Introduction
- This guide is a detailed walkthrough for Dark Cloud 2. The dungeons are randomly generated, as are all items and treasure chests located throughout the dungeon. Since no two playthroughs are alike, strategies for defeating the enemies of each dungeon, an Items list, information on how to defeat bosses and sub-bosses, and how to rebuild the world with a 100% completion rating have been provided below. You'll also find detailed Invention help, strategies for fishing, and how best to upgrade weapons, as well as miscellaneous tips and tricks.
-
Dark Cloud 2 General Overview
- HP - Your character's remaining health points. Once this reaches zero, your character faints and can't be used until they are revived or until you leave the dungeon. If both Max and Monica lose their entire HP, it's Game Over, so use health regeneration items like Bread to keep your HP full. You can increase the HP for both characters by using a Fruit of Eden on them.
- Fuel - Steve the Ridepod's HP. Steve is only useable as long as Max's HP isn't zero, as Max has to drive the ridepod. You can replenish Steve's fuel using the Fuel item found in treasure chests within dungeons, as an option when talking to Cedric, as one of Cedric's support powers when he's added to the party, or by buying fuel from Morton's Sundries for 2,000 gilda during and after Chapter Five. Steve's Fuel limit can be upgraded by trading in Ridepod EXP to Cedric for a larger fuel pack, or by Inventing.
- WHP - Weapon Hit Points, these decrease with every connecting attack with melee weapons, and every attack with projectile weapons. Swinging your sword won't decrease its WHP unless it makes contact with an enemy, for example, but firing off rounds from Max's gun will always deplete the WHP, whether it connects or not. You can use Repair Powder to fix melee weapons, Armband Repair Powder to fix Monica's ranged weapon, and Gun Repair Powder to fix Max's sidearm.
- NOTE: Weapons don't break the same in Dark Cloud 2 as they did in Dark Cloud - when your weapon breaks, it simply does a "no effect" when you attack with it until it's repaired, instead of completely disappearing.
- There is no thirst gauge in Dark Cloud 2 - instead, Thirst has been changed to a Status ailment, preventing you from using Food items to replenish HP. For more information on Status effects, see the Status Ailments section.
- ABS - ABS are points needed to upgrade weapons, and are symbolized as little blue stones that drop when you defeat an enemy. Gaining enough ABS will level up your weapon, depending on which weapon was used to defeat the enemy. If a thrown item was used (i.e., Bombs), then the ABS is split between both the projectile and melee weapon. After a weapon levels up, you can Synthesize any spectrumized items into it to increase its abilities. For more information on weapon upgrading, see the Weapon Upgrading section.
- Gilda - the currency format for Dark Cloud 2. You use Gilda (usually shortened to just "G") to buy items, weapons, and such. You gain Gilda by selling items to shops, during certain events, and by defeating enemies. When in a dungeon, Gilda is represented as little gold coins that drop from an enemy when it's defeated.
- TIP: For a trick to make a lot of easy Gilda, see Chapter Three.
- Active Item Slots - Slots that appear above your character. You can equip items to use by pressing Triangle to bring up the Menu. Select the Items menu, highlight the desired item and press X to bring up a list of options - select "Equip" from the options to equip the item to the highlighted Active Item slot. These items can be used during the game by selecting the desired item with the D-Pad and pressing Square. The only way to use the Camera in dungeons is to have it hot keyed to an Active Item slot.
- Status - status ailments are shown as icons below the HP bar. A status may clear up on its own, or require a status negation item to remove it. For more information on status effects, see the Status Ailments section.

- Steve, the Ridepod - Max gains the ability to use Steve the Ridepod during a sub-boss battle in the sewers of Chapter One. Steve is extremely strong, but requires fuel for continuous operation. You can upgrade Steve through Inventing and by exchanging EXP to Cedric for new parts.
- Beast Transformation - During Chapter Two, Monica will gain the ability to transform into a beast form for a certain amount of time. Beast Transformation is explained in further detail in the Beast Transformation section.

Status Ailments
- Status ailments cause a negative effect on a character. For example, a monster may attack and cause the Poison status effect, which drains your character's HP over time. To get rid of a status effect, you must use a status negation item - in the instance of Poison, for example, you would use an Antidote drink. Below is a list of Status ailments, what they cause, and which item(s) remove them. If you are affected by a Status ailment, the appropriate negation item will flash in your Item menu.
- Curse - keeps your character starting at transforming (Max can't pilot Steve the Ridepod, and Monica can't use Beast Transformation) or changing weapons. Use Holy Water to cure it.
- Gooey - makes your character move very slowly, both in walking and attacking. Use a Gooey Peach to remove it.
- Petrification - turns your character to stone, preventing movement. Bad news when surrounded by monsters. Use Medusa's Tears to cure it.
- Poison - depletes your character's HP over time. Drink an Antidote Drink to cure it.
- Stop - temporarily freezes your character in place, preventing movement. Use a Heart-Throb Cherry to remove it.
- Thirst - your character becomes too thirsty to eat anything, preventing the use of HP regeneration items. Drink some Water to get rid of it.
- Pumped Up - temporarily increases your character's speed and power. Monsters don't cast this; rather, you must drink a Stamina Potion.
-
Inventing
Max has the ability to invent things, like new items, weapons, clothing, ridepod parts, and the like. By using the Make menu option (press Triangle to bring up the Main menu, then select "Make" from the list), you can create a plethora of helpful things to aid you in your quest. Below are explanations, tips, and hints on how to Invent like a pro. -
Taking Photos
- Before you can invent anything, you must have a Camera. You receive a Camera from Cedric during Chapter One after a sub-boss fight. Using the Camera, you take pictures of items throughout the world of Dark Cloud 2 that can be used to invent new things. When you take a picture with the Camera, it saves the picture to the Photo Board, which is accessed from the Make menu. Select a "New Invention" ticket, and you'll see the Photo Board with your photos on it. The Photo Board can hold up to 30 pictures at a time. There are three types of pictures - Generic, Invention, and Scoop. For the purposes of Inventing, we'll talk about the Generic and Invention photos.
- Generic photos will always have the name of your current location - if you take a generic photo in Palm Brinks, the photo will be titled "Palm Brinks". You can also tell them from Invention photos by using the "Delete useless photos" command in the Make menu, after selecting a New Invention ticket. If the photo can't be used to invent anything, it will be removed, leaving only the Invention photos.
- Invention photos will have the name of a particular item, not the location. If you take a picture of a tree, for example, and the photo is called "Tree", then you've just taken an Invention photo. Invention photos are accompanied by a "ding ding" sound effect, and have a yellow icon to the left of the name. If, after choosing the "Delete useless photos" option, the photo is still on the Photo Board, it can be used to invent something.
- Once you reach 30 Invention photos, go ahead and add them to your Idea Book using the option just above the Photo Board. This will save them permanently so that you won't ever have to retake an Invention photo. The Idea Book is big enough to hold all possible Invention photos, so don't worry about running out of room.
-
Creating the Invention Card
- Before you can make anything, you have to actually invent it. We'll use the Energy Pack for Steve as an example - you've taken photos of Milk Cans, Pipe, and a Belt, and saved them to your Idea Book. Now, to create the Invention card, which will tell you what items you need and how many to actually make the Invention.
- After selecting a New Invention ticket, select the Idea Book to view all your Invention Photos. Since we're making an Energy Pack, you'd select the Milk Cans, Pipe, and Belt photos to add them to the thought bubble over Max's head. When you've added the three photos (all inventions require three photos), select the "Invent" option, and Max will ponder for a moment before coming up with the Energy Pack invention. This converts the New Invention ticket into an Invention Card, which will have the name of the item you just invented and what items it'll cost to build.
- Once you invent something, you don't have to keep inventing it - it stays saved to its own Invention Card. Since we just invented the Energy Pack, let's take a look at what it'll cost by selecting the Energy Pack invention card - 20 Scraps of Metal, 1 Thick Hide, and 2 Hunks of Copper. Let's move on to Building now, shall we?
-
Building the Invention
- Once you've created the Invention Card, you're given the items it will cost to build the Invention itself - an idea is only an idea until it's built.
- To build an invention, make sure you have the necessary items in your inventory, and select the desired Invention Card - since we're using the Energy Pack as an example, let's say you have the 20 Scraps of Metal, 1 Thick Hide, and 2 Hunks of Copper already in your inventory already.
- Select the Energy Pack card, and a counter at the bottom will display how many of the invention you wish to make - if you have enough items, you can build more than one of the invention at a time. Select the "Build" option, and Max will build the Invention, adding it to the inventory. The items it cost to build will be removed from the inventory, as well. Congratulations, you've successfully built your first Invention!
-
Fishing
- You can fish starting in Chapter Two throughout the rest of the game. You get a Fishing Rod from talking to Norm the Firbit in Great Fish Swamp during the course of the game, who also provides you with Mimi bait. Max is the only character that can fish. The controls for fishing are as follows:
- Square Button - Reel the line quickly
- X Button - Reel the line slowly
- Left Analog Stick - Pull the line
- Circle Button - Exit Fishing Mode
- R2 Button - Use the Zoom view
- L1/R1 Buttons - Rotate the camera
- TIP: Use the analog vibration feature in conjunction with the Zoom view (R2) to make fishing far easier.
-
Fishing 101
- To fish, walk up to a large body of water with the Fishing Pole equipped - if you can fish there, a red "!" symbol will appear over Max's head. Press X to begin fishing.
- There are two indicators that will appear - one vertical, one horizontal. The vertical bar shows your fishing line's resiliency (how apt it is to break), while the horizontal bar shows how far the fish is from you.
- To hook a fish, wait until the bobber goes completely under water, then pull the Left Analog Stick down quickly, "pulling the line" to snag the fish on the hook.
- Tap X repeatedly to reel in the fish, but watch your Line meter (the vertical bar), and only reel when the bar is low, or your line will break.
- You'll see yellow arrows pointing either left or right while reeling in a fish - this means to press the Left Analog Stick in that direction to put slack in the line, keeping the fish from snapping the line and getting away.
- Once the Distance meter (the horizontal bar) reaches 0, you've successfully caught the fish!
-
Fishing Points and Upgrading
When you catch fish, you are given the fish's length (which can be used to earn Medals in dungeons - more about that in the Dungeon Medals section), and how many Fishing Points you earned by catching it.- Fishing Points, or FP, can be used to upgrade your Fishing Pole's attributes to make catching fish easier.
- You must have at least 100 FP to add one attribute point to one of your Fishing Pole's attributes.
- The starting attributes of Max's Fishing Pole are:
- Flight: Affects how far you can cast, starts at 12
- Strength: Affects how large a fish you can catch, starts at 4
- Resilience: Affects how strong your line is, starts at 6
- Grip: Affects how good your grip is, starts at 1
- Luck: Affects all aspects of successfully catching a fish, starts at 2
-
Baits and Lures
Baits and Lures are used to attract fish to catch. There are several types of Baits and Lures.- Bait is lost every time your line snaps, and every time you catch a fish, so you'll want to keep plenty on hand.
- Lures are tools that let you use special items as Bait. You keep lures, unlike Bait, so you can use them over and over. Some fish can only be caught with a Lure.
- NOTE: Bait used on a Lure is still lost.
- Baits available, as well as the stats they raise when training a fish, are:
- Battan: Affects your fish's Tenacity.
- Carrot: Affects your fish's Boost; changes Gender.
- Evy: Affects your fish's Stamina.
- Mimi: Affects your fish's Endurance.
- Minion: Affects your fish's Boost.
- Petite Fish: Affects your fish's Endurance.
- Potato Cake: Affects your fish's Stamina; reduces Weight.
- Prickly: Affects your fish's Tenacity.
- Lures available, as well as how to use them:
- Fork: Move the Left Analog Stick left and right around 3 or 4 times, tap X to reel it in a bit, then repeat.
- Frog: Use like the Fork Lure.
- Minnow: Move the Left Analog Stick left and right twice, then press X to reel it in a bit. Repeat.
- Spinner: Use like the Minnow Lure.
- NOTE: Use the in-game video tutorials to learn more about using Lures to catch fish.
-

