David Gilmour is an English rock guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer. He joined psychedelic rock group Pink Floyd in 1968 to fill in the gaps left by the erratic behavior of frontman/guitarist Syd Barrett during live performances. Eventually, Gilmour replaced Barrett altogether and became the single guitarist in addition to providing vocals. Pink Floyd would go on to become one of the most successful and influential rock groups in the world.
After his relationship with Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters soured, Waters left the band and Gilmour continued fronting Floyd without him. Gilmour also released the occasional solo album during his career. He does most of his recording on a houseboat that has been equipped with a state-of-the-art recording studio.
