This page is a full text walkthrough for the 2001 action/RPG game Dark Cloud. Outlined in this walkthrough are step-by-step instructions for rebuilding each village, strategies for the boss fights and details on the Ultimate Weapons.
This guide is a step-by-step walkthrough for the PlayStation 2 role-playing simulation game Dark Cloud. No two playthroughs are alike since the dungeons, items and Atla spheres are randomly generated. Since the number of Atla spheres per level of each dungeon varies, the lists of Atla needed to rebuild villages to 100% completion, as well as what key items are used for each dungeon, have been included in the Rebuilding the World section. Each character's Ultimate Weapon is detailed in the Weapons section. Please note that this guide uses the default names for characters. -
-
-
General Overview
- Health - Your remaining HP/total HP for the current character. You can use Bread and other recuperative items to restore HP, as well as stepping into the pools and waterfalls you encounter in dungeons.
- Thirst - You have to keep your characters hydrated. Once your thirst meter is empty, your HP will diminish. Keep that from happening by using Water, or by using the pools and waterfalls you encounter in dungeons.
- Status - There are several status conditions, such as Poison, which slowly drains HP over time, and Gooey, which slows character movement speed. Use a status-negation item, like Antidote for Poison, to return to normal. Pools and waterfalls do not remove status conditions.
- TIP: If you don't have a status-negation item, you can use a status-changing item to change the status to one you do have an item for. If you have no status-negation items, use a Throbbing Cherry, which will switch the current status with "Freeze", which goes away with time. Be sure not to do that in the middle of a mob of monsters!
- WHP - Your weapon's remaining HP/total HP. With every use of your weapon, this meter diminishes, and once it hits 0, the weapon breaks. Use Repair Powder to keep your weapon in good condition.
- ABS - Your weapons absorb points for each enemy you defeat. Once this meter is full, you can upgrade your weapon to increase its stats.
- Active Item slots - These slots indicate a "hot key" item, which you set from the Items menu. To use an item, use the D-Pad to select it, and then press the Square button. Some items, like Holy Water, are thrown items that can damage enemies.
- Speed - This meter indicates how fast your character can swing their weapon. Attacking causes it to drop, so after a combo give it time to recharge if you want to attack quickly. This meter regenerates over time.

Characters
- Toan (Melee) - The main protagonist of the game, Toan is a resident of Norune Village. He uses swords, and is the only character who can open the Atla spheres found in dungeons. Feed him Fluffy Doughnuts to raise his defense.
- Xiao (Ranged) - A shape-shifting cat-woman, Toan finds her as a stray cat in Divine Beast Cave. After giving her the Changing Potion, Xiao joins the party. She uses Slingshots, and can jump across chasms in the dungeons. Feed her Fish Candy to raise her defense.
- Goro (Melee) - A squat fellow Toan meets upon arriving in Matataki Village. Goro uses hammers and axes, and has some of the most powerful (and slow) attacks in the game. He can open doors in dungeons by pounding posts down with his hammer. Feed him Grass Cake to raise his defense.
- Ruby (Ranged)- A genie found in the Queens chapter, she uses rings to decimate foes from range. She can open doors in dungeons by shooting colored switches. Feed her Witch Parfait to raise her defense.
- Ungaga (Melee)- A warrior of the desert tribe Toan encounters en route to the Sun and Moon Temple. Ungaga uses polearms, and has better melee reach than either Goro or Toan. He can go through doorways filled with smoke. Feed him Scorpion Jerky to raise his defense.
- Osmond (Ranged)- The leader of the Moon people, Osmond uses guns to quickly whittle foes to bits. He can fly over the chasms in dungeons that Xiao can't jump across. Feed him Carrot Cookies to raise his defense.
- TIP: Osmond can cross the gaps that Xiao can, and the gaps she can't.
-
Fishing
- Toan can fish once he acquires the Fishing Pole and some bait. Your first opportunity to try it out is in Norune, after you've found and placed the Fishing Pond. To fish, find a fishing spot and select "Fish" from the menu. Attach the bait, and cast your line. Some tips for fishing:
- Never let your bait sit idly - you're bound to lose it.
- Fishing times in-game are best at night and early morning.
- Watch your bobber (the red/white ball). When a fish takes the bait, it sinks completely beneath the water. When that happens, press X to snag the fish and reel it in. You only have to press X once, the reeling is done automatically.
- Don't be afraid to switch bait if you're not having any luck - like most of the game, the fishing is somewhat randomized.

-
Puzzles
- Some doors require more than a key to open - some require bashing a post, for example. Large chasms in the floor can't be crossed by just anyone, either. Below are all the character-related puzzles you'll run into, and how to solve them.
- Locked Door - Find the key that opens it. These differ for each dungeon.
- Locked Door with a post outside - Switch to Goro, and use his hammer to bash the post down. This will unlock the door.
- Locked Door with a glowing crystal outside - Shoot the crystal with Ruby in First Person view(press R2 to switch to First Person). You must shoot the sphere with the attribute its color corresponds to. Red is Fire, Blue is Ice, Green is Wind, Yellow is Thunder, and White is Holy. Switch to the appropriate attribute and nail the crystal to open the door.
- Door filled with smoke - Use Ungaga to get through these doors. Switch to him and press X when you see the "!" alert.
- Chasm with a middle step - Xiao or Osmond can cross these gaps. Switch to one of them, and press X when you see the "!" alert.
- Chasm without a step - Osmond can cross these gaps. Switch to him and press X when you see the "!" alert.
-
Map
- The map will fill in as you explore the dungeon. Finding a Map item will give you a completed map instantly, but be warned - when you leave, you lose the map, as all floors are randomly generated.
- Pink Arrow - Your current location
- Green Dots - Atla spheres
- Red Dots - Enemies
- Yellow Dots - Treasure chests and other accessible items
- Green Square - Floor entrance
- Yellow Square - Floor exit
- Yellow Bar - Locked door
- Blue Circle - Pool or waterfall, regenerates HP/Thirst
- White Circle - Mystery tile, can cause good or bad status condition
- Pink "?" Icon - Entrance to the Back Floor, must use Back Floor key
-
Duels
- Duels are forced fights that use button combinations to win. You must press the button shown on screen when it's highlighted in the white bar - the closer to the white bar, the better your rating is.
- Duels don't randomize per game, meaning that if you lost a duel and retry, it will use the same buttons as a previous duel. If you start a new game or reset the console, that duel may change buttons, so always save before and after a duel.
- To duel effectively, learn the timing. Look ahead of the highlight to see what button is coming next. This helps to be ready to press the button before it's too late.
-
Limited Zones
- Limited Zones force you to deal with something for the entirety of the level you're on. You may get thirsty faster than usual, or you might be limited to one character. All non-randomized Limited Zones are listed in the walkthrough. Below are some tips on dealing with certain Limited Zones.
- ABS Zone - Your weapon will constantly lose ABS. To prevent this, leave the level and upgrade your weapon on another level. Once it's upgraded, return to the ABS Zone. Since your weapon is at 0 ABS, you can't lose any ABS points.
- Character Zone - You will be limited to a specific character. Always level your characters evenly, as you will run into these zones in later dungeons where a low level ally will be easily killed if you aren't careful. Make sure everybody is within 5 to 10 points of each other's HP, and upgrade thirst meters equally. If you have an ally with a low level weapon, spend some time in an earlier dungeon to upgrade. Always have your weapons upgraded at least to +2 before entering a new dungeon. This will ease the pain of being stuck in a Character Zone.
- Thirst Zone - Your character will get thirsty faster than usual. Upgrade all character's thirst meters equally. If Toan is the only one with an upgraded thirst meter, and he dies, you may as well count everybody else out too.
