David Hare is a British Stage and Film writer and director. In 2009, Hare was nominated for the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar at the Academy Awards for the film The Reader directed by Stephen Daldry and adapted from the novel by Bernhard Schlink. However, the award went to Simon Beaufoy, writer of Slumdog Millionaire.

David Hare, born David Rippon was born in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex on June 5, 1947. In 1970, Hare's first play titled Slag was produced he followed up that success with several others including the play Plenty. In 1978, his first television script was produced for the BBC titled Licking Hitler. Hare followed up that television screenplay with a film adaptation of his play Plenty. Hare has since established himself as an award winning screenwriter with his work on such films as Strapless, The Hours and The Reader. He has also continued to establish himself as a premiere playwright with his plays such as The Blue Room, The Judas Kiss and Gethsemane. IMDb: David Hare