Fishing Tournaments
- After completing Chapter Three's Starlight Canyon dungeon, you'll see a cutscene that informs you of the Fishing Tournaments. Mayor Need hosts the tournaments in Palm Brinks every 10 days (in-game time).
- To compete in the Fishing Tournaments, check to see if the Fishing Tournament status indicator is on. If so, move to Palm Brinks, then head to the Police Station and take a right. You'll be prompted to decide whether you want to compete - select "Yes" to begin the Tournament.
- Up to 10 caught fish may participate in the weigh-in, but only the top 3 are selected to be counted towards your score. Rank in first place to receive the Lure Rod, which lets you use Lures to catch fish!
- TIP: You can also invent the Lure Rod if you don't want to participate in the tournaments by using the Fish, Lafrescia Stem, and River photos. The item cost is Rolling Logs x10, Scraps of Metal x10, and Sea Dragon Crystals x3 (750G if you don't already have some of the items).
-
Aquarium Basics
In Chapter Four you'll begin using the Aquarium, which lets you store fish that you've caught while fishing. The Aquarium is broken down into three sections - Recreation, Breeding, and Fighting. There are several things you do with caught fish - breeding, leveling, cooking, and fighting them. The basics for each, as well as tips and tricks, are outlined below for your convenience. -
Getting the Aquarium
In Chapter Four, you'll need to invent an Aquarium to feed fish the Electric Worm. It's storyline; so you can't miss it - you can, however, overlook the photos if you aren't careful. You'll need the Fountain, Window, and Wooden Box photos to invent the Aquarium. The item cost is Rolling Logs x5, Glass Material x5, and Water Element x15. -
Cooking Fish
- Cooking the fish becomes possible once you buy the Cooking Stove from Morton's Sundries in Palm Brinks. You can eat cooked fish to recover HP, but you can't spectralize it.
- Cooking your own fish is a great way to recover HP during the earlier chapters of the game, and it doesn't cost anymore than some Bait, which you can usually obtain from defeated enemies.
- TIP: To save money and stock up on HP regenerating cooked fish early on, fish the pond in Great Fish Swamp for a while, getting Mimi bait from Norm the Firbit when you run out for free.
-
Breeding Fish
- Breeding fish can be very interesting - you can even crossbreed two different kinds of fish to get a completely different fish!
- To breed fish, you need to place two fish of opposite genders in the Aquarium.
- TIP: You can feed a fish the Carrot to change its gender if you only have one gender of fish.
-
Fighting Fish
- Fighting your fish against each other can help to raise their stats without having to feed them Bait (for a list of what Bait raises what stat, refer to the Baits and Lures section).
- To make fish fight, place two fish of the same type and gender in the Aquarium. Using different types against each other may cause one of the fish to die from injuries - if you don't want to flush a bunch of fish down the toilet, be sure to use the same type against itself when fighting.
- TIP: You can place fish to fight while clearing levels in a dungeon. Check back after every level you complete to see how your fish are coming along.
-
Leveling Fish
- When you catch a fish and place them in the Aquarium, they will have their own stats that can be leveled by either fighting them with other fish, or by feeding them Bait (for a list of what Bait raises what stat, refer to the Baits and Lures section). You can view your fish's stats, as well as feed them Bait to level them, by viewing them in the Recreation tank.
- NOTE: You can only feed fish once per view in the Recreation tank.
- Leveling fish will increase their chances of winning during fights and Finny Frenzy races.
-
Finny Frenzy
You can race your fish against other fish by participating in the Finny Frenzy tournaments, which are unlocked during Chapter Four. Winning first place is a recruitment requirement of Olivie, who sells Lures (for more information on Olivie, refer to the Olivie section). Each Finny Frenzy has three races, which consist of two laps. Each race consists of three events, where each fish may participate just once. The events are:- First Heat - You must come in first place to achieve "First Heat".
- Second Heat - you must come in second or better to achieve "Second Heat".
- Finals - You must come in third or better to achieve "Finals".
- To begin racing, talk to the owl to choose what rank you wish to race at - Beginner, Junior, Senior, or Master. Difficulty increases with each rank, but so do the prizes.
- TIP: You can recruit Olivie by winning at Beginner rank - you don't have to be at a specific difficulty to complete her requirements.
- Your fish have a mood that affects their ability to race and fight (viewable from the Recreation tank). The moods are affected by the fish's stats.
- Stats
- Strength: Determines how hard your fish will hit other fish.
- Endurance: Determines your fish's defense, which allows it to sustain more hits.
- Boost: Determines your fish's speed, a must for racing.
- Stamina: Determines how long your fish can maintain before losing speed, great for racing and fighting.
- Tenacity: Determines how calm or reckless your fish is, the higher the better for fighting.
- Moods
- Clownish: Your fish will fool around, which might cost you a race or fight.
- Moody: Your fish cycles through the affects of all the moods, making it unpredictable.
- Reckless: Your fish refuses to pace itself, which might cost you a race or fight.
- Sore Loser: Your fish doesn't care about winning, so for the most part, it won't.
- TIP: Take care of your fish, and raise its stats to improve mood.
-
Spheda
Spheda is another mini-game that is unlocked once you reach Barga's Valley in Chapter Three. It's played a lot like golf - using a club, you hit a Sphere into a Portal. Depending on the color of the Portal as compared to the color of the Sphere, you may need to use a "rebound shot". Let's dive into the basics of Spheda. -
Spheda 101
Basic controls:- X Button - Used to start a swing; tap to determine the power of the shot, then again to determine the accuracy
- Circle Button - Cancel
- Left Analog Stick - Determine the angle of the shot
- Select Button - Opens the Map; useful, as the map shows an angle indication of where the Sphere will go during a bump shot
- Start Button - Pause
- There are two gauges that appear when you begin playing Spheda - a Power indicator(the vertical bar), and an Accuracy indicator(the horizontal bar). These gauges will fill and deplete, so you need to tap the X button to stop them at your desired levels.
- Only Max can play Spheda, only if he has a Spheda club, and only in dungeons with Spheda Medal Conditions after all enemies are defeated - in other words, you'll have to do a little work before you get to play.
- Spheda requires a club for Max to use to hit the Sphere into the Portal, clubs are detailed under Spheda Clubs. The object of the game is to close the Distortion Portal by hitting the Sphere through it - however, only a red Sphere can go through a Blue Distortion Portal, and only a blue Sphere can go through a Red Distortion Portal.
- To change the color of the Sphere, you need to use a "rebound shot", also known as "bumping". Bumping occurs when the Sphere makes contact with another surface before reaching the Distortion Portal. If you aim a red Sphere at a wall, when it hits the wall it will turn blue, and vice versa for blue Spheres. A Sphere that is the same color as the Distortion Portal will be repelled by the Portal, so be sure to use bumping when necessary.
- Hitting the Sphere into water or off-course will automatically forfeit your shot. You're given a limited number of shots, so make each count. The number of available shots depends on how far the Sphere is from the Portal.
- After successfully closing the Distortion Portal, a chest will appear in its place. These are typically rare items and weapons, so always play Spheda when you have the chance. If you replay the Spheda game of a particular floor, you'll get lesser quality items.
-
Advanced Spheda Tactics
- You can also treat Spheda like billiards, in that you can add "English" to the Sphere before you hit it. English is broken into four types - Top Spin, Back Spin, Slice(left), and Hook(right). To do these, after you hit X the first time, you can move the Left Analog Stick to add English. In the lower left corner of the Spheda gauge area, you'll see a globe with a red dot on it - this red dot will move if you follow the above instructions. This is your English Indicator.
- Top Spin: Allows the Sphere to roll forward faster, for longer periods. Place the English Indicator towards the top.
- Back Spin: Slows the Sphere down faster, reducing its rolling distance. Place the English Indicator towards the bottom.
- Slice: Makes the Sphere curve towards the right, useful in getting around obstacles. Place the English Indicator towards the left.
- Hook: Makes the Sphere curve towards the left, useful in getting around obstacles. Place the English Indicator towards the right.
- TIP: You can use more than one type of English at a time; for example, to make a shot curve left and roll forward, place the indicator in the top right corner.
-
Spheda Clubs
There are three basic Spheda clubs, not including the Handy Stick(available at Banga's Treehouse).- Turkey: A good short-range Spheda club, used primarily for "putting" shots.
- Swan: A good medium-range Spheda club, used primarily for "driving" shots.
- Falcon: A good long-range Spheda club, used primarily for long "driving" shots.
- You can upgrade the Spheda clubs into two other specialty Spheda clubs that have enhanced English shots. The only way to obtain them is by taking one of the basic three clubs through Build Ups, or by Inventing them.
- Flamingo: A good medium-range Spheda club that has better curving shots.
- Albatross: A good long-range Spheda club that has better curving shots.
- Each of the five total clubs can be made using the Invention system. Listed below are the photos needed to make each club.
- Turkey - Special Peking Duck, Tree, Windmill Feather
- Swan - Boat, Tree, Tiny Hammer
- Falcon - Hammer, Large Crane, Withered Jurak
- Flamingo - Light of Luna Stone, Palm Tree, Tiny Hammer
- Albatross - Fire Squall, Tree, Geyser

