Early Life
Mamet was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 30, 1947. The attended Francis W. Parker School and then Goddard College. Mamet would win the Pulitzer prize for his play Glengarry Glen Rosss. He would marry actress Lindsay Crouse in 1977 and share two children . The couple would divorce in 1991. In 1991, Mamet married actress Rebecca Pidgeon. -
Film Career
Mamet's first screenplay was the remake of the classic noir The Postman Always Rings Twice in 1981, starring Jack Nicholson. He would follow that up with the Paul Newman star vehicle The Verdict. He would direct his first film years later, in the critically acclaimed picture House of Games. He has since directed several films including Spartan, The Spanish Prisoner and The Heist. In 2008, his film Redbelt was released starring Chiwetel Ejiofor. -
