Retired professional basketball player Dave Bing played for the National Basketball Association for 12 seasons and is considered one of the greatest players in the league's history.

On May 11, 2009, Bing was sworn in as Mayor of Detroit. After playing college basketball with the Syracuse Orange men's basketball team, Bing was selected in the first round of the 1966 NBA draft by the Detroit Pistons. He made his professional debut that same year, scoring 1,601 points to earn the NBA Rookie of the Year honors. Bing continued with the Pistons for a total of nine seasons, earning All-NBA selections in 1968, 1971 and 1974, as well as NBA All-Star Game selections in 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975.Official Site of the Detroit Pistons: Dave Bing

Also in 1975, Bing left the Pistons to play for the Washington Bullets. He earned his final All-Star selection with the Bullets and played one additional season in Washington, in 1977. Bing then played his final professional season with the Boston Celtics, before retiring in 1978.
