David Thewlis is a British actor, screenwriter, and novelist who has starred in such films as Naked and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

David Thewlis was born in Lancashire, England. His parents worked at his father's shop. Thewlis was involved with a rock band during his teen years and had intentions of being a musician but ultimately joined the Guildhall School of Music and Drama to pursue training as an actor.

Thewlis began working on the stage after graduation and earned praise for his first big screen role in Naked (1993). Soon after, he began appearing regularly in films and shot to international recognition for his portrayal of Remus Lupin in Alfonso Cuaron's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
