Dawn McCreery was raped and murdered on September 1, 1986, by Richard Cooey and his accomplice Clint Dickens. Offredo's friend, Wendy Offredo was also raped and murdered by the pair. McCreery and Offredo were abducted after Dickens threw a piece of concrete off of an overpass into their windshield. Afterwards, Cooey and Dickens pretended to rescue McCreery and Offredo. Cooey's Execution
In 2003, Cooey won a last minute reprieve from execution and the date was rescheduled for October, 2008.
