David Rockefeller is an American philanthropist, business man, banker and civil leader. He is the sole surviving grand child of Standard Oil magnate John D. Rockefeller. Throughout his lifetime he has made many contributions to the business world, as well as humanitarian organizations. In April of 2008 he made history at his alma mater, Harvard University by promising the largest donation in the university's history: $100 Million. The full donation will only be given after Rockefeller's death, but the university will receive $2.5 Million dollars each year until that time.
Military Service
After graduating from college he volunteered for the war effort, enlisting in the United States Army. During his time in service he became an officer and left the service with a rank of Captain.
Controversy
Perhaps the greatest controversy surrounding Rockefeller is his creation and participation in organizations of international scope which are designed to address global issues such as over-population and international trade. Helping to found the Trilateral Commission as well as The Council on Foreign Relations, he has come under fire for actions and plans of these groups.
