David Ross is a journeyman catcher who plays for the Atlanta Braves. Ross has played for the Dodgers,Pirates,Padres, Reds, Red Sox and now Braves. Ross started his career with the Auburn Tigers but then transferred to another SEC school, the Florida Gators in 1997. He is one of the few players in history to have been to the College World Series with two different programs.
In 1995 Ross was drafted by the LA Dodgers but decided to remain in school. The Dodgers drafted him again in 98 and this time he did sign with the Dodgers. He made his major league debut with the club in 2002 and had one of the strangest plays in major league history when he got his first homerun off of Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Mark Grace during a blowout of the Diamondbacks. http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=424325
Ross would leave the Dodgers in 2004 and would play for both the San Diego Padres and Pittsburgh Pirates before settling with the Cincinnati Reds in 2006. Ross became known in Cincinnati for his long homeruns and he also became the personal catcher for Bronson Arroyo. Ross was again involved in a strange play when hit into a triple play against the Phillies in 2007. Despite being a solid defensive catcher with the Reds, Ross struggled at the plate hitting dismal .203 for that season. The Reds would designate Ross for assignment and later be released by the Reds. In 2008, Ross would sign a minor league contract with the Red Sox but by December of that year, he would sign a major league contract with the Atlanta Braves. Ross’ best season as a major league was 2009 with the Braves. Ross batted .273 in 54 games with seven homeruns and 20 RBI’s. http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=424325
Ross has been the perfect compliment for regular Braves catcher Brian McCann.

This video is of David Rosss hitting a homerun against one of his old clubs, the Pittsburg Pirates. Ross was known for his homeruns while he was a player for the Reds and in fact hit almost a 500 footer against the Washington Nationals. This homerun may not have gone 500 feet, but it doesn’t look like Ross cared that afternoon.