-
Back Floors
- Back Floors are special areas that you can access from any level of the dungeon as long as you have the appropriate item. For example, in Divine Beast Cave, you use the Tram Oil on the Tram Cart to enter the Back Floor. These Back Floor keys are rare, but well worth the hunt - the Back Floors have fewer enemies and no Atla, but the enemies are more difficult and worth more ABS(in some cases more than twice as much). Back Floors also have better treasure items and weapons than the standard dungeon levels, making them ideal locations for leveling and looting high-level items earlier than usual. Back Floor keys are listed in each chapter, and Back Floor doors are labeled on the Map as a pink "?" symbol. Be sure to stock up on restoration and status-negation items before venturing into a Back Floor.
-
Chapter One
- This chapter is centered around Norune Village, home to Toan, the main protagonist of the game. The dungeon for this chapter is the Divine Beast Cave, the lair of Dran.
- You'll use Dran's Crest to progress through the dungeon in this chapter.
- Tram Oil can be used to access the Back Floors of Divine Beast Cave.
- The Bone Key is used to open locked doors throughout the dungeon.
-
Norune Village
- CUTSCENE: A Dark Genie is revived from a 400-year sleep during a Dance of Blood, and destroys much of the Western continent, including Toan's village. Toan attempts to rescue Paige from being crush by a falling tower, and is saved himself by the Fairy King, who saved the village by sealing everything in spheres called Atlas. The Fairy King gives Toan an Atlamillia, a device that lets him collect the spheres to restore his village, and leaves Toan standing where his village once was.
- YouTube: Dark Cloud Beginning (Time: 2:04)
- Go into the Mayor's house and speak with him. He'll ask you to go the Divine Beast Cave to get help from Dran, and give you the Cave Key, as well as some healing items.
- After the Mayor finishes talking, go up to the door behind him and press X when you see the ! symbol to obtain a Prickly.
- TIP: You can return to the Mayor's house at any time to replenish your supplies(until you complete and place the Gaffer's Buggy, that is).
- Head to the upper right of the map to the Divine Beast Cave.
- TIP: You can press select and use the Walking Mode to travel there quickly.
- Press X when you see the ! symbol to see a big keyhole. Press square to bring up your items, and select the Cave Key.
- Press X to select the B1 floor of the Divine Beast Cave.
-
Divine Beast Cave
- CUTSCENE: The Fairy King gives Toan instructions on completing the dungeon, and some information about weapons, Mind Connecting, and the Atla spheres.

Enemies
- Cave Bat: Can give you poison status, even while blocking. Use a charge attack and move in close for a quick kill.
- Dasher: Attacks and runs away. Use a quick combo to avoid taking damage.
- Dragon: Shoots fireballs at you. Use the same tactics as the Statue, and refrain from combos until you have an upgraded weapon.
- Ghost: Levitates and throws purple fireballs. Dodge the fireballs, and attack when he's on the ground.
- King Mimic: Similar to the Mimic, use the same tactics. Hold R1 to block, then combo him for an easy win.
- Master Jacket: A tougher version of Skeleton Soldier, use the same tactics to bring him down as well.
- Mimic: Disguised as treasure chests, they attack quickly. Use R1 to block, then combo them into oblivion.
- Opar: A massive enemy, he spits clouds that inflict Gooey status. Avoid the clouds, dodge back behind him and slash away.
- Rockanoff: Avoid this rolling enemy and hit him on his way past you for an easy kill.
- Skeleton Soldier: Somewhat tricky, use R1 to block, then retaliate for a painless battle.
- Statue: Slow but powerful, use hit and run tactics until you have an upgraded weapon. With a powerful weapon, a quick combo is better.
- Statue Dogs: Take no damage while sitting, lure them and combo them to avoid their attacks.
- Yammich: Has a powerful spinning attack. Use a charge attack to destroy him quickly.
-
Floor B1
- TIP: When attacking enemies, mash the X button quickly to do combos.
- Keep on the lookout for a Map - this makes navigating the random dungeons easier.
- You may run across a large treasure chest - these chests are trapped with either Explosion, Poison, or Curse, and require you to guess the trap or use a treasure key. 65 - 70% of them are either Poison or Curse traps.
- TIP: Once you've solved the trap for a large treasure chest, 99% of the other treasure chests in that dungeon will be the same trap. This can save you a lot of HP and status-negation items in the long run.
-
Floor B2
- Be sure to use the Spring to recover your HP and thirst, if there's one available.
- TIP: If you get poisoned and don't have an Antidote Drink, you can use a Throbbing Cherry instead - it freezes you, changing your status effect. Be sure to use only in a cleared out room.
- You may see a cutscene involving a Stray Cat running from Toan.
-
Floor B4
- CUTSCENE: Three Skeleton Soldiers attack Toan. After defeating them, a tougher Master Jacket appears, and the Fairy King pops up with advice on dueling.
- All you have to do is win the duel - two treasure chests pop up - one will have Dran's Crest. Walk forward to the only door and use it to complete B4.
- There are no Atla spheres on this floor.
- YouTube: Dark Cloud The First Duel (Time: 2:57)
-
Floor B7
- CUTSCENE: The Fairy King appears again, this time to tell Toan about Back Floors, Limited Zones, and to wish him well before disappearing.
- This is the first Limited Zone floor - a message will appear, letting you know what can and can't be done, and what the Limited Zone is doing to you.
- TIP: If the Limited Zone is reducing weapon ABS, leave and upgrade your weapon. A weapon with 0 ABS can't be reduced!
-
Floor B8
- CUTSCENE: Toan is forced into a duel with a mysterious man with white hair. During the fight, Toan protects the stray cat that he's seen all throughout the dungeon, which amuses the white-haired man. He gives Toan a Changing Potion, then leaves. The stray cat walks off, and is captured inside an Atla sphere.
- YouTube: Dark Cloud Duel with Seda (Time: 4:45)
- Collect the "Stray Cat" from the Atla sphere. Return back to Norune Village, and place the cat in Toan's House using the Georama menu.
- You must complete Toan's house to advance - once you do, an Event will play. Go upstairs to watch the event, then return upstairs after the event ends.
- Use the changing potion on Xiao, and she'll turn into an ally. The Fairy King will explain a bit about allies once this happens.
- Return to B8, and use Xiao to jump across the gap.
- There is only one (1) Atla sphere, the one that held the Stray Cat, on this level. You must collect it before proceeding to floor B9.
- YouTube: Dark Cloud Xiao Joins the Party (Time: 3:36)
-
Floor B9
HINT: From this point on, you'll use Allies to get past obstacles. Xiao, your new ally, can jump across chasms. Use her when necessary to get through the floor.- Remember to keep your allies on a similar level to your main character - if you have to switch during a boss fight, it's best to make sure your backup character will survive.
-
Floor B11
- Another Limited Zone will force you to use Xiao, with no ability to switch between characters.
- If it seems too difficult, take Xiao back to earlier floors in the dungeon and work on upgrading her weapon.
- Keep an eye out for Fluffy Doughnuts and Fish Candy - feeding these to Taon and Xiao, respectively, will increase their defense.
-
Floor B12
- Continue collecting the Atla spheres and killing all the enemies. Be sure to check all the treasure chests for weapons and items.
- HINT: You can move Georama pieces an unlimited number of times. Use this to your advantage by placing the "Gaffer's Buggy" close to the entrance of Divine Beast Cave.
- HINT: The Mayor will stop giving you free items once you've completed the Gaffer's Buggy. Keep the free items coming by waiting to complete the Gaffer's Buggy.
