How NASCAR became a national sport
The 1979 Daytona 500 was the first one televised live on national TV. CBS provided flag to flag coverage of the race. The race ended with a fist fight on the track between drivers Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison. The fight helped bring NASCAR into the national spotlight for the first time.