Dungeons Overview
Dungeons work a bit differently in Dark Cloud 2 than they did in Dark Cloud. There are no specialty doors that require a certain character to open, and instead of the Limited Zones from the first Dark Cloud, there are now Seals implemented from time to time. Also, you can now earn medals by completing the Medal Conditions listed in the information box that appears when you highlight the available level of the dungeon, which can be traded in to Mayor Need for specialty clothing items, provided you've recruited him(for information on recruiting Mayor Need, refer to the Mayor Need section). -
Seals
- Seals replace the Limited Zones of the previous Dark Cloud, and work in a far more simplified way. Seals are taken off after the all the enemies on the level are defeated, so later on you can go back and replay the level without the limitations of the Seal.
- Red Seal: Neither Max nor Steve the Ridepod can be used while the Red Seal is in place.
- Blue Seal: Neither Monica nor her Beast Form can be used while the Blue Seal is in place.
- White Seal: You can't use any regenerative items or status negation items.
- TIP: You can still recover your HP during a White Seal level by using the Recovery Spring(if one is available), or by having a weapon with an HP-centric augmentation, like Drain or Heal.
-
Medal Conditions
- When you start a dungeon, you'll see a list of information that appears when you highlight the level before selecting it - these are your Medal Conditions that, if met, will earn you a Medal. Medals can be traded to Mayor Need after you've recruited him for specialty clothing items for Max and Monica. Towards the beginning of the game, you'll see that some of the conditions are "????". This means that you haven't unlocked the ability to earn that medal(i.e., if you haven't earned the Fishing Rod, then all fishing Medal Conditions will be "????" instead). Below are explanations of the Medal Conditions and tips on achieving them. Keep in mind that, after you unlock all the Medal Conditions, you can go back to previous dungeons to earn the medals for conditions that were "????" before.
- Time Limit to Attack and Defeat All Enemies: You have the specified amount of time to defeat all the enemies in the dungeon, which includes the Mimics and King Mimics that may be on that level, making this tricky. You'll only find out if you've completed the condition after you've defeated all the enemies - there is no countdown display available. The easiest way to do this is to upgrade Steve the Ridepod with faster legs or treads, and use him to defeat the enemies with his high Attack rating.
- Spheda: After you unlock the Spheda game, you'll be able to play it in dungeons. Make sure you play it after you defeat all the enemies in that level. For tips and tricks on winning at Spheda, refer to the Spheda section.
- Fishing: After you defeat all the enemies of a level, catch a fish bigger than the size listed in the Medal Conditions to earn the fishing medal for that level. For tips and tricks on catching fish, refer to the Fishing section.
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Without Healing: You can't use any HP regenerative items on Max, Monica, Steve the Ridepod, or Monica's Beast Form. Any NPCs you've recruited with a healing ability also invalidate this condition if you use their healing ability. You can still recover HP from weapons with an HP-centric augmentation, like Drain or Heal.
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Items: You can only use thrown items to defeat the enemies of the level to earn this medal. A righteous pain to perform, make it easier on yourself by stocking up on Bombs or Improved Bombs(the latter of which you can get for free from Erik using his Make Bombs skill). Attacking with any Max's or Monica's melee or ranged weapons, Steve the Ridepod, or Monica's Beast Form will invalidate the Medal Condition.
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using ...: You can only use the specified weapon for attacking. There are multiple versions of this condition, which are: Max's Right-Hand Weapon, Max's Gun, Monica's Sword, Monica's Magic, Steve the Ridepod, and Monica's Beast Transformation. Even though only the last hit with the weapon gains experience and counts as a defeat, attacking with any other weapon than what is listed with still invalidate the Medal Condition(i.e., if the condition is "Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Max's Gun", then all attacks must be from Max's Gun only). Using thrown items will also invalidate the Medal Condition.
- TIP: If you see a Medal Condition for attacking with a weapon that isn't strong enough, go back and level that weapon until you can defeat even the larger enemies in two to three hits. Make sure to carry a lot of Repair Powder for that weapon when you begin trying for that medal - since every attack must come from that weapon, you'll wear out your WHP pretty quickly, which goes double for ranged weapons(they lose WHP whether they make contact or not).
-
Georama Overview
- The Georama system works a bit differently than it did in Dark Cloud - you now have more control over what exactly goes into the town, where the houses are placed, what color they are, and so forth. Instead of finding Atla spheres in the dungeons, you now use Georama Materials as building blocks to create everything from Rivers to Houses to Fences. You earn more items to build by finding Geostones in the dungeons.
- You can build and place items from the Georama menu. To access it, you must first be in a Georama area - you'll see an icon of Carpenterion in the lower left hand corner. Press Select to enter Carpenterion, then Triangle to access the menu. Press Circle to exit the menu, and Select again to exit Carpenterion.
- Georama Materials - these can be found in chests or by defeating enemies in the dungeon - when an enemy drops one, it looks like the Atla sphere from the first Dark Cloud. You can also purchase Georama Materials from Conda in the last car of the train. You use these to build items you need to place in the towns, much like the items you use to make Inventions.
- Geostones - these are egg-shaped crystals that contain a list of items that are specific to that area; Geostones found in Rainbow Butterfly Woods are specific to Sindain, for example. When you find a Geostone, you decrypt its information by returning to the Georama area and entering the Carpenterion(press Select); the information will download and become available in the Georama menu.
-
Georama Menu
- The Georama Menu has an array of options for you to use to rebuild the world, whether you're building a newly-found item or cleaning up something you've placed wrong.
- Build: Allows you to build items you've discovered from Geostones, provided you have enough Georama Materials to cover the item costs.
- Place: Place items you've built in the world. Use L2 and R2 to rotate the item, and X to place the item. Use Circle to undo the placement if you're not happy with it.
- Paint: You can paint certain items, like Houses, different colors. Larger items will require more units of Paint.
- Clean Up: Unhappy with the layout? Did you place something in the wrong spot? Use clean up to remove any items in the Georama area. Cleaning up a painted object will remove paint from it, also.
- Culture: Shows you the total number of Culture Points, or CP, that you've accumulated by completion Georama Conditions, and who's residing in the town you've made.
- Analysis: Shows you the Georama Conditions needed to gain 100% Completion and revive objects/people/places in the Future.
- Polyn: Each Georama area has a Polyn count, which dictates how many items can be placed in that town. Each object has a Polyn amount that must be considered when trying to get 100% Completion.
-
Time Traveling
- Max and Monica can travel through Time Distortion Portals that appear in the Goerama areas by using their Atlamillia stones(Monica's bracelet and Max's pendant). To do this, walk to the Time Distortion Portal and press X. If the portal is red, you'll be heading to the future; if it's blue, you'll be heading to the past.
- Sometimes, when placing objects in the Georama area, you'll receive a message that something has changed in the future. Always be sure to go to the future to find out what's happened, and to check for treasure chests that might have appeared - they're small and red, and contain rare items, like Potato Cake or Fruit of Eden.
- TIP: You can move your character using the Georama view instead of walking from place to place - just press Select to enter Georama view, then move the cursor to the desired location and press Select again. This is faster than walking in the larger Georama areas.
-
Prologue - A Night at the Circus
The Overview of each Chapter is where you'll find the general information - since the majority of the game takes place in a dungeon or arranging a Goerama, the Overview is there as a list of available Idea Photos, Scoops, and HP/Defense-raising items, as well as what Inventions can be made before moving to the next chapter. I note where cutscenes occur and the basic content, but in the interest of keeping the game fun I will not give away story elements unless it's strategically necessary. -
Prologue Overview
CUTSCENE: A red-headed girl is chased by a group of enemies. She takes a sword from a statue, and turns to face her pursuers.- You start off facing the enemies as a practice battle to get you accustomed to combat with Monica. Use Circle to lock on, block their attacks with R1, and attack them with Monica's charge attack(hold down X until she flashes, then release) to make quick work of them.
- TIP: Go ahead and use Monica's ranged attack(hold L1 and tap X) to get used to it. If you hold X for a second before releasing it, it does more damage. This is very useful later.
- CUTSCENE: Max rushes to work, where he and Cedric chat for a bit. Cedric asks Max about his new pendant, then Max has to get to work - he's got a circus to go to later.
- You start the game with the following inventory: Circus Ticket, Medal Holder, Bread, Repair Powder x3, Gun Repair Powder x3, Tasty Water x3, Antidote Drink x2. You'll need to collect a few more things before getting to work repairing that vacuum.
- Get the Wrench from the stand in the lower right room. You'll notice a red "!" symbol appears when you can examine things - examine the stand by pressing X to receive the Wrench. Also check the table with a book on it to receive the Notebook - this holds information on recruiting NPCs later.
- Head back to the vacuum cleaner sitting on the table, and examine it to begin repairs.
- CUTSCENE: Max works on the vacuum for so long he falls asleep, and awakens to find that he's close to being late for the circus. He rushes off, wondering why his alarm clock didn't wake him up.
- Walk forward and talk to the clown at the entrance to the circus tent. He'll ask for your ticket. To show him the ticket, press Square and select the Circus Ticket from your inventory. This is also how keys are used in the dungeons - everything's a learning experience right now. A red-headed kid will steal your ticket...time to go get it back.
- Talk to all the NPCs besides the clown to find out where the red-headed kid went. Continue until you find a cart with balloons on it, and talk to the girl nearby. This triggers a short cutscene.
- CUTSCENE: Max finds and catches the red-headed kid, who apologizes for stealing. Max feels sorry for the kid, and gives them the ticket. The world goes dark except for a light around the child, who gives Max a cryptic speech and disappears, leaving behind the Circus Ticket. When everything returns to normal, Max grabs the ticket.
- Return to the clown and give him the ticket again. You'll be allowed to enter the tent, finally. Yet another cutscene will begin.
- CUTSCENE: Max enters the tent, but can't see what's happening through all the people. He climbs a pole to get a higher view, and overhears Mayor Need talking with Flotsam, the man who runs the circus. Flotsam threatens the mayor and beats him down, then notices Max spying on him. Several clowns are sent after Max, who evades them until finally landing in the center of the tent showground, surrounded by enemy clowns.
- These clowns aren't much of a threat - this is another introductory fight, this time to get you used to Max. The Wrench is now a Battle Wrench, so use it to beat them senseless. Remember to block with R1 and heal if you need to with the Bread in your inventory.
- TIP: Always keep a healing item stored on an Active Item slot. Press Triangle, select the items menu, and select "equip" on the Bread to assign it to an Active Item slot. To use it during gameplay, highlight the slot with the D-Pad, and press Square.
- CUTSCENE: Max will run off from the tent, evading clowns and a large robotic monstrosity that carries Flotsam. Max is saved by Donny, a friend of his, who leads him to the sewers of Palm Brinks. The opening cinematics for the game begin to play.

- NOTE: Special Item Locations in apostrophes("") are levels of the Chapter dungeon. These must be completed to find the item in the Georama area of the Chapter.
- Fruit of Eden: Channel Entrance, "Battle With Rats", cart East of Cedric's Workshop, "Sweet, Scary Treasure Chest"
- Potato Pie: In front of Cedric's Workshop, "Steve's Battle"

