David Hicks participated in combat training with al Qaeda in Afghanistan and served under the Taliban regime in the region in 2001. Hicks was detained at Guantanamo Bay from 2001 to 2007, whereupon he pleaded guilty to supporting terrorism and was released back to Australia.
November 20, 2008: David Hicks, an Australian-born Muslim convert, will soon no longer have his communication or movements restricted by the Australian Federal Police, the restrictions will be lifted on December 21, 2008.
