On June 4, 1999, Newhan made his MLB debut with the San Diego Padres. In his first season. Newhan appeared in 32 games and finished with a .140 batting average. He has played for several teams throughout his career, including the San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets and Houston Astros.
