American Idol season seven contestant David Archuleta performed the song "Angels" on the April 8, 2008, episode of the hit televised singing competition.
Judges Comments
- Randy: "You know what I loved about this performance, when you did that little refrain at the end where you stopped and you did those runs, that was the David Archuleta that I love. That was crazy hot."'
- Paula: "That sums it up for me. Fantastic."
- Simon: "Best song choice of the night so far. This is one of the best written pop songs in my opinion. I'm not going to say it was your best vocal. I thought it was a bit nasally and that the end part was better than the beginning. I'm nitpicking here because you're going to sail through to the next round."

- Expecting something more along the lines of what you think of when the topic of "inspirational songs" comes up. I kind of like that some have been a bit more imaginative (Dream On, Innocent). David A. gets some face time, still drawing screams. He picks Angels by Robbie Williams (it's had some U.S. covers too, but I kind of like that David goes for those weird outside-the-U.S. ballads, like this and the John Farnham You're the Voice). Accompanying himself on piano (and accompanied by the ubiquitous backup singers, who are less obtrusive than usual), he does a solid job, with a big finish. This could be a good one for him. Randy loves the runs at the end and says it was his best of the season. Wanna bet Paula agrees? At least she's terse about it. Simon says best song choice of the night, because he feels it's overdue to be an American hit. He thinks the vocal was a bit nasally, but says he will sail through.
