David Stern

David Stern is the commissioner of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Stern has been the commissioner since 1984.
The NBA

David Stern's first experience with the NBA was as an outside counsel in 1966, becoming the General Counsel in 1978. Stern was eventually named the Commissioner of the NBA, the fourth person to hold the position. Stern had the luxury of taking the position the same year that stars such as Michael Jordan entered the league. Jordan's popularity brought more national attention to the NBA, which led to the league's expansion to 30 teams and worldwide growth. Stern's regime has also seen the formation of the WNBA and the NBA's charitable contributions have increased greatly.NBA.com: David J. Stern (November 9, 2007)
