Achievements
- There are 48 achievements in Dead Space, which total 1,000 Gamer Score points. These include 14 achievements for completing the game; seven achievements for using various weapons; and eight secret achievements.
Completion Achievements
- These achievements are awarded to you simply for completing the levels of the game, and the entire game itself.
Dead on Arrival
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by completing Chapter One: New Arrivals on any difficulty setting.
Lab Rat
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by completing Chapter Two: Intensive Care on any difficulty setting.
All Systems Go
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by completing Chapter Three: Course Correction on any difficulty setting.
Cannon Fodder
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by completing Chapter Four: Obliteration Imminent on any difficulty setting.
True Believer
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by completing Chapter Five: Lethal Devotion on any difficulty setting.
Greenhouse Effect
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by completing Chapter Six: Environmental Hazard on any difficulty setting.
S.O.S.
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by completing Chapter Seven: Into the Void on any difficulty setting.
Strange Transmissions
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by completing Chapter Eight: Search and Rescue on any difficulty setting.
Wreckage
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by completing Chapter Nine: Dead on Arrival on any difficulty setting.
Keeper of the Faith
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by completing Chapter Ten: End of Days on any difficulty setting.
Betrayed
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by completing Chapter Eleven: Alternate Solutions on any difficulty setting.
Exodus
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by completing Chapter Twelve: Dead Space on any difficulty setting.
Survivor
- Points Earned: 50
- Unlocked by completing the game on any difficulty setting.
One Gun
- Points Earned: 40
- Unlocked by beating the entire game using only the Plasma Cutter, the first weapon you receive. This isn't as hard as it sounds, as the Plasma Cutter is actually an effective weapon in almost every situation, especially when powered up. Try to earn this achievement on an easier difficulty setting.
Epic Tier 3 Engineer
- Points Earned: 150
- Unlocked by completing the game on the Impossible difficulty setting. This difficulty is only available once you've beaten the game once, and can't be accessed on your first Round 2 playthrough. You need to load your cleared game and quit from that file to access a new game on Impossible.
Known Achievements
- The following achievements are those that can be viewed at the beginning of the game. Most derive from using a weapon or ability a certain number of times. They can all be unlocked at nearly any time once a weapon or ability has been found or purchased.
- Achievements that require you to gather a certain number of objects or use a game function a certain number of times are also included here.
- There are also a few achievements here that aren't obvious, and can only be gained at a certain point in the game. Achievements that carry a one-time opportunity are noted.
Marksman
- Points Earned: 5
- Unlocked by dismembering 20 enemy limbs. You'll get this through the natural course of the game.
Surgeon
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by dismembering 500 limbs. This achievement probably also will be unlocked during the normal course of the game.
Butcher
- Points Earned: 40
- Unlocked by dismembering 1,000 limbs. Possible on one playthrough, but you're probably more likely to need two for this one.
Armstrong
- Points Earned: 10
- Unlocked by shooting 50 objects with Kinesis. This can be unlocked immediately after gaining the Kinesis ability by just shooting objects until you earn the achievement. You're also likely to unlock it during the natural course of the game if you make use of Kinesis.
Freeze
- Points Earned: 15
- Unlocked by using Stasis on 50 enemies. You'll get this while playing naturally, as Stasis is a key ability to your survival.
Air Alert
- Points Earned: 10
- Unlocked by performing a Zero-G Jump more than 100 times. You can unlock this at any time when you're in zero-g by jumping, or wait for it to be unlocked during the natural course of the game.
Brawler
- Points Earned: 10
- Unlocked by killing 30 enemies with a melee attack.
- This is tough to do on higher difficulty settings, as enemies have a tendency to swing back and take a long time to die. Try it on Easy or Medium difficulties.
Ragdoll Check
- Points Earned: 5
- Unlocked by forcing an enemy into Gravity Panel five times. This isn't difficult to manage, but gravity panels are only available in certain areas. You can accomplish it the first time you come across gravity panels in Chapter Four, and again in Chapter Nine aboard the Valor. Keep an eye out for these exposed areas of the floor and try to knock enemies into them. Do so with melee attacks and your weapons, or by hitting enemies with objects using Kinesis.
Big Spender
- Points Earned: 10
- Unlocked by spending 300,000 credits at the Store. You should get this achievement about midway through the game if you use the Store to supply you with ammunition and other necessities.
Pack Rat
- Points Earned: 10
- Unlocked by storing 25 items in the Safe. You can do this at any time, but your inventory will start to get rather full around Chapters Four and Five. When you have a fair number of items, return to a Store and go to the Inventory screen. Save before doing this. Select each of your items, including weapons and ammunition, and choose Move to put them in the Safe. Then buy Small Medpacks repeatedly and move them into the Safe until you receive the achievement. Afterward, quit and reload your game so you get your money and items back with no repercussions.
Story Teller
- Points Earned: 20
- Unlocked by collecting 75 logs of any kind. If you follow this guide and collect all the Logs mentioned, you'll unlock this achievement through the course of the game. Logs include transmissions as well as Audio, Video and Text Logs found throughout the game.
Legend Teller
- Points Earned: 40
- Unlocked by collecting 150 logs of any kind. If you follow this guide and collect all the Logs mentioned, you'll unlock this achievement in the final chapter. Logs include transmissions as well as Audio, Video and Text Logs found throughout the game.
Merchant
- Points Earned: 10
- Unlocked by collecting eight schematics. These items are easy to find and always obvious - you can't miss them. You'll get this achievement fairly early in the game naturally.
Full Arsenal
- Points Earned: 30
- Unlocked by owning every weapon in the game. You'll need to collect schematics to make the weapons available to you, and you should have access to all of them by the midpoint. Buy the weapons and store unused ones in the Safe to unlock the achievement.
Crackshot
- Points Earned: 5
- Only available once
- Unlocked by getting a perfect score in the Shooting Gallery aboard the Valor in Dead Space Walkthrough. See the section on Dead Space Walkthrough for more information on the shooting gallery's location.
Z-Baller
- Points Earned: 5
- Unlocked by completing Level Six in Zero-G Basketball in Chapter Ten: Dead on Arrival. You'll find the Zero-G Basketball Court as a matter of course in the chapter. After clearing the area, you can play the mini-game to earn the achievement. Play by Zero-G Jumping to the lighted platforms. The more you jump to before the shot clock runs down, the higher the multiplier. Then use Kinesis to grab the ball and shoot it through one of the four hoops at the far end of the court. Each level changes the amount of time allowed to score points, as well as what hoops are available. For example, some of the four will be covered, and sometimes covers will open and close rhythmically.
Maxed Out
- Points Earned: 75
- Unlocked by using Power Nodes to upgrade all your weapons and equipment. This can't realistically be done in your first playthrough. Try it on a Round Two file, in which you'll be awarded an additional 10 Power Nodes plus what you had at the end of Chapter Twelve. You can buy Power Nodes from the Store as well. Plug them into equipment at a Work Bench.
There's Always Peng!
- Points Earned: 15
- Unlocked by finding the Peng Treasure, located in the Hangar in Chapter Eleven: Alternate Solutions. Go through the door marked Runway One when you leave the Flight Lounge. Walk along the runway and look over the rail to the right, into a trench between the runway and the wall. The treasure is a small doll that you can grab with Kinesis.
Tool Time
- Points Earned: 10
- Unlocked by killing 30 enemies with the Plasma Cutter.
Eviscerator
- Points Earned: 10
- Unlocked by killing 30 enemies with the Line Gun.
Autofire
- Points Earned: 10
- Unlocked by killing 30 enemies with the Pulse Rifle.