Chapter One Overview
- CUTSCENE: Max and Donny talk for a bit, and Max learns more about the sewer system of Palm Brinks. He decides to set off to see the world outside of Palm Brinks, using the sewer tunnels as a means to find his way out.
- You have a chance to take a small break, or you can continue by talking to Donny. First, save your game - walk up to the red sphere and press X to use it.
- TIP: Save your game each chance you get - between the levels of a dungeon, when you see one in town, etc. In an RPG, you can never save too often.
- When you're ready, talk to Donny to receive the Help Receiver, which Donny will contact you on periodically throughout the sewers to give you advice. You'll also get the Classic Gun, giving you a ranged attack. The gun is helpful against flying enemies at this point, and not much else - you'll want to upgrade it as soon as possible.
- TIP: Every time you connect with a swing of the Battle Wrench, it loses WHP. Every time you fire the Classic Gun, you lose WHP, regardless of whether you hit your target, so always make sure to lock on to your enemy with Circle and get within range - if you're too far away, even a locked-on attack may miss.
- Once you receive the Classic Gun and Help Receiver from Donny, head to the ladder and press X. Walk to the door, then hit X again to enter your first dungeon - the Palm Brinks Sewers.
-
Palm Brinks Sewers
- Each dungeon in the game is randomized - chests, items, and the like are always different, so a typical "go left and loot the treasure chest" walkthrough wouldn't work. Instead, I've listed level-by-level information on the enemies that appear, the Medal Conditions of each level, what the Spheda prize is, and some other general notes.
- Level Key: Gate Key
- Locked Door: Channel Key
-
Level 1.1 - To the Outside World
- Enemies: Clown, Froggy, Sewer Rat
- Time Limit to Defeat All Monsters: 02:35
- Spheda Prize: Treasure Chest Key x2
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Without Healing
- The objective of each level of every dungeon in the game is to find the Gate Key, which unlocks the Gate to the next level, until you find the Boss. The Gate Key is always held by a random enemy.
- Donny will call you to give you some advice on how to clear the floor. Be sure to watch the in-game videos about dungeons, if for no other reason than to familiarize yourself with the help feature of the game.
- Keep an eye out for the Froggy - it has an attack that can cause Poison status. Antidote Drinks make it bearable, but watch your supply.
- TIP: Always break every crate, rock, or other throwable object you find in dungeons - some of them have useful items inside.
- Clowns have an annoying ranged attack, so be sure to get in close and whack them before they get the chance to use it.
- For more information about how to defeat a certain enemy, take a look at the Bestiary.
- The Medal Condition about defeating everything without healing shouldn't be a problem - be sure to use your block(R1) judiciously.
-
Level 1.2 - Battle With Rats
- Enemies: Baron Balloon, Bat, Clown, Froggy, Sewer Rat
- Time Limit: 02:40
- Spheda Prize: Diamond x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Items
- As you progress through the dungeon, you'll see a variety of enemies. Synthesizing any items you've Spectrumized helps to even the playing field.
- Flying enemies are what Guns were invented for - shoot the Bats down before they get a chance to nip you.
- To pick up the Crates, hold R1 and press X while standing near them. You can throw the Crate by pressing X again.
- TIP: Smash a Crate on an enemy's head to stun it - stars appear to let you know if the trick worked. If you succeed in stunning an enemy, combo them(press X repeatedly) for a quick and easy win.
-
Level 1.3 - Ghost in the Channel
- Enemies: Baron Balloon, Bat, Nightstalker, Turtle
- Time Limit: 03:00
- Spheda Prize: Improved Bomb x4
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Max's Right-Hand Weapon
- Getting #4 isn't easy, but it is possible at this point - if you're willing to play through levels 1.1 and 1.2 for about an hour.
- Donny gives you another call to let you know how weapons are upgraded in Dark Cloud 2. Again, watch the in-game videos on weapon upgrading.
- TIP: If you have any Synthesis points, try putting some extra Smash points on your weapon - it's very useful against Turtles.
- TIP: Try using the back flip to escape from a situation that could turn nasty. To perform a back flip, while locked-on to an enemy, press the Left Analog Stick down and tap X. This is a great maneuver against the Turtle, who can inflict high damage for this early in the game.
- Nightstalkers can fire homing projectiles at you, and it has a close-range melee that hurts. Upgrade the Cyclone attribute to deal better damage. Use R1 to block the spin, and then beat it down.
- Always explore the level completely, loot all the treasure chests, and kill every enemy to gain levels faster and accumulate items. However, know when to retreat.
-
Level 1.4 - Water Pump Room
- CUTSCENE: Linda, the circus elephant, drops from a pipe in the roof, and Flotsam floats down to ask Max for the pendant. Max refuses, and Flotsam orders Linda to attack.
- There's no way to win this fight - Max can't do any damage to an elephant with just a wrench. Run around for a bit and a cutscene will trigger automatically after a while.
- CUTSCENE: Cedric arrives on the Ridepod, which he's named "Steve". After rescuing Max, Cedric uses Steve to beat Linda down, then makes a hasty retreat to do some repairs on the slightly-malfunctioning Ridepod.
- You're back at Cedric's Workshop. He's going to talk to Mayor Need, and he needs you to build an Energy Pack for Steve. Cedric will give you a Camera, and you'll get some instructions for the Camera and the Make menu. You also get the Inside Scoops Memo, which lets you keep track of Scoops.
- If you want a deeper explanation of the Camera, take a look at the Inventing section.
- To Invent the Energy Pack, you need photos of a Milk Can, Belt, and Pipes. These can be found next to the Bakery Shop(Milk Can), around Officer Blinkhorn's waist at the Police Station(Belt), and on the roof of Cedric's Workshop(Pipes).
- Take the photos back to Cedric, and he'll show you how the Invention system works. Now you need the materials to build what you just invented, so it's time to go to Morton's Sundries. Cedric gives you 350G to buy what you need.
- Buy Scrap of Metal x20, Hunk of Copper x2, and Thick Hide x1. Then, instead of heading back to Cedric, head to the manhole at the right of Cedric's Workshop. Enter it to visit with Donny, get some Scoops, and grab the Fruit of Eden from the chest there. This adds 8 points to Max's total HP.
- Now head back to Cedric, and go through the process of building the Energy Pack. You can either head straight back to the fight with Linda, or take some time to go through town and take photos. I'd suggest taking the photos(refer to the Photos section for a list of what photos are available in Chapter One), then heading back to fight Linda.
- TIP: If you've gained enough money from your short trip through the dungeon so far, buy some restorative items(Bread, Tasty Water) and some Repair Powder and Gun Repair Powder to keep your inventory stocked.
-
Level 1.4 - Water Pump Room (Revisited)
CUTSCENE: Max returns to the Water Pump Room, and refuses to give Flotsam his pendant again. This time, however, Max has the Ridepod, Steve.- Sub-Boss: Linda
- You start as Max riding the Ridepod. Hit R3 to switch to Max, then take a picture of Linda standing on her hind legs in preparation to smash you. Once you get it, you've completed the "Brave Little Linda" Scoop - this is the only chance you have to get it. Switch back to the Ridepod and wail on her until she falls, then switch back to Max again(conserve Ridepod fuel whenever possible) and head towards the exit.
- You'll be using the Ridepod on a few of the upcoming enemies, so use this battle to get comfortable with the timing.
-
Level 1.5 - Steve's Battle
- Enemies: Bat, Clown, Mimic, Nightstalker, Vanguard
- Time Limit: 02:45
- Spheda Prize: Level-Up Powder x2
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies using Only Ridepod
- Instead of just using the Ridepod against the large enemies, for this level, use it against everyone to complete the Medal Condition.
- TIP: You can swap between Max and Steve the Ridepod by pressing R3(pressing the Right Analog Stick in). To conserve Steve's fuel, walk as Max, and when you need to fight, switch to Steve. Be sure not to attack as Max even once, or you invalidate the Medal Condition.
- TIP: Smash every Crate you see - it might have Ridepod Fuel in it, which will keep you from having to leave the floor to see Cedric for fuel. If you leave, when you return the enemies will have respawned.
-
Level 1.6 - Sweet, Scary Treasure Chest
- Enemies: Darkness, Froggy, King Mimic, Mimic
- Time Limit: 02:30
- Spheda Prize: Treasure Chest Key x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Max's Right-Hand Weapon
- Be forewarned - the chests begin to diversify at this point. You might get an empty chest, a trapped chest, a chest with a Clown that gives you a choice between two presents, or a Mimic. If you run into a King Mimic, switch to the Ridepod(unless you're trying for the Medal Condition).
- TIP: It's possible to attack as Max, and take damage as the Ridepod. When you see an enemy attack and you know you're about to take damage, hit R3 quickly to switch characters. Be careful not to do this unless you know you can't avoid the damage. This is useful if you're attempting a Medal Condition with a weak weapon, or if you can't heal.
- When you beat this level, exit and go back to Cedric's Workshop to refuel and repair. At the entrance to the Workshop you can find a chest with Potato Pie in it - it raises Max's Defense rating by 4 points. Head to the left of the save point to find another chest with a Fruit of Eden near the wood crates. The next level is a boss fight, so stock up on HP recovery items.
- When you're ready, head back to the dungeon and go to the last level.
-
Level 1.7 - Underground Sewers Reservoir
CUTSCENE: Max enters the room and is shocked into awe at the sight of Halloween, the giant mechanical clown/spider that Flotsam controls. Max readies for a fight, much to Flotsam's chagrin.- Boss: Halloween
- First things first, get the Scoop. To get it, switch to Max. When Halloween fires the red missiles from its nose, take a picture of it to get the Scoop.
- Halloween fires off red bombs that can be thrown back at it(hold R1 and press X). If you can hit it with one, Halloween becomes stunned - switch to the Ridepod and melee away. Avoid its jumping attack, and the close-range shockwave attack it performs.
- If enough time passes, Halloween releases Flotsam Balloon, which is considered its own enemy, with an HP and Rage meter. Beat these with Max.
- Halloween will eventually fall, blowing up.
- CUTSCENE: Max boards the Blackstone One train, joining Cedric, Borneo, and Erik on a trip to the outside world. A noise alerts Cedric, who asks Max to investigate.
-
Level 1.8 - Channel Reservoir
- Make sure to save your game before you head up the ladder to investigate - there's a boss battle coming up, and while it's an easy one, it's good practice to save your game often.
- Boss: Flotsam's Armed ATV P-3000
- Cedric provides Bombs for you to throw at the ATV. Pick them up(hold R1 and tap X) and throw them at the ATV. It moves from the right side of the train to the left side, and back again, so be sure to watch your timing, or you'll just waste the Bomb.
- You won't be hit during this boss battle, but the train will - if Blackstone One's HP drops to zero, it's game over.
- After three direct hits to the ATV, it'll blow up, throwing Flotsam onto the train itself. An interesting cutscene will play, and suddenly Monica will join your party.