- YouTube: Dark Cloud Broken Dagger Glitch (Time: 1:21)
-
Floor B13
- Continue collecting the Atla spheres and leveling your weapons. Both Taon's and Xiao's weapons should be upgraded to +5 or higher, work through the first floors again if they aren't.
- At this point, Taon's and Xiao's defense should be +15 or higher. Increase it by feeding them Fluffy Doughnuts and Fish Candy, respectively. Both items are found in the dungeon, as a drop from enemies, and in the chests found in town.
-
Floor B14
- To continue to floor B15, you'll need the Horned Key. To obtain it, you need to rebuild Dran's Windmill.
- Dran's Windmill needs Dran's Blades, Dran's Horn, a Sign, and a Torch. Build it in the center of the town. Once it's complete, an Event will be triggered.
- Go to Dran's Windmill and open the chest. You'll receive the Horned Key. Take this back to the Divine Beast Cave and use it to access floor B15.
-
Floor B15 BOSS - Dran
- Use Xiao to hit Dran in the face with a slingshot. He'll drop to the ground.
- Use Taon to attack Dran's legs, this keeps you far enough away that you can dodge easily.
- Repeat this process and the battle is simple, if time-consuming.
- TIP: You can use Dran's Feather to increase your movement speed.
- Talk to Dran to learn more about the Dark Genie, the Moon Tribe, and some extra back-story. He'll carry you back to town and give you the World Map.
- Rebuild the town and get 100% completion in all three Georama analysis categories, then talk to Dran to receive your first charge attack, the "Windmill Slash". For help on getting 100% completion in the Georama analysis, refer to the Norune Village Rebuild section.
- YouTube: Dark Cloud Boss 1: Divine Beast, Dran (Time: 8:17)
-
Chapter Two
- This chapter is centered around Matataki Village, which is watched over by Treant, and is home to Goro. The dungeon for this chapter is the Wise Owl Forest, ruled by Master Utan.
- You'll use one of three items to progress through the dungeon in this chapter: Red Berry, Pointy Chestnut, or Shiny Stone.
- Sun Dew can be used to access the Back Floors of Wise Owl Forest.
- The Moustache Key is used to open locked doors throughout the dungeon.
-
Matataki Village
- YouTube: Dark Cloud Entering Matataki (Time: 2:47)
- Follow Dran's advice and head to Matataki Village using your new World map. Once there, you find a barren place much like Norune Village was. During a short cutscene, you'll see someone looking at you, then running off. Chase him.
- You'll come up to a giant tree house, and the man you were chasing will challenge you to a duel. Defeat him to gain the Hunter Earrings and learn that his name is Goro. Talk to him to learn more about the Hunter Earrings and Treant.
- TIP: You can easily win the duel if you keep an eye open for the "rotation" button.
- Head back to the village proper, then head Northwest to find Treant.
- YouTube: Dark Cloud Duel with Goro (Time: 2:08)
- CUTSCENE: Toan finds Treant, but he's withered and dry. The Fairy King appears and informs Toan that, in his current state, Treant can't help him. The Fairy King opens the gate to the Wise Owl Forest, where Toan must search for the Atla spheres containing Matataki Village. Before departing, the Fairy King tells Toan to make connecting the river to Treant his top priority.
- YouTube: Dark Cloud Dried Up Treant (Time: 2:19
-
Wise Owl Forest
- Head to the entrance to Wise Owl Forest.
- NOTE; Things work a bit differently here than in Divine Beast Cave. First, you won't be moving between floors, but between territories. Secondly, instead of using Dran's Crest to move to the next territory, you must use one of three items: Red Berry, Pointy Chestnut, or Shiny Stone. Give these to the Owl at the end of each territory to proceed to the next. Which item the Owl will want is randomized, so having all three is best. You'll need Sun Dew to access the Back Floor. Use the Sun Dew in the pools with the Shining Leaf floating in them.
-
Enemies
- Cannibal Plant: Can inflict Gooey and Poison status. Avoid the status attack, then combo them into oblivion.
- Earth Digger: Pops up from the ground to attack. Can inflict Freeze status. Avoid the smoke and combo them, or use Xiao from a distance.
- FliFli: Can inflict Poison status with its pollen attack. Avoid the pollen, and combo, or take them out from a distance with Xiao.
- Friday: A boxing dwarf. Use R1 to block, then combo.
- Haley Holey: Lure them out of the ground by hitting them, otherwise they won't take any damage. Use Xiao to kill them from long range.
- Halloween: Throws fireballs at you. Avoid them, and combo for a quick win.
- Hornet: Listen carefully and you can hear them ahead of time. Use a charge attack to put them down.
- King Mimic: Similar to the Mimic, use the same tactics. Hold R1 to block, then combo him for an easy win.
- King Prickly: The large, wild version of your fishing bait, they drop from above you. Combo them into pieces once they hit the ground.
- Mimic: Disguised as treasure chests, they attack quickly. Use R1 to block, then combo them into oblivion.
- Monday: A dwarf with a spear. Use R1 to block, then combo.
- Saturday: A dwarf that blows poison darts. Avoid the darts, then combo.
- Sunday: A dwarf with a dagger. Use R1 to block, then combo.
- Thursday: A dwarf that throws poisonous spheres. Avoid them, then combo.
- Tuesday: A dwarf that blows poison darts. Avoid the darts, then combo.
- Wednesday: A dwarf with an axe. Use R1 to block, then combo.
- Werewolf: Use Xiao to attack from far away, and keep circling it. Don't try any melee attacks unless you have high (+40 or higher) defense.
- Witch Illza: Can inflict Poison status by throwing Poisonous Apples at you. Use Xiao to take them down without getting close enough to be poisoned.
- TIP: Magic Crystals reveal the locations of enemies and items, use it to avoid King Prickly's attack path.
-
Territory 1
- There's nothing too difficult or new here, simply collect key items like the Map and work your way around the floor collecting items, looting the treasure chests, and defeating enemies. Grab the Atla spheres and continue down to Territory 2.
- YouTube: Dark Cloud Wise Owl Forest Territory 1 (Time: 8:17)
-
Territory 4
- Limited Zone: You can only control Xiao, meaning there aren't any Atla spheres in this level. As long as you've been leveling your characters evenly, this shouldn't be problem - work your way through, collecting items and looting chests. Instead of collecting all three of the level keys at once, as you collect them take them to the Owl to see if it will accept it. Once that door is open, you can use it to make a quick escape that won't cost you progress.
- YouTube: Dark Cloud Wise Owl Forest Territory 4 (Time: 4:49)
-
Territory 5
- Haley Holeys appear, making life difficult for you if you haven't been leveling Xiao properly. Use Xiao to attack from a distance to lure them out of the ground - now they can take damage. Continue attacking from range and avoid their melee attacks to keep from wasting restoration items. Keep collecting Atla spheres and key items, and move on.
-
Territory 6
- Witch Illzas appear, so keep some anti-Poison items handy. Don't forget to restock your items from time to time - you might not find bread and water that easily in the dungeons.
- YouTube: Dark Cloud Wise Owl Forest Territory 6 (Time: 7:30)
-
Territory 7
- Keep an eye on the lower right corner of the screen when going further into the dungeon. If it is a randomized Limited Zone, you'll want to read and see what the limits are. Some ABS Zones also prevent you from swapping weapons, while others allow weapon swapping.
- You might want to start stocking up on throwing items, like Bombs. You will be obtaining a new party member soon, which is almost always followed by a Limited Zone that forces you to play that new, weak character. Bombs can help you stay alive long enough to upgrade weapons and defense.
