  • Darren James is a former pornography actor who was diagnosed with the HIV virus in 2004. With the announcement of his diagnosis and the determination that the virus was spread to three actresses James had worked with, the San Fernando Valley adult film industry was shut down for a month.

  • Career

    After leaving the Navy in 1989, Darren James settled in the Los Angeles area. Unable to find consistent work, James was occasionally homeless.

    In 1997, a friend referred James to a modeling job in the San Fernando Valley but it turned out to be a pornography shoot. According to James, he was needed the money so he performed. Things went well and he was hired for more projects. By 2004, he had a fan base and was making a good living in the industry.

    After his HIV diagnosis was publicly revealed he was so distraught he traveled to Tijuana, Mexico.   • Lawsuit

    Darren James filed a lawsuit against the Adult Industry Medical clinic in 2005. The lawsuit accused the AIM clinic and several of its officials of medical negligence and invasion of privacy. The case was settled out of court but the financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
