  • Early Life

    Darren Lee Sproles was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on June 20, 1983. He attended high school at Olathe North in Olathe, Kansas, and continued his education at Kansas State University. In 2005, Sproles was selected with the 130th pink in the NFL draft by the San Diego Chargers.
  • Pro Career

    In his first season with the Chargers, Sproles appeared in 15 games. He worked mostly in special teams, but did get eight carries and ran for a total of 50 yards in his rookie year. He missed the entire 2006 season season due to a broken ankle. In 2007, he had 37 carries and ran for 164 yards. His breakout season came in 2008 where he emerged is a reliable back up to superstar running back LaDainian Tomlinson.     On January 3, 2009, Darren Sproles ran for 328 total yards in the Chargers wild card victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Sproles replaced the injured LaDainian Tomlinson in the second half.
