Darrent Williams was a cornerback for the Denver Broncos in the National Football League. Williams was shot and killed on January 1, 2007, in Denver, Colorado.
The family of Williams was contacted by running back Knowshon Moreno, who was drafted by the Broncos in the 2009 NFL draft, asking permission to wear Williams' #27 jersey in the 2009 season. Football Career
After playing in college for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Williams was selected 56th overall in the 2005 NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He made his NFL debut that year, playing in 15 games and recording 86 tackles. He also joined the Cowboys for 12 games in 2006, starting in nine of the 12.
Shooting
In the early morning of January 1, 2007, Williams was shot in a drive-by shooting in Denver, Colorado. At the time, Williams was riding in a vehicle with teammate Javon Walker and two other people. It was later revealed that Williams died from a single gunshot wound to the neck, killing him instantly.
On October 8, 2008, alleged gang member Willie DeWayne Clark was indicted for the murder of Williams. 25-year-old Clark was already in police custody for drug charges at the time of the indictment.
Murder Suspect Convicted
On March 11, 2010, Willie D. Clark was convicted and found guilty of murdering Darrent Williams.
