Darren Arthur “Dutch” Daulton was born on January 3, 1962 in Arkansas City, Kansas and is a former catcher in Major League Baseball. He spent 13 of his 14 years with the Philadelphia Phillies, before winning the World Series in his final year with the Florida Marlins in 1997. Daulton would then go on to spend the next 8 years of his career with the Phillies as their perennial starting catcher. During that time, he became a key part of their post-season campaigns for the next several years. This would culminate with the Phillies World Series run in 1993 against the American League's Toronto Blue Jays. Daulton's tenure with the Phillies and his career would end in 1997 after being traded to the Florida Marlins for their World Series run. Following their championship win, Daulton retired winning the Major League's Comeback Player Of The Year.
Career Highlights with the Phillies
Daulton reached star status shortly thereafter in the 1992 season, where he had 109 runs batted in to lead the National League and make his first All-Star Game appearance. Trade to Marlins and Retirement
On July 20, 1997, Daulton left the Phillies organization after 17 years in a trading deadline deal that sent him to the Florida Marlins for outfielder Billy McMillon. That season, he finished with a .263 batting average, 14 home runs, 63 RBI and 68 runs scored in just 395 at bats to help the Marlins win the 1997 World Series over the Cleveland Indians. Daulton concluded his 14-year career with a .245 batting average, 137 home runs, 588 RBI and 511 runs scored in 1161 games. This was enough to rank him as the 25th greatest catcher of all-time by statistician Bill James in the Historical Baseball Abstract 2001.