-
Territory 8
- You'll need to exit the dungeon at this point and reconnect Treant to the river. Since you won the Hunter Earrings from Goro earlier, you can translate what Treant says.
- CUTSCENE: Treant tells thanks Toan for saving him, and sneezes out the Serpent Sword as a gift. Treant explains to Toan that the Serpent Sword is unbreakable, at least until it has accomplished its mission. Hmmm...
- You need to rebuild Cacao's house at this point to trigger an event. Watch the event, and you'll receive the Odd Tone Flute. Go ahead and equip the Serpent Sword if you haven't already, and head back into the dungeon.
- YouTube: Dark Cloud The Serpent Sword (Time: 3:15
-
Territory 9
- YouTube: Dark Cloud Duelling the Killer Snake (Time: 2:43)
- You'll get into a duel with three Werewolves on this level. Watch your timing and keep an eye on what button is coming next to win this duel with ease.
- Play the Odd Tone Flute to lure the Killer Snake out of the cave, and a rather long duel will ensue. Aside from the length, this shouldn't be too hard, as long as you have the Serpent Sword equipped; otherwise, you'll lose even if you press every button perfectly. After defeating the snake, you'll get the Bone Pendant.
- Leave the dungeon again and go to Goro's tree house. Show him the Bone Pendant, and a short cutscene will play explaining how Fudoh, Goro's father, died at the hands of the Killer Snake. Goro will then join your party.
- Return to Territory 9 and use Goro to pound the tree stump/switch to open the door to Territory 10.
- YouTube: Dark Cloud Goro joins the party!! (Time: 5:26)
-
Territory 10
- Now that you have Goro, become accustomed with using your Allies. Press Triangle to open the menu, select "Allies", and swap between the three of them until you're comfortable with it. You'll need to use them as a team to complete the game, as most dungeons have multiple obstacles and most bosses require at least two characters working in unison to defeat.
-
Territory 11
- Continue collecting Atla spheres and looting the treasure chests.
- It's usually better to use a new weapon than one you've been upgrading if the new weapon's stats are better - you might upgrade your old one until is better, but if the new one starts with higher stats, it's upgraded stats will be equally higher as well. Turn your old weapons into Synthspheres and use them to power up your new weapon - you should always do this whenever the opportunity is available to keep your weapons in top form.
-
Territory 12
Limited Zone: You can only control Goro, meaning there aren't any Atla spheres in this level. Be sure to level Goro up on earlier levels if you're having trouble with the enemies, and keep an eye open for Grass Cake, which can raise Goro's Defense stat permanently. Continue looting treasure chests and defeating enemies, then move on. Since Goro is pretty weak at this point, use charge attacks with hit-and-run tactics to defeat some of the stronger enemies, like the Witch Illza. -
Territory 13
- Another level, another source of supplies. Make sure you're fully stocked on regenerative and status-negation items - it pays off to keep your inventory full.
- Make sure to take the time to completely clear each level. Every enemy adds ABS points to your weapon, making your attacks stronger and faster.
- TIP: If you have run out of Repair Powders, but need to continue leveling a certain weapon, try this - defeat an enemy with a different weapon, and quickly equip the weapon you want to level. It will absorb the ABS points, without losing any WHP.
-
Territory 14
- This is a good level to build up your weapons. Make sure you have all your character's weapons upgraded as high as you can get them between here and level 16, and turn any weapons you no longer use into Synthspheres for upgrade purposes.
- At this point, you should have run across some upgrades for weapons(for example, Stone Breaker). Be sure to use these upgrades on your best weapon, they make defeating enemies easier.
- TIP: When turning a weapon into a Synthsphere, keep the upgrades on the weapon. Your new Synthsphere will transfer its attributes and 60% of its former power to the weapon you equip it to. In application, a weapon that has two Stone Breakers attached will give the stats for Both Stone Breakers to the new weapon while only using one slot. You can build specialized weapons for dealing with tougher foes this way.
-
Territory 15
- Continue fighting and collecting the Atla spheres.
- TIP: To see if you've found all the Atla spheres in a level, exit the dungeon using Mind Connect(press Triangle, and select "Mind Connect" from the list). Re-enter the dungeon, and a menu pops up to let you know how many Atla spheres there are per level, how many you've collected, and how many enemies you've defeated.
-
Territory 16
- Before fighting Master Utan, rebuild Matataki Village to 100% complete status. Goro will receive the Battle Axe from Treant and a Turtle Shell from CousCous. Equip the Battle Axe on Goro to reduce the time of fighting Master Utan, and be sure to upgrade everyone's Defense to 30 or higher.
- When you rebuild the Mushroom house, you'll trigger an event. Watch the event, and go up the ladder like Ro and Annie ask. Ro will give you the Moon Grass Seed, an item you'll need to reach Master Utan. Climb the ladder to the 2nd level of the house and open the chest to receive the Sun Dew, the other item you'll need to use to reach the boss of Wise Owl Forest.
-
Territory 17 BOSS - Master Utan
- Plant the Moon Grass Seed in the patch of soil and use the Sun Dew to make it grow quickly. This becomes stairs that lead to Master Utan.
- Use Goro and Toan to combo Master Utan back down to size. Use Goro and his most powerful weapon to smash Master Utan's feet, then switch to Toan and use a charge attack to whap him on his head. Stamina Potions will work small wonders here for both characters, increasing their speed and power. Switch back to Goro and continue this pattern to bring the ape down.
- When Master Utan spits seeds at you, run towards him and to either the left or right, circling him at close range to avoid the attack.
- CUTSCENE: Master Utan snaps out of his trance and removes the boulder that leads to Brownboo Village, home of the Moon tribe.
- Head to the western part of town, and Toan will be knocked unconscious.
- CUTSCENE: Toan wakes up in dire straits, and attempts to warn the Moon tribe of the Dark Genie. The village Chief gazes into a crystal and sees the Dark Genie, and urges Toan to head to Queens to retrieve the Moon Orb so that Toan can go to the moon, since the Chief's tribe have lost most of their magic.

Chapter Three
- This chapter is centered around the village of Queens, whose only survivor is Rando. The dungeon for this chapter is the Shipwreck, ruled by La Saia.
- You'll use the Hook to progress through the dungeon of Chapter Three.
- Flapping Fish can be used to access the Back Floors of the Shipwreck.
- The Ship Cabin Key is used to open locked doors throughout the dungeon.
-
Queens
- Head towards the faint ship in the distance and you will come across some docks. Meet Rando, the sole survivor and local merchant that'll be stocking your inventory for this chapter.
- Rando will grant you access to the Turtle, a submarine that(not surprisingly) looks like a turtle. You'll use this to gain entrance to the Shipwreck, which is where the Moon Orb, as well as the Atla spheres for Queens, are located. Rando will also inform you that he'll keep you supplied, for a fee.
- After singing praises for freedom of commerce, head to the Turtle to enter the Shipwreck.
-
Enemies
- Auntie Medu: Ice-type enemy, use a Fire-attribute weapon to take her down fast. Be cautious when fighting groups of Aunties.
- Captain: He dodges away from attacks, so circle him and hit him from the side, or dodge his attack and land a counter before he recovers. Level Ruby specifically to fight Captains here.
- Corcea: Use Xiao to attack them after their lunge animation, dodge their attacks and avoid getting too close.
- Cursed Rose: Can inflict Gooey status, and has a close-range melee attack. Use Xiao or Ruby to hit it from a distance. Their Gooey-inducing pollen cloud is easy to dodge.
- Gunny: Giant clam, weak against Fire-attribute weapons. Use Toan with a Fire-attribute weapon and combo him for an easy kill.
