Dead Milkmen

  • Formed in 1983, the Dead Milkmen were a Philadelphia-based punk rock and indie rock band whose music was almost entirely dedicated to humor and satire. The band's songs thrived on ridicule, making fun of various lifestyles—including hippies ("The Thing that Only Eats Hippies"), dance music fans ("You'll Dance to Anything") and fraternity brothers ("Brat in the Frat")—as well as other artists, including James Brown and Stevie Ray Vaughan. The band also offered tasteless, juvenile humor more offensive than the early Beastie Boys ("Taking Retards to the Zoo," "My Many Smells"), and wove bizarre, seemingly drug-induced accounts of mind control, giant lizards and intimate relations with animals. The band's most well known track is the 1988 college radio and MTV hit "Punk Rock Girl."