Chapter Two Overview
- First things first, get accustomed to switching between Max and Monica. You can't switch directly from Monica to the Ridepod - you have to switch to Max first. You use the L3 Button to switch between Max and Monica, and the R3 button to switch from Max to the Ridepod and back. When you unlock Monica's Beast Transformation, you'll use R3 while she's selected to go into Beast Form, as well. Think of L3 as your "Main Character" button, and R3 as your "Sub Character" button.
- Watch any in-game videos you might have unlocked in the Help Menu before continuing.
- Head towards the path away from the train, and use the Save Point. Then, head down the path into Sindain proper. Walk up to the house and a cutscene starts. It's the first of many.
- CUTSCENE: Max and Monica and introduced to Firbits. After Monica is accidentally rude, the Firbit runs inside, refusing to talk or help. Monica thinks up a plan to use Grape Juice to lure the Firbit into helping. After gaining access to the house, Max and Monica learn about a woman named Holly, and how four other Firbits have gone missing looking for her, from Conda, the Firbit leader. Before the Firbits can help Max to rebuild the world, they need their friends to be saved.
- Well, you've got your orders - find the four missing Firbits using the Grape Juice you received from Conda, and keep an eye out for Holly. Time to head to Rainbow Butterfly Woods.
-
Level 2.1 - Frightening Forest
- Enemies: Himarra, Man-Eating Grass, Skeleton Soldier
- Time Limit: 04:45
- Fishing Goal: 70 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Treasure Chest Key x3
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Monica's Sword
- If you've got the points, add some Exorcism to your weapons - it makes fighting the Skeleton Soldiers easier. Also, use Monica for a bit to help level her up to where Max is.
- Man-Eating Grass and Himarra have attacks that can cause a status ailment - usually Poison. Be careful when fighting them from a distance.
- TIP: To make Man-Eating Grass go down without a fight, use Monica's long-range attack from a distance. Be sure to charge it for a second before releasing to increase the damage it deals.
- TIP: If you're purchasing all your Ridepod upgrades from Cedric, be sure to at least upgrade to the Barrel Cannon for this dungeon - it comes in handy, and it's cheap at 600 EXP.
-
Level 2.2 - Strange Tree
- Enemies: Kotore, Moler, Pumpkinhead, Tore
- Time Limit: 04:28
- Fishing Goal: 65 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Resurrection Powder x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Items
- The easiest way to do the "Items" Medal Condition is to have Erik make you Improved Bombs, then waiting for him to rest and repeating until you have about 20 Improved Bombs. If you're not concerned with the "Items" condition right now, continue using Monica to level up both her Sword and her Brassard - you'll want to Build Up to the Bandit Brassard as soon as
possible to build up your inventory.
- CUTSCENE: Monica will grant Max an extra six Synthesis points on his Battle Wrench, and give him Hunter Crystal x2, Destruction Crystal x2, Wind Crystal x1, and Sea Dragon Crystal x1.
- Tore are huge, and meant for the Ridepod. If you have a little patience, though, you can take one down using Monica's long-range attack - it'll cost you a ton of Armband Repair Powder, though.
- Kotore are explosive - use your long-range weapon to take them down to avoid the splash damage.
- You can absorb Pumpkinhead's long-range Fire attack with Monica's absorption sword.
- TIP: Contrary to popular belief, you can hit Molers while they're underground - you can't lock-on, but if can combo their dirt mound, they die without having the chance to attack.
- TIP: Add Smash to your equipped weapons for both Max and Monica - you'll be facing some shelled enemies later on that require it for heavy damage against them.
-
Level 2.3 - Rolling Shells
- Enemies: Himarra, Man-Eating Grass, Skeleton Soldier, Tortoise
- Time Limit: 04:30
- Fishing Goal: 46 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Stamina Drink x3
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Monica's Magic
- There's a Red Seal on this level, meaning you can only use Monica - neither Max nor the Ridepod are available. After you defeat all the enemies, the seal will be broken and you can come back and replay the level with Max and the Ridepod.
- The Tortoise is a heavy hitter with a thick Defense - adding Smash to your weapons will help to negate the Defense rating. Use the back flip(hold the Left Analog Stick down and press X while locked-on) to escape from sticky situations when fighting the Tortoise, and he drops easily.
- TIP: If you want to go ahead and grab the "Magic" Medal Condition, you'll need to level Monica's Brassard - go for heavy Smash attributes to help against the high Defense enemies, with some Exorcism and Cyclone attributes to even it out.
-
Level 2.4 - Great Fish Swamp
There aren't any enemies in Great Fish Swamp - However, you do need to do a few things.- First, you'll see the Firbits, talk to the one that's fishing - he won't leave his friends there, and they don't want to go with you. Trade the Grape Juice for the Fishing Rod, and he'll explain a little bit about fishing and give you some Mimi bait. Head North and go over the bridge, then left and take a picture of Master Utan to complete a Scoop.
- Talk to Master Utan - he's feeling pretty bad for eating the "Forbidden Fruit", which turns out to be Poison Apples. He'll talk to you about why the Firbits are acting strange - the "Holy One" has put a curse on them. You'll need to talk to the Holy One to figure out what's going on. Exit the area with Master Utan.
- CUTSCENE: Monica suggests that Max fish for the "Holy One", so that the two of them can talk to him about letting the Firbits go. Monica informs Max that the "Holy One" likes Poison Apples.
- Equip a Poison Apple to the Fishing Rod and fish in the big lake. You'll see a red "!" symbol. Hit X, and another cutscene takes place.
- CUTSCENE: The "Holy One", which is King Mardan, surfaces. Max and Monica ask him to release his hold of the Firbits, but King Mardan needs some help as well - it seems he's dirty, and only a Priscleen fish can clean him.
- Before you leave the area, take a photo of King Mardan to complete his Scoop. This is the only chance you'll get to take the photo.
- Head back to the area with the Firbits, and using a Mimi bait, fish until you catch a Priscleen. For helpful fishing hints, refer to the Fishing section. Once you catch a Priscleen(size doesn't matter), head back to King Mardan and give it to him.
- CUTSCENE: King Mardan finally has a Priscleen companion - he releases his hold on the Firbits, and they return to normal, willing to head back to Sindain with Max and Monica.
- Head back to Sindain at this point to get a few things done.
- YouTube: Flight - Dark Cloud 2 "Priscleen Fish?" (Time: 8:12)
-
Back in Sindain...
- Head to the Firbits house for a cutscene explaining more back story on Holly and the Rainbow Butterfly. Your goal will now be to save Holly. Also, since you've rescued the Firbits, they hold up their end of the bargain by bringing out Carpenterion, the device you'll be using to complete Georamas throughout the game.
- Take note of the Time Portal in the corner by the Withered Jurak - you'll be using the Time Portal quite a bit. Head through it now and collect a Fruit of Eden and Potato Pie from the chests. Chat with the Firbit in the future, if you like, then head back.
- It's time to head back to Rainbow Butterfly Woods - stock up on HP restoration items, and upgrade your weapons if you haven't been doing so.
-
Level 2.5 - This is a Geostone?
- Enemies: Face of Prajna, Mimic, Moler, Pumpkinhead
- Time Limit: 05:00
- Fishing Goal: 50 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Level-Up Powder x2
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Ridepod
- This level holds your first Geostone - an egg-shaped rock that contains information on how to build objects for the Georama. From this point forward, if a level contains a Geostone, the Geostone information will be listed along with the information above.
- Geostone Objects: Wooden House, Iron Chimney, Thorn Tree, Wooden Stand, Wooden Stairs, River
- Geostone Conditions: Forest Lake Restored, Glowing Mushrooms
- You'll finally be able to see the Fishing Goal for each level, as well as earn medals for completing them. If you want, you can take a break from the main quest to go back and earn fishing medals from previous levels of this dungeon.
- Chests will begin to contain Georama Materials more often, and enemies will start dropping more Georama Materials than before(the icon for it is a small Atla sphere).
- To help in finding the Geostone in every level, collect the Map as soon as possible - the Geostone is marked as a purple dot.
- Face of Prajna isn't that difficult - you can get in close and combo it at this point, so long as you've been building up your weapons. If you're going for the "Ridepod" Medal Condition, it's a snap.
- Molers are difficult to hit with the Ridepod due to their burrowing - however, you can hit them while they're underground if you attack the dirt mound they make while burrowing. You can't lock-on to it, though, which makes it harder to do.
- When you collect the Geostone, head back to Sindain to learn more about how to use the Georama system in Dark Cloud 2. When you're finished, return to the dungeon and head for level 2.6.
-
Level 2.6 - Noise in the Forest
- Enemies: Fire Element, Himarra, Kotore, Sonic Bomber, Tore
- Time Limit: 04:10
- Fishing Goal: 60 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Stamina Drink x2
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Max's Gun
- Geostone Objects: Eye Tree 1, Eye Tree 2, Nose Tree
- Geostone Conditions: Restoring the Withered Tree
- You'll run across the Sonic Bomber in this level - a giant robot that's designed to be fought with the Ridepod. If you're trying to get the "Max's Gun" Medal Condition, this guy will give you the most trouble(followed closely by Tore). If you really have to have it, you can level in the Sewers dungeon in Palm Brinks or the previous levels here, but you'd be better off waiting until you get further into the game.
- TIP: Fire Elements shoot a ton of fireballs - don't forget that Monica can absorb them with her sword.
-
Level 2.7 - I am a Pixie
- Enemies: Face of Prajna, King Mimic, Mimic, Pixie, Pumpkinhead
- Time Limit: 04:16
- Fishing Goal: 66 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Armband Repair Powder x4
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Monica's Left-Hand Weapon
- Geostone Objects: Straw House, Shed, Rough Wooden Fence, Bench
- Geostone Conditions: Tailor Shop Opened in Future
- There's a Blue Seal on this level, meaning you can only use Max and the Ridepod- Monica isn't available. After you defeat all the enemies, the seal will be broken and you can come back and replay the level with Monica to win the "Monica" Medal Condition.
- TIP: Pixie is introduced, and it basically attacks like the Fire Element you've already fought. Defeat it the same way for a quick win.
-
Level 2.8 - Legendary Killer Snake
- Enemies: Fire Element, Gyuro, Ice Element, Killer Snake, Sonic Bomber
- Time Limit: 04:40
- Fishing Goal: 49 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Gun Repair Powder x4
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Ridepod
- Geostone Objects: Pot, Cart, Wooden Bridge
- Geostone Conditions: Place 15 units of River for Forest Lake, Gordon resides in Sindain, Opening of the Eatery(future), Aunt Polly resides in Sindain, Opening of Weapon Shop(future), Milane resides in Sindain
- This is the beginning of the dungeon's forked path - there's two paths that lead from this level. One, the Star path, is blocked until certain conditions are met; you'll be following the Sun path for now until the conditions are completed.
- Ice Elements are dealt with the same way you've been using on the Fire Elements.
- Killer Snake, an homage to a mini-boss in Dark Cloud, can cause Poison status - the Ridepod, on the other hand, can defeat it with ease. If you're trying for the "Ridepod" Medal Condition, this should be second nature.
- Several Georama Conditions are unlocked by collecting the Geostone in this level, which means you'll need to do some recruiting to complete them to 100%. For information on recruiting, check the Recruitable Characters section.
-
Level 2.9 - Grotesque Spider Lady
- Enemies: Hunter Fox, King Mimic, Spider Lady, Tigriff
- Time Limit: 04:26
- Fishing Goal: 50 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Gift Capsule x3
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Without Healing
- Geostone Objects: Pot Torch, Wooden Gate, Watermill
- Geostone Conditions: 10 or more Trees must be placed, Place the Nose Tree between the two Eye Trees, Adel resides in Sindain, Making Jurak's Branch
- Tigriff is your biggest problem in this level - a giant bird that is tough without using the Ridepod unless you've upgraded your weapons with a lot of Beast attribute.
- Spider Lady can cause Curse status, but isn't a big threat - whack her with combos until she dies.
- TIP: Circling Tigriff with the Ridepod and the Spider Lady with Max/Monica makes defeating them easier - they have to turn to attack, giving you a time advantage.
-
Level 2.10 - Rainbow Falls Entrance
- Enemies: Gyuro, Hunter Fox, Sonic Bomber, Tigriff
- Time Limit: 04:00
- Fishing Goal: 68 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Treasure Chest Key x3
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Monica's Sword
- Geostone Objects: Fruit Tree, Hill
- Geostone Conditions: Revive Elder Jurak, Restore Jurak's Branch, Place a River around the three Jurak Trees(Eye Tree 1, Eye Tree 2, Nose Tree)
- The enemies here are to provide you with a little fun before you head back out to do some Georama arranging - snatch up that Geostone and defeat the enemies, then head back to Sindain.
-
Back in Sindain...Again...
Now that you're back in Sindain, you need to complete some Georama Conditions so you can get the Lafrescia Seed and the Floral Badge. You need the Floral Badge to get the Sun Drops from a Himarra - the Lafrescia Seed and the Sun Drops are necessary to get the Rainbow Butterfly to appear. You also need to get someone who "knows about Trees...", which would be Gordon. Prepare to do some recruiting(for information on how to recruit characters, refer to the Recruitable Characters section).- Recruit Gordon back in Palm Brinks(use the Move option in the menu to get there and back after you've recruited him).
- To restore the Forest Lake, make a 5x3 grid of River pieces in the center of Sindain. Head to the future to grab a Fruit of Eden, Witch's Parfait, and a Potato Pie.
- To restore the Glowing Mushrooms, you need to plant ten trees. They can be anywhere. Head to the future to grab a chest near the mushrooms that has Wind Crystal x4.
- To restore the Withered Tree, place the two Eye Trees and the Nose Tree near the lake so that the Nose Tree is between the two Eye Trees, and surround them with a River. Head to the future to grab two Fruit of Eden and a Witch's Parfait. Your characters should be leveling in HP and Defense quite nicely.
- To revive Elder Jurak, you need to restore the Withered Tree and the Forest Lake, and Gordon needs to live in Sindain. Two of those conditions are complete, so let's get Gordon settled in - build a Wooden House or Straw Hut(Straw Huts are more expensive), and place it on a Hill near a Tree. Leave the Carpenterion, and attempt to go into this house. When the option to move people in appears, move in Gordon.
- Head to the future for a cutscene with the Elder Jurak, newly revived.
- CUTSCENE: Elder Jurak gives Max and Monica some information about the evil Emperor Griffon, then tells them about the Rainbow Butterfly. It seems Max must plant the Lafrescia Seed and make it bloom with the Sun Drops, which Max and Monica can get from talking to a Himarra...but how?
- When you leave the future, go back to Palm Brinks using the Move command and recruit Adel. She prefers to live in a Straw House, so go ahead and make one for her, and move her in like you did with Gordon.
- To restore the Tailor Shop, Elder Jurak must be revived, Adel must reside in Sindain, and you need 30 Culture Points, or CP. The first two are done, so to get the 30 CP, you need to build Fences, extra Houses, Paint the Houses, etc. Basically spiffy up the town of Sindain until you have the 30 CP. Then head to the future to the now-restored Tailor Shop and buy the Floral Badge(500G). Monica can now transform into a Himarra...
- Head back into the Rainbow Butterfly Woods, to level 2.1, 2.2, or 2.6, and transform into a Himarra(as Monica, press R3). Then have a chat with an enemy Himarra to obtain the Sun Drops. You can now go to level 2.11 - Rainbow Falls.
-
Level 2.11 - Rainbow Falls
- There's a pond in the center of the level - drop the Lafrescia Seed and Sun Drops into it to form the Lafrescia Flower. Take a photo of it from below to obtain the "Lafrescia Stem" Scoop.
- TIP: If you don't have any status-negation items, like a Heart-Throb Cherry or Antidote Drinks, now's a good time to go stock up before proceeding.
- When you're ready, examine the "!" to trigger a cutscene.
- CUTSCENE: The Rainbow Butterfly appears - and attacks! Max and Monica are forced into a fight against the legendary creature.
- Boss: The Rainbow Butterfly
- The Rainbow Butterfly can't be damaged in its large form. You must first hit the Lafrescia Flower's tendrils, and they'll raise up.
- When the tendrils are all raised, the Rainbow Butterfly splits into seven differently colored butterflies, that perch on the ends of the petals.
- TIP: See that rainbow nearby? Use the order of the colors of that rainbow to attack the butterflies, or else you'll just be wasting time.
- To attack the small butterflies, you need to sneak up on them - running noises, Gun shots, and Sword slash noise puts them on their guard.
- The butterflies will fly back over the center of the flower(where the tendrils are) and reform into the Rainbow Butterfly. Take a photo of this happening to complete a Scoop - this is a rare photo, and this is the only chance you'll get to collect it.
- Once you defeat the last butterfly, another cutscene is triggered.
- CUTSCENE: The Rainbow Butterfly is defeated - but Holly can't return to her Firbit companions. Holly gives Monica a Teal Envelope to give to her friends back in Sindain.
- Head back, and another cutscene will play - the Firbits learn of what's happened. How sad.
- Now head to Elder Jurak, and he'll tell you of a great sage named Crest. He lives in Balance Valley, at Starlight Temple, but there's a problem - his origin point was also destroyed. You'll need to help to restore it if you want to meet him.
- At this point, you can either go talk to Cedric to head to Balance Valley, or you can complete the Georama for Sindain to 100% completion.
-
Sindain Georama
- Since you always have to do some work on the Georama during the dungeon-crawling experience, the steps listed under the "Georama" sections for each Chapter are what's left to complete the Georama to 100% - it doesn't relist all the other things you've already done. The prize for 100% completion in Sindain is the Jurak Gun for Max, which is pretty good.
- To restore the Eatery, recruit Aunt Polly(for help recruiting her, check the Recruitable Characters section). Build her a Wooden House, and move her in. You'll need to gain 40 CP - do this however you like. I'd recommend placing some Fence, Painting, building a Watermill near the lake you made earlier, and placing some Pots, a Cart, and some Sheds on the Houses. Whatever extra little thing you can do.
- To restore Elder Jurak's Branch, place a Fence around the Firbits house, and use a Wooden Gate so you can still get inside of it. You'll use a lot of Rolling Logs, so if you need more Georama Materials, don't forget that Conda sells them in the last car of the train.
- To restore the Golden Eggs, you need to have someone in a Straw House, and Jurak's Branch must be restored. If you've been following along, this is already complete, so go examine the Golden Eggs to obtain the Golden Paint. This is an item needed to recruit Parn, so go recruit him(you'll get Julia as well). Take a photo of the Golden Egg to complete a Scoop.
- To restore the Weapon Shop, you need to have Elder Jurak revived, Elder Jurak's Branch restored, 50 CP, and Milane must reside in Sindain. Go recruit Milane, and place her in a Wooden House. Make sure her house is near the other Houses you've built - she likes company. Gain the 50 CP in the usual way - build extra stuff, paint everything. Head to the future to talk with Jurak and receive the Jurak Gun, and also to grab a chest near the ladder to the Eatery that has a Garnet Jewel. Congratulations - Sindain is 100% complete!
-
Chapter Three - The Sage of the Stars
Chapter Three is all about Balance Valley, which you'll need to pay special attention to when you go to complete the Georama - each of the plateaus you're building on must be balanced. If you look at the objects your placing, you'll notice each has a designated weight - use that to help(the guide has all the major objects listed for 100% completion, but Fences and other knick-knacks that you place to earn CP must also be balanced).- Photos:

