The Days Inn hotel chain was founded by Cecil B. Day. The first property was located on Tybee, Island, Georgia in 1970. The chain was originally named 8 Days Inn.
The Early Years
In the early years Days Inn was a one stop property. There were gift shops, a Tasty World Restaurant and on-site gasoline that guests were able to buy for under the going rate. Days Inn of America Inc., was one of the first successful chains of hotels, so successful they began being franchised in 1972. By 1980 there were over 300 Days Inn's in Canada and the United States.

Days Inn properties are either operated independently or by a Wyndham Worldwide Inc. subsidiary. Since being acquired by Wyndham Worldwide, Day's Inn properties have been undergoing major upgrades, in order to be competitive in the current hospitality marketplace. In addition amenities such as free high speed internet and free Daybreak Breakfasts have been added. An upgrade popular with business travelers, the road warriors, is the opportunity to upgrade to the Days Business Place. This provide them with a larger work area, high speed internet, modem ports, and a large work space desk area. There are 1900 Days Inn properties in 16 different countries today, up from 300 in 1980. Days Inn has five different brand names that service and meet different patrons needs and preferences. The Wyndham Worldwide hotel rewards program "Trip Rewards" is the largest hotel program in the world.

1991: Tollman/Hundley started defaulting on debt, file bankruptcy
1991: HFS, Inc.(Silverman now with Blackstone) buys Days Inn for $290 million
1997: Cendant Corp. created in Dec. by merger with CUC Intl., Inc & HFS Inc.
2006: Before July 31, all assets & liabilities transferred to Wyndham Worldwide
2006: August 1, Wyndham Worldwide started trading NYSE: WYN
2007: 1900 Days Inn properties in 16 different countries
