The 2009 Daytona 500 lineup was determined by standings in the Gatorade Duel, also known as the Daytona Twin 150s.
Only 43 cars can race in the Daytona 500; each of those cars must have been one of the 66 cars in one of the two Gatorade Duel 150 mile races. The final lineup for the Daytona 500 is established using a complicated set of rules based on the previous season's results and the results of the Gatorade Duel.Jayski's NASCAR: JAYSKI's Semi-Live QUALIFYING/GRID page
The Daytona 500 occurred on February 15, 2009. Matt Kenseth won the race followed by Kevin Harvick and then A.J. Allmendinger. While Kenseth did not finish the race, he was in the lead when the race was called due to rain.
