David Harris is a professional football player for the NFL’s New York Jets. The New York Jets drafted Harris in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Former coach Eric Mangini envisioned him as an enforced in the middle of the Jets defense for years to come. Harris showed his ability in his rookie season when he compiled 127 tackles, five sacks and two fumbles forced despite only starting nine games. He finished third in the Defensive Rookie Of the Year voting, an award won by San Francisco's Patrick Willis.
Harris has made a name for himself as one of the hardest hitters at the linebacker position in the NFL, as he constantly makes his way onto the highlight reels with bone jarring hits. Harris' pending contract extension is one of the burning questions for the 2010 New York Jets. Many pundits wonder the likelihood of Harris returning due to the Jets having many potential expiring contracts to deal with.
