American comedian Dave Attell was born in Queens, New York on January 18, 1965. He gradated from New York University in 1987 with a degree in communications. Not knowing what he wanted to do once he had earn his bachelors degree he decided on a career in comedy. Like most struggling artist he worked a normal day job while in the evening time he tried his hand on the comedy circuit.
Big Break
His first big break came on VH1's Stand Up Spotlight hosted by Rosie O'Donnell. A few years later, in 1993 he made his debut on the The Late Show with David Letterman. Lorne Michael's, the creator of Saturday Night Live saw him on the show and gave him a job as a writer and background performer on Saturday Night Live. In 1995 Attell starred in two HBO specials which featured other stand up comedians like Dave Chappelle. Later in the same year he was given a solo 60 minute special on HBO's Comedy Showcase and another half hour show in 1997. From 1999 to 2002 Attell worked on The Daily Show with his friend Jon Stewart. Thanks to and on going and well received working relationship with Comedy Central Attell had his own series that lasted from 2001 to 2004 called Insomniac. The show consisted of Attell traveling about late at night drinking large amounts of alcohol and interacting with others.