- Gyon: Walks softly and carries a big trident. He will charge when you get too close - use that to lure him into attacking, dodge it, and counter-attack. Avoid getting too close to him if other enemies are chasing you.
- Mask of Prajna: Can inflict Poison status. Avoid the poison clouds and combo them into ribbons.
- King Mimic: Similar to the Mimic, use the same tactics. Hold R1 to block, then combo him for an easy win.
- Mimic: Disguised as treasure chests, they attack quickly. Use R1 to block, then combo them into oblivion.
- Pirate's Chariot: Use Xiao to do long-range attacks, and keep moving - he attacks when you pause, and moves when you move. Throw items(like Bombs) work wonders against him as well.
- Sam: Blocks attacks, and will attack with an Ice-attribute attack. Keep slashing away at him, and don't give him the opportunity to hit.
-
Deck 1
- Get situated with using the new key items, like the Hook and the Ship Cabin Key, and continue leveling your weapons. You should have an attack rating of 100+ at this point on every character - if you don't, start leveling. Corceas and Gunnys appear on this level, so it's good for weapon leveling.
- TIP: To continuously level weapons in a certain floor, just kill all the enemies and Mind Connect to exit without wasting Escape Powder. Then, re-enter the same floor and continue fighting. Repeating this will give you some easy levels on your weapons, as long as you keep Repair Powder in your inventory.
-
Deck 3
- Mimics may begin appearing disguised as treasure chests at this point, if they haven't already. When opening chests, you'll hear a "clink" noise - if you don't, hold R1 and beat down the Mimic.
- If you have a Gladius for Toan, you should have it leveled up enough to upgrade it to a Chronicle Sword. If not, make that a priority before advancing any further into the dungeon.
-
Deck 4
- Cursed Roses abound, and they can inflict Gooey status. Soap works to nullify it, or if nothing else, you can use a Throbbing Cherry to switch statuses, and wait for the Freeze to wear off. Never use a Throbbing Cherry without clearing a room of enemies first, or an enemy you could have taken out with ease may kill you.
-
Deck 5
- Limited Zone: You can only control Xiao, meaning there aren't any Atla spheres on this level. If you've been leveling all of your characters evenly, this shouldn't be a problem. Loot the treasure chests, then run around and pick off the enemies until you find the Hook to progress to the next level.
-
Deck 7
- Loot the treasure chests, collect the Atla spheres, and keep mowing a path through the enemies.
- If you've collected the Atla for the Fish Cart, go ahead and place it somewhere in Queens so you can purchase Flapping Fish to enter Back Floors. This works wonders on leveling your weapons and getting some useful items early on. Be sure to purchase the Ice Block to keep the Flapping Fish fresh, otherwise it becomes a Rotten Fish and you can't use it to enter the Back Floor anymore.
-
Deck 8
- You should have all the Atla for King's Hideout at this point. Go ahead and build it somewhere in Queens to trigger an event. During the event, you'll be rewarded by King with a Lamp, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, it'll need a good cleaning. Ruby appears and joins your party. Keep an eye open for Witch Parfait, which will raise her Defense Stat.
- Ruby is a very useful ranged character, and will prove to be more useful than Xiao in more than a few situations. However, it's still important to level your characters evenly.
- After returning to the dungeon, level Ruby on the Back Floors(you did buy some Flapping Fish and Ice Blocks, right?), and proceed only when she's around the same level as your other characters. This will pay off later on.
-
Deck 9
- A Captain, a Pirate's Chariot, and Corcea'll meet you on this floor. Using the strategies listed for them, take out the Pirate's Chariot first, and finish off the other two as you see fit. Make sure you're using Ruby to gain some ABS, and upgrading her weapons accordingly.
- The Hook will be in a chest. Use Ruby to open the door by switching to First Person view(hold R2) and fire the appropriate attribute at the gem by pressing X. For a list of the colors and their attributes, check the Dungeon Obstacles section.
-
Deck 13
- At this point, the Defense rating for each character should be 40+, and each should be doing over 100HP damage with every attack. Since you can buy the Back Floor key for this dungeon, there's no reason not to have everyone leveled to these stats or higher.
- You've probably run across a few Fire Gems by now, keep slotting them in Ruby's weapon and upgrading it. Ruby's weapon is the priority for this dungeon, so make sure most(if not all) the ABS is going to her weapon. When you upgrade her weapon, the Fire Gem attributes will stay, and the slots will be freed up for more Fire Gems.
-
Deck 16
- Begin rebuilding the village of Queens, if you haven't already. Make sure to at least build the Divining House at this point, as you'll need to use it to get to the boss of the Shipwreck.
- When you complete the Divining House, it will trigger an event. Watch the event, then go back for a second reading and choose the third option. Go and snatch up the Music Box Key from Rando's Shop, and watch the ensuing cutscene.
- TIP: Stock up on Cheese and Stamina Potions to keep your characters alive and buffed.
-
Deck 17 BOSS - La Saia
- Collect any remaining Atla spheres, and work your way through the level until you reach the entrance to La Saia's lair. You'll see a Music Box.
- Use the Music Box Key you acquired in Rando's Shop to open the door. Once inside, the battle begins, so make sure you've healed and buffed your characters.
- TIP: If you have any Fire Gems, be sure to equip them on Toan and Ruby's most powerful weapons - La Saia is an Ice-attribute enemy. You can buy Fire Gems from Joker back in Queens once you've completed and placed his Georama piece.
- Use Toan to slash her shield, then switch to Ruby and shoot her with Fire magic(remember to switch Toan and Ruby's weapons to the Fire attribute).
- TIP: You'll have to dodge her Ice attacks or suffer serious damage. If you're having a lot of trouble avoiding the ice blocks, try hiding behind a pillar until La Saia quits casting her attack.
- You'll receive the Moon Orb after defeating La Saia. Head back to Brownboo Village, and watch the ensuing cutscene.
-
Chapter Four
- This chapter is centered around the village of Muska Lacka, home of Ungaga. The dungeon for this chapter is the Sun and Moon Temple, ruled by The King's Curse.
- You'll use the King's Slate to progress through the dungeon of Chapter Four.
- The Secret Path Key can be used to access the Back Floors of the Sun and Moon Temple.
- The Stone Key is used to open locked doors throughout the dungeon.
-
Muska Lacka
- CUTSCENE: Using the Moon Orb, the Moon tribe call a ship to take Toan and his companions to the Moon, but the ship never arrives. The Moon tribe decides to send Toan to the Sun and Moon Temple to find out what happened to the ship. Upon arrival, a warrior named Ungaga, who tells them the Dark Genie has destroyed the village of Muska Lacka and that the Sun and Moon Temple is overrun with monsters, meets Toan and his party. It's now up to Toan to restore the village to its former glory, and to cleanse the temple to find the Moon ship.
- Head straight up the stairs and into the Sun and Moon Temple to begin finding the Atla to restore Muska Lacka.
-
Sun & Moon Temple
Each level of the Sun and Moon Temple is referred to as Level, appropriately enough. You'll use the King's Slate to progress to the next level of the dungeon, and the Secret Path Key to access the Back Floors of each level. The Secret Path Key can be found in chests throughout the Sun and Moon Temple. -
Enemies
- Blue Dragon: Slightly faster and more powerful than the Red Dragon, circle him to avoid his fireballs and attack until he falls. You can also use a ranged character like Xiao or Ruby to take him down with ease.
- Bomber Head: True to their name, they explode when they die, dealing splash damage to anyone too close. Use Ungaga or Goro to melee and follow up with a quick backward dodge to avoid damage - Toan's reach isn't far enough to avoid the explosion. Alternately, you can use Xiao or Ruby to attack from range without fear of their explosive demise.