chapter Three Overview
When you arrive, move across the bridge and go left of the station house to the plateau. Enter the house in the area to trigger a cutscene.- CUTSCENE: Max and Monica find an owl caring for a sick girl. Max mentions that a doctor lives in Palm Brinks, and promises to fetch him to help the little girl.
- First things first - use the Move command in the menu to head back to Palm Brinks and recruit Doctor Dell, then return to the house. The good doctor's at a loss, though - he can't help the girl. Monica will mention a man named Lao Chao, who stays at Starlight Temple's "Lao Chao's Bistro" who could make a 'miracle dish' to help cure the girl.
- When you're ready, go ahead and head North of the Save Point in the area(use the Georama mode to move around the plateaus) to enter Starlight Canyon.
-
Level 3.1 - Headlong Dash
- Enemies: Masked Tribesman, Ram, Smiling Fairy
- Time Limit: 07:00
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Ruby x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Ridepod
- Geostone Objects: Brick House
- Geostone Conditions: All four Plateaus must be equal height
- The enemies here will be stronger than what you've previously faced - you might want to go ahead and complete the "Ridepod" Medal Condition before attempting to level Max and Monica here.
- Masked Tribesman are tough, but if you can circle them and hit them with a charge attack at the rear, they'll drop easily enough.
- TIP: Throwing rocks at the Masked Tribesman doesn't help much - he rarely gets stunned.
-
Level 3.2 - Fire and Ice Don't Mix
- Enemies: Elfas, Fire Gemron, Ice Gemron, Masked Tribesman, Ram
- Time Limit: 06:30
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Level-Up Powder x2
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Monster
- Geostone Objects: Chinese Stand, Weather Vane
- Geostone Conditions: Restore Lower Prayer Site, 15 trees must be planted
- CUTSCENE: Max will recall how his mother treated him for a sickness when he was younger.
- New additions to the enemy roster include the Fire and Ice Gemron, both of which are flying enemies - you'll need some good elemental ranged weapons to deal with them. If you've been slacking on upgrading or performing Build Ups on your Guns/Armbands, you'll run into some trouble here.
- Elfas are an enemy designed to be fought with the Ridepod - completing the "Monster" Medal Condition(attacking and defeating all enemies using only Monica's Beast Form) may be a bit difficult unless you've been grinding for levels.
-
Level 3.3 - Earth Shaking Demon
- Enemies: Dog Statue, Golem, Mimic, Smiling Fairy
- Time Limit: 07:15
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Amethyst x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Items
- Geostone Objects: Brick Chimney, Warehouse
- Geostone Conditions: Restore the Starlight Temple, Restore the Sacred Gate
- You're going to go up against a few Rock-type monsters - the Ridepod is the preferred method of destruction. Use the Barrel Cannon(which is the least weapon you should have equipped on it by now) against the enemies from range to deal massive damage from a safe distance.
-
Level 3.4 - Power Yo-Yo Robot
- Enemies: Thunder Gemron, Wind Gemron, Yo-Yo Barrel
- Time Limit: 07:40
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Topaz x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Max's Right-Hand Weapon
- Geostone Objects: Iron Fence
- Geostone Conditions: Restore Crystal Prayer Site, Crystal Prayer Site Must be Restored
- Thunder and Wind Gemrons begin to round out the Gemron types you'll encounter in this dungeon. Use their opposing elements against them with an upgraded ranged weapon to clear them out.
- TIP: Begin leveling Monica, unless she's the only character you've been using since she joined the party. You'll need her strong and buffed for the next level of this dungeon.
-
Level 3.5 - Elephant Army in Valley
- Enemies: Elfas, Golem, Holy Gemron
- Time Limit: 08:00
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Stamina Drink x4
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Monster
- Geostone Objects: Wooden Fence
- Geostone Conditions: 15 Trees must be planted, Restore the Sacred Torch, Restore the Tool Shop
- There's a Red Seal on this level, meaning you can't use Max or Steve the Ridepod. Hopefully you've been building Monica up. Upgrade Monica's current weapons with Beast, Smash, and Exorcism attributes to help against the enemy types encountered here.
- There are two exits from this level - the Sun Exit, and the Moon Exit. For the purposes of this guide, we'll be taking the Sun Exit first - it leads to Barga's Valley.
-
Level 3.12 - Dangerous Treasure Chests
- Enemies: Elfas, King Mimic, Mimic, Ram, Smiling Fairy
- Time Limit: 07:35
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Indestructible Coin x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Monica's Sword
- Geostone Objects: Iron Lamp 1
- Geostone Conditions: Obtain 20 CP, Ferdinand Resides at Chinese Stand in Balance Valley, Two or more people reside in Balance Valley
- There are several large monsters in this level, meaning keep the Ridepod at the ready.
- Keep an eye open when opening Treasure Chests - Mimics and King Mimics are all over the place, ready to pounce.
- TIP: When opening a Treasure Chest, keep your finger over the R1 button to block in case it's a Mimic - you'll hear an auditory cue before he attacks.
-
Level 3.13 - Little Dragon's Counter-Attack
- Enemies: Fire Gemron, Holy Gemron, Ice Gemron, Thunder Gemron, Wind Gemron
- Time Limit: 07:42
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Level-Up Powder x2
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Without Healing
- Geostone Objects: Iron Gate, Star Lamp
- Geostone Conditions: Stewart Resides in Balance Valley
- You'll be encountering all the different types of Gemrons here, as well as a Blue Seal - Monica and the Beast Transformation won't be available until you defeat all the enemies.
- The Ridepod's Barrel Cannon should be used judiciously here - it'll clear the floor of the Gemrons with ease.
-
Level 3.5 - Warrior in Starlight Canyon
- Enemies: Elfas, Golem, Masked Tribesman, Mimic
- Time Limit: 06:50
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Wind Stone x5
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Ridepod
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: Obtain 30 CP
- You shouldn't have too much trouble here - the enemies are easily defeated with the Ridepod, which you should be using to complete the "Ridepod" Medal Condition. You won't be able to heal, because of the White Seal - unless you have a weapon with the Drain ability, or if Dr. Dell is your support character.
- TIP: If you have the time, I'd suggest leveling your ranged weapons with as many different elemental attributes as you can - there's several Gemrons still left, and they're all susceptible to something.
-
Level 3.6 - Smiling Fairy Village
- Enemies: Fire Gemron, Smiling Fairy, Thunder Gemron, Wind Gemron
- Time Limit: 06:45
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Improved Bomb x4
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Monster
- Geostone Objects: Church
- Geostone Conditions: Restoring the Sacred Torch, A Brick House must have a Star Lamp on it
- This level isn't that difficult as long as you followed the advice in the previous level's tips section.
-
Level 3.7 - Cursed Mask
- Enemies: Holy Gemron, King Mimic, Nikapous, Thunder Gemron, Yo-Yo Barrel
- Time Limit: 07:30
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Lightning Stone x5
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Items
- Geostone Objects: Iron Lamp 2
- Geostone Conditions: Restoring the Sacred Torch, A Brick House must have a Star Lamp on it
- There are two exits from this level - the Sun Path and the Star Path. The Star Path will be locked until later in the game, so for now head out of the Sun Path to continue.
- Nikapous carries two shields and can be difficult - if your Smash rating isn't high enough. If it is, wail on him to bring him down with ease.
- TIP: Keep note of the locked Star Paths you've encountered - you'll be revisiting this area later on.
-
Level 3.8 - We Are Roly-Poly Brothers
- Enemies: Elfas, Ivanoff, Mimic, Priest of Rama, Ram
- Time Limit: 07:50
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Bull's-Eye Coin x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Monster
- Geostone Objects: Barn, Mailbox
- Geostone Conditions: N/A
- Ivanoff and Priest of Rama decide to crash the party. If you're having difficulties on this level, bring some Heart-Throb Cherries and Non-Stop Amulets.
- Ivanoff are easy to deal with - it's the Priest of Rama that can cause problems. They don't cause much damage, but their Status attacks are annoying in the midst of battle. Deal with them quickly to keep them from having a chance to cast a Status Ailment on you.
-
Level 3.9 - Dragon Slayer
- Enemies: Dragon, Golem, Masked Tribesman, Yo-Yo Barrel
- Time Limit: 07:00
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Poison Coin x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Ridepod
- Geostone Objects: Laundry
- Geostone Conditions: Priest Bruno Resides in Church in Balance Valley, Parn Resides in Balance Valley, Restoring the Tool Shop
- For the most part, you've already dealt with these enemies. The new addition is the Dragon, which can be a bit of a pain - unless you follow the tips below.
- Dragons can spit fireballs at you - they're easy to dodge, however. They do heavy damage, so the Ridepod is your best bet against them. Their attacks can cause Stop, so make sure you have a Non-Stop Amulet equipped to negate the effects.
- At this point, you won't be able to move any further forward - Max is too worried about the young girl, Lin. It's time to start rebuilding some of Balance Valley.
-
Back in Balance Valley
The reason for the name "Balance Valley" is because all four of the plateaus must have equally distributed weight - otherwise you won't be able to continue building. This can be a bit tricky, so read the following steps carefully when attempting to build in Balance Valley.- Plant 15 trees, 6 on one plateau, and 3 a piece on the remaining ones. Build and place a Brick House and a Chinese Stand so that they balance the plateaus.
- Recruit Ferdinand and Stewart from Palm Brinks(refer to the Recruitable Characters for more information on recruiting them).
- Move Ferdinand into the Chinese Stand, and Stewart into the Brick House. Go to the future and collect the Fruit of Eden, Potato Pie, and Witch's Parfait from the treasure chests.
- Build and place 4 Pot Torches and the Church(you can only place one Church). Set them down appropriately so that the plateaus are still balanced. Go recruit Priest Bruno from Palm Brinks, and move him into the Church. The 4 Pot Torches should be placed at the four corners of the Church. Go to the future to collect the treasure chests.
- Put a Star Lamp on Stewart's Brick House, build another, and paint it purple. Put up some Metal Fence for both the houses - you should be close to 30 CP if you don't already have it.
- Go to the future and a cutscene will play.
- CUTSCENE: Max and Monica meet Lao Chao in the future. He agrees to make the miraculous dish, but he needs a White Windflower to complete it.
- The White Windflower can be obtained in Barga's Valley(level 3.13 - Little Dragon's Counter-Attack), so head there now. This will initiate another cutscene where Max and Monica meet Barga, a giant bird. This is your introduction to Spheda(refer to the Spheda section for help.
- TIP: If you can't get it, you can quit - in this instance alone, Monica will complete it for you. Barga will thank you and give you the White Windflower, as well as a Turkey club for Spheda. Go back to the future to give Lao Chao the White Windflower, and you'll receive the Miracle Dumplings.
- Head back to Balance Valley and give Lin the Miracle Dumplings. She'll recover, and become a permanent support character until you reach the Lighthouse. You'll need to head for Yorda's Valley at this point.
-
Level 3.10 - Yorda's Valley
Head towards the Yorda Tree, and a cutscene will play.- CUTSCENE: Lin will have some flashbacks about her master, Crest. A monster materializes out of her memory - how often does that happen?
- Boss: Memo Eater
- First things first, take a photo of the boss to complete a Scoop.
- If you've been leveling your weapons appropriately, this fight is extremely easy. Memo Eater uses a close range crushing attack for heavy damage, and has a ranged attack that can cause Poison and Gooey status effects. Hit him hard, then back flip to get out of his range.
- TIP: Like most enemies in Dark Cloud 2, you can circle the Memo Eater relatively easy and whack him from behind.
- CUTSCENE: With the Memo Eater defeated, Lin recovers almost all of her memory.
- Head east from the tree to exit the area. You'll need to head back to Balance Valley again.
-
Back in Balance Valley...Again...
- Restoring the Tool Shop is the next priority. Since Lin is in your party, you've got that accomplished. Go recruit Parn, which will automatically recruit Julia, and move him into the purple Brick House you built earlier.
- Head to the future to the Tool Shop - it's now open. There's a short cutscene where Max and Monica discuss the Starglass, which you need to buy. Once you have it, head back into the dungeon to level 3.11.
-
Level 3.11 - Rama Priests Like Cheese
- Enemies: Mimic, Priest of Rama, Wind Gemron, Yo-Yo Barrel
- Time Limit: 07:15
- Fishing Goal: 62 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Wind Crystal x3
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Items
- Geostone Objects: Block 1, Block 2
- Geostone Conditions: Four torches must be placed near Church, Officer Blinkhorn resides in Balance Valley, Restoring the Moon Crystal and Crest
- You've met these enemies before, so there's nothing too difficult here. Fishing Goals are available now - remember, there must be a large body of water for fishing to be available.
-
Level 3.12 - Nature's Threat
- Enemies: Dragon, Ivanoff, Golem, Priest of Rama
- Time Limit: 08:00
- Fishing Goal: 58 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Turquoise x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Max's Right-Hand Weapon
- Geostone Objects: Well
- Geostone Conditions: N/A
- Once again, you're simply collecting Geostones, there's nothing new to worry about.
-
Level 3.13 - Moon Baron
- Enemies: Crescent Baron, Holy Gemron, King Mimic, Mimic, Nikapous
- Time Limit: 07:30
- Fishing Goal: 66 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Level-Up Powder x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Ridepod
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: Obtain 40 CP
- CUTSCENE: Max and Monica are informed about a fishing tournament that's held every 10 days(in-game time) in Palm Brinks. However, to participate, they need an Aquarium and at least three fish.
- The Aquarium can be obtained through Invention.
- Crescent Barons are stronger versions of Baron Balloons that you met with in the sewers of Palm Brinks - treat these guys the same way for easy victory.
-
Level 3.14 - Lighthouse Appears
- Enemies: Crescent Baron, Dragon, Ivanoff, King Mimic, Wind Gemron
- Time Limit: 07:40
- Fishing Goal: 72 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Indestructible Coin x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Items
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: Restoring Moon Crystal and Crest
- Like the previous levels, this is simply a collection mission - you're here for the Geostone, not for a challenge. You can use this time to level up your weapons, if you're worried about being behind on Build Ups.
-
Level 3.15 - Lighthouse in Cape
- A short cutscene will play when you reach the Lighthouse. At the entrance, you'll need to place the Starglass item you purchased from the Tool Shop of Balance Valley's future.
- You will be transported to the past, and the Moon Crystal is under attack. You're about to fight Gaspard and Evil Flames, so if you haven't been stocking up your inventory, go and get a lot of HP regenerative items before doing these steps.
- Boss: Gaspard
- This battle is separated into two different areas - Max will be fighting the Evil Flames, and Monica will be fighting Gaspard, the man who killed her father in the game's opening cutscene.
- You'll start as Monica, fighting Gaspard. He can do some severe combos with his sword, but almost every hit can be blocked(keep R1 ready). He also can use magic attacks, but he tends to reserve them for when you get too far away for him to swing his sword at you. Stay in close, block his hits, and counter-attack. When you get his life down to halfway, the battle transitions to Max.
- Now, as Max, you need to destroy the Evil Flames. Switch to the Ridepod and use the Barrel Cannon to wipe them out - it takes one Barrel Cannon hit to kill them. Also be sure to snap a photo of Gaspard's flying ship, the Death Ark, to complete a Scoop. When you destroy all of the Evil Flames, the battle transitions back to Monica.
- Using the same tactics as before, whittle down Gaspard's life to 1/4th of its total. The battle will transition back to Max, who must destroy another wave of Evil Flames. Use the same tactics to defeat them, then(when the battle transitions yet again back to Monica), defeat Gaspard. Except for all the swapping around, this is a rather easy fight.
- CUTSCENE: Gaspard is defeated - Max and Monica learn more about what's been happening to the past, and how it's destroying the future.
- When all is said and done, head back to the future to meet up with Madame Crest, who tells you that your next destination is Veniccio.
- At this point, you have a choice of continuing to Veniccio or rebuilding Balance Valley to 100% completion. You will obtain the Serpent Slicer if you do, which is a very good trade.
-
Balance Valley Georama
The following are the remaining steps needed to complete the Balance Valley Georama to 100% completion. There actually isn't that much left to do.- Recruit Sheriff Blinkhorn(refer to the Recruitable Characters section for information on how). Move him into a house, and surround it with any type of fencing.
- Place a Star Lamp on one of the houses in Balance Valley.
- That's it. That's all that was left to do - now with that done, you can obtain the Serpent Slicer and move on to Veniccio. Just go talk to Cedric at the Balance Valley Station to start your trip.
-
Chapter Four - Good-bye, Shingala
Chapter Four will bring you to Veniccio, and you'll be trolling through caves for the majority of the time - specifically, Ocean Roar Cave, in search of Shingala the Sea Dragon, Pau's pet. This chapter does most of the Georama work before completing the dungeon, as well.- Photos:

