  • Major League Baseball pitcher Dave Borkowski currently plays for the Houston Astros.

    Borkowski was drafted right out of high school, where he lettered in both baseball and basketball. The Detroit Tigers selected him in the 11th round of the MLB Draft on June 1, 1995. He was placed in the Tigers' minor league system for his first several years. Borkowski was called up on July 17, 1999 by the Tigers to make his MLB debut. He played in 12 major league games that season, starting in 12 games. In 2000 he was again placed with the Tigers' minor league affiliates, where he missed two months after surgery to remove a bone chip from his right elbow. He joined the Tigers for only two games that season. Borkowski returned to the Tigers in 2001, playing 15 games during the regular season. After failing to make the roster for a single game in 2002, the Tigers released him on April 27, 2003. Just a few days later Borkowski signed as a free agent with the Baltimore Orioles. He was again placed in the minors, finally joining the Orioles for 17 games during the 2004 season. In 2005, Borkowski again did not play a single MLB game and was granted free agency by the Orioles. On December 22, 2005 he signed as a free agnet with the Houston Astros. Borkowski saw slightly more action in the 2006 season, playing in 40 games, pitching a total of 71 innings. In 2007 he played in a career high 64 games and earning his first win on June 12 against the Oakland Athletics.