- Crabby Hermit: They block attacks, so circle and combo them to get past their defenses. You can use a ranged fighter if you let them get close enough that they don't have time to block, as well.
- Dune: They have a shield to block incoming attacks, making melee difficult until you learn their timing. After you do, however, they drop like flies, and using Xiao or Ruby makes defeating them even easier.
- Golem: A slow-moving, slow-attacking monster, combo and retreat to bring him down. He has a ground smash attack that deals splash damage, so be sure to retreat quickly and far enough away to avoid it. Using Xiao or Ruby will demolish him in seconds.
- King Mimic: Similar to the Mimic, use the same tactics. Hold R1 to block, then combo him for an easy win.
- Mimic: Disguised as treasure chests, they attack quickly. Use R1 to block, then combo them into oblivion.
- Mr. Blair: A Fire-attribute enemy, he's completely immune to Fire-attribute attacks, but drops quickly when dealt Ice-attribute damage. Swap your weapon over to Ice and attack him in the side or from behind to cool him off.
- Mummy: Both the easiest and most difficult enemy due to their revive technique, they can resurrect with 1/3 their HP after defeat. Be sure to stick around and make sure they fall before moving on.
- Phantom: Use either Xiao or Ruby to blast it before it gets the chance to attack. If you want to use a melee fighter, wait for it to begin flying upwards, then circle it and combo attack it from behind for an easy victory.
- Steel Giant: A bigger, slower version of the Golem, use the same tactics as the Golem to bring him down. Beware of the ground smash attack's splash damage.
-
Level 5
- Nothing new on this level, keep collecting items and looting treasure chests. Once you've found the Atla spheres, level up your lowest character(s) until they are all even. This dungeon is perfect for leveling your ranged fighters(Xiao and Ruby), but it may cause you to neglect Toan and Goro.
- Keep upgrading your weapons, and changing any unused weapons into Synthspheres to attach to your most powerful current weapon. Leave one lower level weapon to use in an ABS Limited Zone, provided the Limit Zone doesn't keep you from switching to it as well.
-
Level 7
- You may see Crabby Hermits on this level, if not you'll see them beginning the next level. After you leave and return, Level 7 is their stomping ground, so be prepared to deal with them if you leave for supplies.
- Don't forget to build up your Georama pieces while you travel. Some pieces can't be used until the building is placed and you talk to the resident, but most standards(for example, a Lamp for Norune Village) are open as soon as you get the building.
-
Level 8
- You'll face the same monsters here as you have so far in this dungeon. After collecting the Atla spheres, exit the dungeon and beginning rebuilding the village.
- You have to complete the Three Sister's House before continuing further in the Sun and Moon Temple. When you do, an event will be triggered. Watch the event, and Ungaga will join your party. You can feed him Scorpion Jerky to raise his Defense rating.
-
Level 10
- You'll face Dunes for the first time on this level. Their shield is annoying, but not impossible to get through - wait for them to drop it, attack them, and dodge. Repeat this to bring them down with ease. You can also use a ranged fighter to pelt them when they get too close; they won't be fast enough to block.
-
Level 11
- Remember to be prepared for Limited Zones - keep Water on hand for Thirst Zones, a back-up weapon for ABS Zones, and your characters leveled evenly for Character Zones.
- Once you get Ungaga, be sure to level with him as much as possible before going further than Level 12 - leave and work your way back through from Level 1 if you need more time. If you get a Secret Path Key, be sure to level Ungaga on the Back Floors.
-
Level 14
- You'll encounter the Blue Dragon on this level, treat him just like his weaker cousin from Divine Beast Cave and bring him down. Collect the Atla spheres, drink Water when necessary, and keep your characters HP topped off with Cheese or Bread.
- TIP: Never use a high-quality regenerative item when a low or medium-quality one will do. For example, if you're only a little low on HP, use Bread instead of Cheese. Save your high-quality items for when you really need them, like boss fights.
-
Level 17
- After collecting all the Atla spheres on this level, you'll have all the Georama parts you need to piece Muska Lacka back together. Be sure to get 100% in all three of the Georama analysis reports to obtain the Mirage for Ungaga, and a Diamond for upgrading purposes. For help on getting that 100% rating, refer to theMuska Lacka section.
- After you've completed the Chief's house, an event will be triggered. View the event and get the Moon Signet and Sun Signet from Zabo and Enga.
- Return to the Sun and Moon Temple after you restock your supplies, and prepare for a showdown with the boss of this Chapter.
-
Level 18 BOSS The King's Curse
- There are two statues on this level, each with an indentation. Place the Sun and Moon Signets into their appropriate statues to trigger a small cutscene, and get ready to fight.
- TIP: Have Ungaga out before starting this to save yourself a few seconds. Also, decide who your most powerful character is, and switch their weapon attribute to Holy.
- The King's Curse attacks as a human-shaped cloud. Use Ungaga's charge attack to clear through the cloud, dissipating it and revealing a coffin.
- Switch to your most powerful character, and attack the coffin. Be sure to switch your preferred character's weapon attribute to Holy.
- After attacking the coffin, the cloud will reappear. Switch back to Ungaga and continue this pattern to quickly end the battle.
- After defeating the King's Curse, a passageway will open to the Moon Ship. It also leads to your final Duel, so finish it up and be on your way.
-
Chapter Five
- This chapter is centered around the village of Yellow Drops, home of Osmond. The dungeon for this chapter is the Moon Sea, ruled by Minotaur Joe.
- You'll use the Gunpowder to progress through the dungeon of Chapter Five.
- The Bravery Launch can be used to access the Back Floors of the Moon Sea.
- The Handle is used to work the drawbridges throughout the dungeon.
-
Yellow Drops
- CUTSCENE: Toan and his allies will blast off to the Moon, and meet a few members of the Moon tribe that reside there in Yellow Drops.
- After you've regained control, you might notice something strange - Yellow Drops is perfectly intact, unlike the villages in previous chapters. You won't be rebuilding Yellow Drops, but the Sun Giant(a huge robot) instead.
- Familiarize yourself with the layout of Yellow Drops, and find Jive - he's standing in front of the shop you'll be using to restock your supplies during this chapter. The shop belongs to Ledan, who you'll meet soon.
- After you find the shop, head to the big building in the center of town to meet Ledan. He'll inform you that his boss, Osmond, has taken off across the Moon Sea to participate in the Coliseum games, and will show you the entrance to the Moon Sea. After this, he'll be in his shop, which you've already found, so head back to stock up on any necessities.
- HINT: Give the Clay Doll item to Marnia at the end of the path you start on when arriving at Yellow Drops to receive the Sun item, an attachment for your weapon that adds 10 points to Speed, Fire, Ice, Thunder, Wind, and Holy, and 3 points to all anti-monster stats.
-
The Moon Sea
The Moon Sea is divided into Craters, and you need Gunpowder to advance further into this dungeon. You'll use the Bravery Launch to get to the Back Floors, which can be found in treasure chests. Also, there are no walls to divide the sections of each level, so you'll use the Handle to work the drawbridges that replace the locked doors of previous dungeons.- TIP: With no walls to protect you from enemies with long-range attacks, keep on your guard. Be aware that this can work both ways - put Ruby to use putting down enemies from range to give them a taste of their own medicine.
-
Enemies
- Arthur: He has great reach - better than Toan's and Goro's. He's also fast, so in melee use Ungaga, as Toan and Goro will get smacked around before landing a blow. To make the fight easier, use a ranged fighter.
- Crescent Baron: He fires a long-range attack, and has a melee attack ready if you get too close. Dodge his ranged attacks and fire back with Xiao or Ruby to win easily. For a challenge, you can use a melee fighter to dodge his ranged attack, sneak in a few solid hits, and dodge his melee attack.