Chapter Four Overview
- CUTSCENE: Max and Monica note an ominous cave entrance, and Monica asks Max to go check it. Max and Monica enter Pau's House, and talk with him for a bit until his Sea Dragon, Shingala, runs away. Max and Monica must now chase after Shingala to return it to Pau!
- First, go back to Palm Brinks and buy some Seal Breaking Scrolls(1,500G). These can get rid of the Seals on dungeon levels without having to defeat all the enemies first. It's useful in case you find a level where you must defeat all the enemies with Max to complete a medal condition, but a Red Seal would force you to replay the level. Just use a Seal Breaking Scroll and use Max the first time through!
- TIP: Melee weapons for your Ridepod are more useful in this Chapter, so save up your EXP and trade with Cedric for the Samurai Sword as soon as you can.
-
Ocean Roar Cave
- This dungeon is a little wacky - there are now white dots on your mini-map that indicate exits from the cave to open seaside areas which don't require any sort of key. The actual level exit to get to the next level of the dungeon is still located within the cave itself, however.
- Level Key: Luna Stone

- Medusa can cause Petrification, which is worse than Stop. This is why you got the Medusa's Tears and/or the Anti-Petrify Amulet before heading here...didn't you?

Back in Veniccio...
- It's time to rebuild some of Veniccio so you can get some help to save Shingala.
- You can't build buildings or plant trees directly on water - you need Piers first. Place at least 15, build 4 Iron Houses, 4 Shop Boats, and place a Shop Boat next to each Iron House. Paint the Iron Houses blue, green, purple, and red.
- Recruit Claire(for more information on how to do that, refer to the Recruitable Characters section), and move her into the red Iron House.
- Go to the future and gasp in awe at Luna Lab. Head for the red Lab, and meet up with Osmond, who'll give you an Electric Worm and some ideas about building an Aquarium.
- Invent an Aquarium(Fountain, Wooden Box, Window). The item cost is Rolling Logs x5, Glass Material x4, and Water Element x15. You can purchase them from Conda.
- When you have the Aquarium, put a Fish inside it and feed it the Electric Worm. This is the bait for Shingala, so save your game, and head back to level 4.9 - Cave of Ancient Murals.
-
Level 4.9 - Cave of Ancient Murals
This is a boss fight - if you'll notice a pattern, every time you must leave a dungeon to rebuild a Georama, once you return to the dungeon, it's usually a boss fight. Keep that in mind so you can stock up on restorative items and the like while you're out.- Boss: Shingala
- Shingala has two attacks - a head-swinging melee attack that can knock you over, and a ranged breath attack that deals heavy damage. Take a photo of Shingala to complete a Scoop, then look around for a yellow object that's floating around - the fish you fed the Electric Worm to!
- Attack Shingala, but make sure you don't kill it - it's instant Game Over. Remember, you're trying to save it, not destroy it. Eventually, Shingala's head falls into a position that you can throw the fish in his mouth. To grab the fish, hold R1 and press X when you're near it, and throw by tapping X.
-
Back in Veniccio...Again...
CUTSCENE: Shingala is safe, but badly injured. Max and Monica must retrieve medicine for Shingala from the Shigura Village - but how can they talk to them?- Recruit Donny, and move him into the blue iron House. Go to the future to trigger a cutscene.
- CUTSCENE: Dr. Nobbs gives Max and Monica a translation device for Shigura - the Shell Talkie. Max and Monica will be able to communicate with adult Shigura now.
- Return to the Cave of Ancient Murals - take a photo of the mural to complete a Scoop, then move across the bridge to the next level.
-
Level 4.10 - Wandering Zappy
- Enemies: Aqua Element, Goyone, Mimic, Zappy
- Time Limit: 06:30
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Level-Up Powder x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Max's Right-Hand Weapon
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: Make an Iron House and paint it Purple, Save Shigura Village
- There's a White Seal on this level, meaning you can't heal with Bread, Cheese, etc. You also can't cure Status Ailments with items. A Seal-Breaking Scroll can allow you to use your restorative items, but if you don't defeat all the enemies before leaving this level, the Seal will return - you only truly get rid of it by defeating all enemies.
- TIP: Dr. Dell can still be used when there's a White Seal. Also, if your weapon has Drain attribute, you can still recover HP by defeating enemies.
-
Level 4.11 - Banquet of the Dead
- Enemies: Hornhead, King Mimic, Mimic, Pirate Tank, Sand Moler, Sooty
- Time Limit: 05:50
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Absorption Coin x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Items
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: All 4 Luna Labs Restored Condition, Search Lights Condition
- Hornead and Sooty are new additions to the enemy roster.
- Sooty is the stronger version of Darkness you fought in the Underground Channel. Use the same tactics to bring it down.
- The next level requires you to use Monica(Red Seal), so be sure to train her up and keep her upgraded and buffed.
-
Level 4.12 - Improvements
- Enemies: Aqua Element, Ragstink, Sea Tortoise, Vanguard Neo, Zappy
- Time Limit: 05:20
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Treasure Chest Key x5
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Without Healing
- Geostone Objects: Luna Stone Light
- Geostone Conditions: Place the Purple Iron House Near the Shop Boat, 8 or More Luna Stone Lights Placed Condition, Restoring Central Luna Lab's Emblem Condition
- There are a lot of Ridepod-specific monsters - only, there's also a Red Seal, meaning you can't use Max or the Ridepod. If it's too difficult, purchase a Seal-Breaking Scroll from Morton's Sundries for 1,500G and break the Red Seal so you can use the Ridepod.
- CUTSCENE: Monica learns about absorbing enemy magic with her Absorption Blade technique.
- TIP: To use the absorb technique, hold L1 when an enemy fires magic at you. You can only stock one type of magic attack(if you are stocking Fire, and you absorb an Ice, you lose all your stocked Fire, for example). Using the absorb technique might save you the 1,500G it costs for a Seal-Breaking Scroll.
-
Level 4.13 - Return of Serpent
- Enemies: Goyone, Mimic, Sand Moler, Sea Serpent, Sooty
- Time Limit: 06:35
- Fishing Goal: 50 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: N/A
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Ridepod
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: Place a Green Iron House
- CUTSCENE: Mayor Need talks about the Finny Frenzy Fish Race.
- Sand Molers and Sea Serpents can both go underground - but you can attack both while they're under there. Attack the dirt mound above them to hit them; you can't lock on to it, so keep R1 ready to block for when they pop up.
-
Level 4.14 - Cursed Sea
- Enemies: Master Jacket, Mimic, Pirate Tank, Shiva, Vanguard Neo
- Time Limit: 06:15
- Fishing Goal: 54 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: N/A
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Max's Right-Hand Weapon
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: Place a Shop Boat Near the Green Iron House, Place a Windmill
- Master Jacket, for those who remember, was your first Duel in Dark Cloud. He's also easy to defeat here - just combo him and block his attacks with R1.
-
Level 4.15 - Sea of Atrocity
- Enemies: King Mimic, Master Jacket, Sea Serpent, Sooty, Zappy
- Time Limit: 06:00
- Fishing Goal: 46 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: N/A
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Max's Right-Hand Weapon
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: Obtain 80 CP
- When you finish this level, be sure to save your game.
-
Level 4.16 - Shigura Village
- Use the Shell Talkie to communicate with the brownish Shigura - he's the only one colored that way, and he's the leader. After the cutscene, you'll obtain the Secret Dragon Remedy.
- Return to Veniccio and use the Secret Dragon Remedy on Shingala to trigger a cutscene.
- CUTSCENE: Shigura Village is under attack by a giant flying battleship, the Death Ark.
- Boss: Dr. Jaming
- You'll need to take a photo of Dr. Jaming in his hovercraft to complete a Scoop. When that's done, take a look around the battlefield - you're surrounded by Shigura that are under the same mind-control that Shingala was. You'll need to use them to attack Dr. Jaming, as you can't lock on to him at all.
- Avoid the attacks the Shigura use on you, and as Dr. Jaming is flying over them, hit the Shigura - it'll be stunned, and raise it's head, which will damage Dr. Jaming as he flies into it. Try to spread out your attacks instead of focusing on a particular Shigura - don't kill the Shigura.
- CUTSCENE: Gaspard leaves Dr. Jaming at the mercy of the Shigura, but instead of attacking him, the Shigura save Dr. Jaming.
- After a few sad scenes, you and Shingala leave. It's time to complete Veniccio to 100% completion!
-
Veniccio Georama
- The hardest part of completing Veniccio to 100% is obtaining the CP - everything else is pie.
- Build 8 Luna Stone Lights, an Iron Stand, and place them and some Mailboxes and Iron Sheds to gain CP. Build and place the Windmill in the center of any Pier you have. The only thing left is the CP, and with the Luna Stone Lights and all the Mailboxes, you shouldn't be far from having it.
- When you finally get the 80 CP, head to the future - there are a lot of treasure chests scattered about, so keep an eye out for them. When you complete Veniccio to 100%, you'll receive the Nova Cannon for the Ridepod. Take a photo of the Emblem above the center Lab for a Scoop. Head into the central Lab for a surprise!
-
Chapter Five - Conflict of the Past and Future
You'll want to start using Cheese instead of Bread as the main staple of HP-regenerative items in your inventory. Also, the dungeon in Chapter Five is extremely long, relatively speaking - you might want to start building up Steve the Ridepod, as it'll be an important part of defeating the dungeon of Chapter Five.- Photos:

