers, Slashers, Female Slashers and Leapers will break out. Just keep plowing at them and if you have the Force Gun, shoot them when they get close. If the Females throw acid, throw it back.
  5. Gabe and Lexine will back away from a big mob to the other side of the shuttle. Keep shooting; you'll need to take out some monsters coming from nearby vents, as Lexine takes out a Slasher on her own.
  6. Ahead is a large horde, some of them Exploders and Pregnants. Try to kill the Exploders from long distance with something like the Line Gun, then grab their pustules and throw them at the Pregnants. There are crates everywhere you can hurl into foes although they can get in the way of item collection if they're scattered around.
  7. Weapon Upgrade #2: The INSTANT Gabe starts moving forward after the Exploder battle, keep the pointer on the right side of the screen. Gabe will turn to face Lexine and you will have, literally, a split-second to grab the upgrade, located to the right of Lexine.
  8. Audio Log #1: After Weapon Upgrade #2, Gabe will move forward and some more foes will bust out of vents in the ground. Ignore them if you want the Audio Log, which will be behind the pillar to your left. Again, you have literally less than a second to grab it, although Gabe will give you a couple chances to snag it.
  9. More Pregnants and other monsters will be ahead. Gabe and Lexine will battle around to the shuttle door and enter it. There's a Contact Beam inside; replace any weapon that's low on ammo with it.
  10. Weapon Upgrade #3: Can't miss this as Gabe and Lexine walk around the front of the shuttle.
  11. Gabe will need to protect the shuttle while Lexine gets it started. With the Contact Beam, you can pick off all that approach, toasting smaller creatures like Swarms and Leapers with the Flamethrower. Once Nathan shows up, the group will escape and the game will end.