- Hellpockle: If you can't kill them in two or three hits, you need to level your characters. They tend to fall as fast as you can combo, but if they don't, they'll rush you and slap you with their shovel. Ranged attacks are easier to use to bring them down.
- King Mimic: Similar to the Mimic, use the same tactics. Hold R1 to block, then combo him for an easy win.
- Mimic: Disguised as treasure chests, they attack quickly. Use R1 to block, then combo them into oblivion.
- Moon Bug: Has a cannon for long-range attacks, and can roll like a Rockanoff. Dodge the projectiles and the roll, then slash its side or back to defeat it. Alternately, you can use a ranged fighter to keep it from balling up and rolling at you.
- Moon Digger: The Moon's local variety of Earth Digger, treat it the same way - avoid its attacks and combo it to death, or use a ranged fighter to take it out.
- Space Gyon: Just like the Gyon from the Shipwreck, except it's on the Moon. It can also turn during its charge attack, so melee fighters will get hit from time to time. Avoid the damage by using Xiao or Ruby.
- Titan: Like Golems and Steel Giants, they have a ground smash attack that deals splash damage, so be quick about dodging back from it to a safe point, or use a ranged fighter to take it out without worry.
- Vulcan: Much like Dunes, they carry a shield - seems every enemy of the Moon Sea is a revamped version of a previous enemy. Use the same tactics as you did for Dunes, or use Xiao or Ruby to take him out from far away.
- White Fang: They're Werewolves, only stronger and faster. Your characters should do enough damage at this point to take them down with a quick combo when they get in range.
- Witch Hellza: Just like Witch Illza, only they throw fireballs instead of Poisonous Apples. Teach them the folly of their ways by pelting them with Xiao or Ruby before they get a chance to lob fire at you.
-
Crater 1
- You'll run into Hellpockles, Witch Hellzas, and Moon Bugs right off the bat. Defeating them shouldn't be that difficult, if you've been upgrading your weapons.
- TIP: When upgrading weapons, don't leave Synthspheres in weapons you're about to Status Break. Remove the Synthspheres, Status Break the weapon, and upgrade the Synthspheres into your primary weapon individually - this lets you keep the 60% of the previous weapon's stats. Upgrading the other way will only give you around 40% of the stats.
-
Crater 3
- Mimics may show up on this level, if not you'll start seeing them in Crater 4. Keep a finger ready to press R1 whenever opening chests.
- If you've gained access to a Back Floor, be sure to level like crazy while you can - the enemies are stronger, but you get far better ABS from them, and the treasure chests almost always contain valuable items and weapons.
-
Crater 8
- CUTSCENE: Toan meets Osmond, the leader of Yellow Drops. Osmond transports Toan back to Yellow Drops, and explains a bit about why he wants to participate in the Coliseum games.
- Osmond will join your party. You can feed him Carrot Cookies to raise his Defense rating. Be sure to stop by the shop to pick up a Jackal for Osmond, which can be upgraded to his Ultimate weapon, the Star Breaker.
- TIP: When you return to the Moon Sea, instead of going directly to Crater 8, work your way back through the first seven levels using Osmond to level him up.
- When you arrive in Crater 8, use Osmond to cross the large chasm and activate the exit.
-
Crater 11
- Limited Level: You can only use Osmond, meaning there aren't any Atla spheres on this level. If you've leveled Osmond throughout the Moon Sea after he joined your party, this shouldn't be a problem. If you got the Jackal for Osmond earlier, you should upgrade it to at least a Skunk/G Crusher before continuing to Crater 11 to make life easier.
-
Crater 15 BOSS Minotaur Joe
- Minotaur Joe deals massive damage, but luckily there's a way to defeat him without being hit at all.
- Using a strong character(Osmond is a good choice, provided you've been upgrading his weapon), circle around until a giant barrel is between you and Minotaur Joe.
- Joe will stop to drink from the barrel. Use this pause to attack him. If you're using a melee fighter, land a few hits and dodge away to avoid damage.
- Circle around until you're behind another barrel, and repeat the process. Minotaur Joe should never even get to attack.
- You'll receive the Sun Sphere for defeating Joe, which is the final piece to the Sun Giant. Head back to the Moon Factory and install the Sun Sphere into the chest to raise the giant robot.
- CUTSCENE: Osmond holds a mission briefing, and tells Toan to inform him when he's ready to set out for the Dark Heaven Castle.
- Restock your supplies, and talk to Osmond to begin your trip through the final chapter of the game.
-
Chapter Six
- This chapter is centered around the Dark Heaven Castle. The dungeon for this chapter is the Gallery of Time, ruled by the Dark Genie himself.
- You'll use the Clock Hands to progress through the dungeon of Chapter Six.
- The Flapping Duster can be used to access the Back Floors of the Gallery of Time.
- The Pitch Dark Key is used to open locked doors throughout the dungeon.
-
Dark Heaven Castle
- CUTSCENE: Toan and his companions streak towards the Dark Heaven Castle. The Fairy King and Seda have a discussion that reveals more back story about the Dark Genie, and the Sun Giant is shown fighting against the Dark Genie. After the Sun Giant prevails, General Flag appears and informs everyone that what they had just defeated was a facsimile of the Dark Genie - just a fraction of the Dark Genie's power infused to a mouse. The Dark Genie reveals himself as possessing General Flag, and destroys the Sun Giant, obliterating General Flag's body in the process. The Dark Genie abandons the body and retreats to the sanctity of Dark Heaven Castle. Toan and Osmond reunite with Dran of Norune Village, who takes them to the courtyard of Dark Heaven Castle and talks with Toan about the importance of destroying the Genie in his weakened state. After heading inside, Toan talks with Seda about the origins of the Dark Genie, and Seda unlocks the entrance to the Gallery of Time, asking Toan to recover the fragments of his memories to stop the events that led to the creation of the Dark Genie.
-
Gallery of Time
- Just outside of the Gallery of Time, the Fairy King has set up a shop to keep you fully stocked - everything from healing items to Gems can be purchased, making this a great area for leveling weapons(if for no other reason than to buy the Gems for upgrading). When you're ready, head inside the Gallery of Time.
- In the Gallery of Time, you're not collecting Atla spheres to rebuild a village or a robot; instead, you're collecting the memories of Seda, the gray-haired man you dueled in the Divine Beast Cave. You'll use the Clock Hands to progress through the dungeon, and the Flapping Duster to access the Back Floors. Be warned, the Flapping Duster is extremely rare.
- There's no need to watch the memories as you collect and complete them - you'll view all of them once you reach the end of the dungeon and have collected and completed every memory. Because of this, I'll only be listing the enemies that are found on each level, whether the level is a Limited Zone, and a short comment on how to cope with difficult situations that might crop up.
-
Enemies
- Alexander: Can launch fireballs and fights with a sword and shield. Has a similar attack pattern to the Mask of Prajna(from the Shipwreck). Wait until he lowers his shield, attack and retreat.
- Billy: Mr. Blair's stronger cousin, Billy lacks immunity to Fire-attribute attacks that Mr. Blair had. Use the same tactics against him as Mr. Blair, and he won't be a problem.
- Black Dragon: The pinnacle of all the Dragons you've faced so far, he's faster and stronger than the others, but is still easy to defeat using the same pattern - dodge his fireballs, land a combo, and retreat to dodge his next attack.
- Blizzard: Another Golem update, use the same tactics you used for Golems, Steel Giants, and Titans to punish him.
