David Thomas, the New Orleans Saints Tight End (number 85), is 6'3, and weighs 248 lbs. Even though he had a 4 year contract with the Patriots, they traded him to the Saints at the end of the 2009 preseason in exchange for a 7th round draft choice in 2011. During his 3 season career with the Patriots, Thomas caught 21 passes for 261 yards and a touchdown.
He attended Frenship High School in Wolfforth, TX, where, in his senior year, set records with 63 receptions for 1,130 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was a member of the National Honor Society, and also lettered in basketball and track.
At the University of Texas, where he majored in Kinesiology, he was a 3 time member of Texas' Athletices Director's Honor Roll. His football talent as a tight end was undeniable. He holds school records for: receptions by a TE (98), receiving yards by a TE (1,367), touchdown receptions by a TE (15), single season receptions by a TE (50 in 2005), single-game record for receptions by a TE (10 in the 2006 Rose Bowl. He also earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors in 2004 and 2005. He started in 38 of 51 games and didn't miss a game in his college career. And as if he didn't have enough to do, he and fellow teammates often visited ailing children at the Austin Children’s Hospital.
His concern for kids was also exemplified in his participation in the 2007 Salvation Army Holiday Party at Gillette Stadium which was attended by approximately 250 children from the Boston and Providence Salvation Army Centers.
He is married, and he and his wife, Kassidy have two sons, Jaxon David and Rylan Casey.http://www.neworleanssaints.com/Team/Roster/People/David%20Thomas.aspx
2009/10 Season
The trade to New Orleans had a personal affect on Thomas. His wife and sons stayed in New England for a month after he was traded. They finally moved to New Orleans, and stayed in a hotel. They are renting a house now, since his contract expires at the end of the year. And unable to sell their house in Plainville, MA, they are renting it out.http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/extra_points/2010/01/david_thomas_fi_1.html
In the 2009 regular season with the Saints, Thomas had 35 receptions for 356 yards, his longest being 37 yards. He also had a touchdown in the Nov. 22 game against Tampa Bay.
During the post-season play, he had only 3 receptions for a total of 32 yards.

The Super Bowl Roster for the Saints tight end had Jeremy Shockey as the starter, and David Thomas listed as backup. Curiously, both Shockey and Thomas were on teams that made it to the super bowl, but neither of them played the big games due to injuries. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/saints/notes.htm
Super Bowl XLIV was different, though. In the 4th quarter, Thomas caught a pass from Drew Brees, helping to set up the short TD pass to fellow TE, Jeremy Shockey. http://www.mahalo.com/super-bowl-live-coverage
2008/09 Season
In 2008, Thomas started in 10 of the 15 games he played, and only had 9 receptions for 93 yards and one special team tackle. That year, the Patriots' rushing season recorded 2,278 total yards, a rushing average of 4.4, and 21 rushing touchdowns, their best season in over two decades, but with minimal help from Thomas.http://www.neworleanssaints.com/Team/Roster/People/David%20Thomas.aspx
2008 was not a stellar year for Thomas, he was a healthy scratch for a late season match up with Seattle. In the game against Indianapolis on Nov. 2,2008, he was called for unnecessary roughness on their final drive, turning a third-and-one play into a third-and-sixteen. http://www.patriots.com/news/index.cfm?ac=generalnewsdetail&pid=36241&pcid=47
2007/08 Season
Thomas played in only two games in 2007 before being placed on injured reserve with a foot injury (vs. Cincinnati 10/01/07). In the only full game that he played on Sept. 23 against Buffalo, he had one reception for 9 yards. http://www.neworleanssaints.com/Team/Roster/People/David%20Thomas.aspx