- Club: A playing card soldier, he's nothing to worry about. Let him get close, block using R1 or dodge, and combo him to shreds.
- Curse Dancer: Their attack is slightly disorienting at first - they get close, then back up, then leap forward to attack. Get their timing down and avoid the attack to make quick work of them. If it takes more than two combos, you need to level some more.
- Dark Flower: Another update to the previous Flower enemies you've faced so far, use the same tactics to uproot them permanently.
- Diamond: Another playing card soldier. You can melee him to ribbons, or blast him from a distance with a ranged fighter. Either way, he goes down quickly and easily.
- Evil Bat: An updated Cave Bat, use the same tactics - a quick charge attack with a melee fighter, or shoot him out of the sky with a ranged fighter. The easiest enemy in Gallery of Time.
- Heart: The playing card soldiers are all similar in tactics, this one just has a long-range attack to annoy you with. Slash him to pieces or defeat him from range with Xiao, Ruby, or Osmond.
- Joker: The Joker playing card soldier, the same as the Club or Diamond - just a weak short-range attack to contend with. Nothing difficult here.
- King Mimic: Similar to the Mimic, use the same tactics. Hold R1 to block, then combo him for an easy win.
- Lich: A stronger version of the Ghost, take him down with a ranged fighter or slash him before he takes to the air for his own attacks.
- Living Armor: Remember the Statues? These are stronger, but they're still slow. Circle and demolish them, they can't stand up to your speed.
- Mimic: Disguised as treasure chests, they attack quickly. Use R1 to block, then combo them into oblivion.
- Rash Dasher: They run right to you, just like the Dasher, so slash him once or twice and he should fall.
- Spade: It's a playing card soldier, which means one thing - he's easy to defeat. Slash him to ribbons, he doesn't have a long-range attack to worry about.
-
- Evil Bats, Curse Dancers, and Dark Flowers appear on this level.
- This level could be a randomized Limited Zone, as could any of the next levels. Only a few are always Limited Zones - they are towards the end of the dungeon.
- Make sure that you're buying Gems and weapon attachments every chance you get - if you haven't upgraded everyone to their Ultimate Weapon by now, you need to level.
-
- Diamonds join the rest of the enemies. They're just as easy as the Clubs and Hearts to defeat.
- Try to avoid taking "cheap" damage when possible - keep your block ready when opening chests, and don't stand in front of the Evil Bats without moving. Use the money you saved to buy Gems and weapon attachments.
-
- Liches appear on this level. They're worth decent ABS, so be sure to level up on them for a while before continuing.
- TIP: When upgrading weapons, always remove valuable attachments like Gems and Synthspheres before changing a weapon into a Synthsphere for upgrading your primary weapon. A Synthsphere is 60% of the stats of the weapon it once was, and if it's attached to a weapon that becomes a Synthsphere, that 60% is depleted again.
-
- This is the last level of the Gallery of Time. You must collect every Georama piece and view all of Seda's memories to access this level. If you've had more than a slight amount of difficulty in getting here, you may want to go back to the Divine Beast Cave and begin working through the dungeons again until you're a higher level. Attack ratings should be around 200+, Magic ratings should be 100+, and your elemental attributes should be high.
- Make sure every character has his Ultimate Weapon, as high a Defense as you can afford, and maxed HP and Thirst meters. Bring as many regenerative items and Repair Powders as you can fit in your inventory.
-
BOSS - The Dark Genie
- There are three phases to the final battle with the Dark Genie.
- Phase One - the Dark Genie will attack with his hands. On the back of each hand is a Gem that tells you what element it is vulnerable to. The color changes when the Dark Genie folds his hands across his chest and draws his wings down. Each hand has a few thousand HP, so be sure to use the appropriate elemental attribute to bring them down quickly. You'll take some damage from an unavoidable and hard-to-see attack, between 20 and 35 HP if you've been leveling your Defense rating.
- TIP: To avoid taking damage during the unavoidable attack, use a Stamina Potion during the attack. You'll be knocked down, but you don't lose any HP.
- Phase Two - With the hands taken care of, the Dark Genie will begin using a large beam attack, switching it up with that "unavoidable" attack from Phase One. Dodge to the side to avoid the large beam attack, use the tip above to avoid damage during his hard-to-see attack, and shoot his head with your strongest ranged fighter. Keep HP regenerative items handy, as well as Repair Powders.
- Phase Three - Once his head is destroyed, the Dark Genie will transform into a giant insect, and summons two henchmen to help him. He will randomly open his mouth throughout the battle, revealing an orb you must destroy to end the battle. If you kill his two henchmen, he'll automatically open his mouth, revealing the orb for you to attack. He has two attacks in this phase - a powerful beam of energy that tracks your character across the screen, and a moving energy wave that travels across the ground.
- To avoid the tracking energy beam, run away from the beam, circling the Genie, and advance towards him as you move. If you do get hit, use your best HP regenerative item - you won't live through two hits in a row.
- TIP: Premium Chicken is a great item to have stored in the Active Items list, and you'll probably need a lot of them.
- The Dark Genie uses his energy wave attack after you hit the orb in his mouth, and it's fairly easy to dodge.
- TIP: Use the Holy attribute for Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the Dark Genie boss battle to inflict more damage for an easier fight.
- Congratulations, you've just completed Dark Cloud. Enjoy the ending cutscenes, and don't forget to save your game after the credits to unlock The Demon Shaft.

Bonus Dungeon - The Demon Shaft
- After the credits roll, save your game. When you next load that save, you'll have access to the Demon Shaft, a 100 level dungeon that has better treasure and tougher enemies than any of the other dungeons. There are no Atla spheres in the Demon Shaft, but you will find lots of great weapons, rare items, and challenging fights. One of Toan's Ultimate weapons, the Chronicle 2, can only be obtained by defeating this dungeon - you can't upgrade anything into it. Below are some tips and tricks to make prevailing in the Demon Shaft a little easier and a lot more fun.
- The Demon Shaft is 100 levels, and the enemies change every 20 levels. New enemies will be added, old enemies will switch their immunities, attributes, and strengths - all of them will be more difficult than anything you faced in the storyline dungeons. Bring lots of HP regeneration items, and as much Water as you can fit, as well as a good bit of Repair Powder. The enemies here will whittle your WHP down far faster than your standard monster.
- TIP: Use Auto Repair Powder on an Active Item slot to reduce worrying about losing an awesome weapon, and save some in-menu time.
- There are no Limited Zones to worry about in the Demon Shaft - only enemies.
- To progress through the Demon Shaft, you'll need to use the Black Knight Crest. To unlock the doors throughout the levels, you'll need the Silver Key, and the Crystal Eye is used to gain access to the Back Floors. Yes, the Demon Shaft has Back Floors, and yes, they are very worthwhile.

Rebuilding the World
- Dungeon crawling is all well and good, but without rebuilding the villages, you'll never gain access to a new dungeon. Provided below are detailed instructions on rebuilding each village to 100% completion, as well as completing all the requests in each village to obtain the 100% rating in all three Georama analysis reports. There is room for modification, as some pieces aren't required to be placed anywhere in particular, as long as they're placed. Instead of listing eight different ways of putting the villages together, I've listed the ones that impact the rating, what they need to be completed, and what their placement requirements are to achieve 100%. Instructions on completing the requests are found after the placement details.

The Gallery of Time
- In the Gallery of Time, you're not building anything physical; rather, you're rebuilding the disjointed fragments of Seda's memories that he locked away in the Gallery of Time. There is no area to "place" the memories - you simply put them together. You also don't get Events like previous towns, but instead view a cutscene of that memory. Therefore, I'm only going to list the Memories you'll collect and what you need to make them whole.