Chapter Five Overview
After meeting with Max's mother, you'll be heading here, to Chapter Five, to take on Mt. Gundor and rebuild Heim Rada. There's new stuff stocked in most of the stores, as well as a fight with Gaspard's ship, the Death Ark. You're going to have a time rebuilding Heim Rada, what with those geysers and such. -
Level 5.1 - Battle With Griffon's Army
- Enemies: Griffon Soldier, Rifle Wolf, Stick Joe
- Time Limit: 07:10
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Level-Up Powder x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Without Healing
- Geostone Objects: Great Cane
- Geostone Conditions: 2nd Floor of Workshop condition, Fire Squall Destroyed
- As long as you've been upgrading your weapon with some consistency, you shouldn't have too much of a problem with the new enemies here.
- Stick Joe is a flying enemy, so use projectiles to bring him back down to earth.
- TIP: Use run-and-gun tactics on the Rifle Wolf to defeat them without taking any damage. Remember to use the back flip(hold Left Analog Stick down and tap X when locked-on to an enemy) to avoid damage from close-range melee attacks.
-
Level 5.2 - Mount Gundor Wind
- Enemies: Griffon Soldier, Steam Kotore, Steam Tore, Thunder Gundron, Wind Gundron
- Time Limit: 07:00
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Treasure Chest Key x5
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Max's Gun
- Geostone Objects: Power Arm
- Geostone Conditions: Place 3 Sturdy Houses Condition, Restore 3rd Floor of Workshop Condition
- Steam Kotore and Steam Tore are stronger versions of the Kotore and Tore you encountered in Rainbow Butterfly Woods - deal with them accordingly. There's also a Red Seal on this floor, meaning Max and the Ridepod are unavailable.
- Thunder and Wind Gundrons are difficult, but you can deflect their ranged attack with a swipe of your melee weapon.
- TIP: Use Monica's absorb technique liberally here - you need it in order to defeat some of the larger enemies since you can't use the Ridepod.
-
Level 5.3 - Little Dragons on the Mountain

- Time Limit: 07:30
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Level-Up Powder x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Items

- There are two exits from this level - the Sun Path and the Star Path. The Star paths are locked until you reach Chapter Six, so head down the sun path. There's a Blue Seal here, but considering that Max has the Ridepod, you won't be too troubled by it.
-

-

- Geostone Objects: Hardened Mud Pile
- Geostone Conditions: Borneo Resides in Heim Rada, Place a Windmill
- Clear out the enemies, loot the treasure chests, and grab the Geostone. No new tactics necessary here.
-
Back in Heim Rada...
- Build the following - 4 Brick Houses, lots of Block 2, a Generator, at least 10 Pots, and a Windmill.
- You need to build over 10 Block 2 and Block 1 pieces and attach them so that they're three blocks high, and can have a Brick House placed on them. Don't build anything that can be burned, except for one Straw House for a Scoop. Move Erik, Borneo, and Cedric into Heim Rada, and put fencing around the three Brick Houses that aren't on the Blocks.
- Place the Generator, Windmill, and Pots anywhere. Also put a Crane and a Work Arm on the Houses. Make sure the Windmill is near the House you moved Erik into. Do some painting and anything else you need to do to get the 70 CP, then head to the future.
- Go to the 2nd floor of the Gundorada Workshop to receive the Time Bomb from Garek. When you obtain it, head back to the present and return to level 5.12 - Mount Gundor Peak.
- TIP: The Straw House you made was burned down - take a Photo of it to complete a Scoop.
-
Level 5.12 - Mount Gundor Peak
- Take a photo of the Fire Squall to complete a Scoop. Then, examine the door to place the Time Bomb. Some storyline cutscenes occur, and Monica goes off to fight Gaspard while Max must destroy his battleship, the Death Ark.
- Boss: Death Ark
- Take a photo of the Death Ark to complete a Scoop, as this is your last chance to do so if you haven't already.
- Your gun is worthless against the Death Ark. I'd suggest using the Ridepod, and luring the Death Ark closer to the edge of the cliff. Dodge the attacks, and fire back with the best weapon you have for the Ridepod.
- The Death Ark has a cannon attack similar to the Pirate Tank you've fought earlier, and a machine gun attack. They're both easily dodged, so do the run-and-gun tactics until the boss goes down.
- When the Death Ark is defeated, head down the path, and through the stone gateway.
-
Level 5.13 - Walking the Path of Flames
- Enemies: Alexander, Chimera, Lava Bat, Lava Golem
- Time Limit: 07:40
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Resurrection Powder x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Ridepod
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: Restore Gundorada Workshop Condition, Restore Item Shop Condition, Restore Operations Room Condition
- You must use Max or the Ridepod for now, until you locate the fallen Death Ark.
- Pull Cedric in as your Support Character for these next few levels - you'll be relying on the Ridepod to do some heavy damage, and Cedric to repair it and refuel it when necessary.
- The Gate Key and Locked Door Key are different now - They are the Rope, and White Wind Vane, respectively.
-
Level 5.14 - Burning Undead
- Enemies: Bone Lord, King Mimic, Lava Runner, Mimic, Ultrasonic Robo
- Time Limit: 06:52
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Level-Up Powder x2
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Items
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: Cedric Resides in Heim Rada, Restore Weapon Shop Condition
- Rely on the Ridepod for now, and continue working your way through the dungeon.
-
Level 5.15 - Fire Dragon
- Enemies: Bomberhead, Chimera, Fire Dragon, Fire Gundron
- Time Limit: 07:06
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Indestructible Coin x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Without Healing
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: Eriks' House is Near Windmill
- There is a White Seal on this level, meaning you can't use curative items like Bread, or restorative items like Antidote Drink. This is also a Medal Condition, so I suggest going ahead and attempting to rough it out until you defeat all the enemies.
-
Level 5.16 - Treasure Chest Danger Zone
- Enemies: Alexander, Bone Lord, King Mimic, Mimic, Lava Bat
- Time Limit: 08:00
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Sapphire x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Max's Right-Hand Weapon
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: N/A
- Keep moving, and use the Ridepod when you come across the King Mimics.
-
Level 5.17 - Road to River of Flames
- Enemies: Lava Bat, Red Dragon, Ultrasonic Robo
- Time Limit: 07:10
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Turquoise x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Items
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: Gaspard Defeated Condition
- Equip a Non-Stop Amulet or else the Dragons will really annoy you. When you finish here, head back to Heim Rada to build some.
-
Back in Heim Rada...Again...
- Recruit Gerald and move him into a House, then enclose it with Fence. Plant some trees and other small things that will help to obtain 100 CP. As soon as you get the message that something has happened in the future, head there.
- Head to the Control Room of Gundorada Workshop to meet Galen, who'll give you the Fire Horn. Collect any special items(Fruit of Eden, Potato Pie, Witch's Parfait) before leaving to return to floor 5.18 - Mount Gundor Mouth.
-
Level 5.18 - Mount Gundor Mouth
- Use the Fire Horn on the river of lava to reveal the Lava Road(take a photo to complete a Scoop). Continue forward and you'll see the fallen Death Ark(take a photo to complete a Scoop). Max will have to fight Gaspard!
- Boss: Gaspard
- Gaspard is stronger than the previous fight where Monica was used against him - he deals more damage, does more combo attacks, and can use magic(most noticeably, a powerful strike of lightning). Keep Cheese equipped in your Active Item slot, and wail away on him.
- When Gaspard is knocked down, use a charge attack to juggle him to deal massive damage safely.
- When Gaspard is defeated, he'll be transformed into Monster Gaspard. Take a photo of the Monster form to complete a Scoop, then switch to the Ridepod and blast him with the Nova Cannon while circling him and avoiding his attacks. When he falls, watch the cutscene.
- Return to the Gundorada Workshop.
-
Heim Rada Georama
- You've already got 100% completion of the Heim Rada Georama - you just defeated Gaspard, which was all that was left to do. You'll receive the Holy Daedalus Blade, which was Monica's father's sword.
- Take a photo of the Paznos to complete a Scoop, then upgrade everyone's weapons, Build Up any weapons that can be, upgrade the Ridepod with the best equipment available, and stock up on restorative items. If you haven't already, take photos of Blackstone One and the Control Room, as it won't be Blackstone One for long.
- Take the Workshop Elevator to the 3rd Floor and move to Pazno's Bridge. Talk to Galen to have Paznos help the future against attacks from the evil Emperor Griffon. Head back to Veniccio after this to head to Luna Lab, where you'll receive Ixion, a vehicle that lets you travel 10,000 years to the past to Moon Flower Palace. (this replaces the Blackstone One, so be sure to take the necessary photos before doing this.)
-
Chapter Six - When Two Eras Collide
- You'll be able to move between time periods by using the Ixion. There's no Georama for Chapter Six, but the dungeon - Kazanov Stonehenge - is huge, and requires you to go back to the locked Star Paths you ran across in previous dungeons in order to beat it.

Chapter Six Overview
- After travelling 10,000 years into the past to Moon Flower Palace, you'll be forced into a boss battle. Take a photo of Ixion to complete a Scoop before entering the Palace to fight Emperor Griffon.
- Boss: Emperor Griffon
- First, take a photo of Griffon before you start the battle. You'll want to have an Attack rating of at least 150, as this is going to be a tough fight. If you haven't gotten Ultimate Weapons from performing Build Ups by now, you might want to go level for a bit.
- The Ridepod is almost completely worthless in this fight - you'll need to rely on Max and Monica alone. Bring a lot of Cheese and Premium Chicken to heal, because you will take damage.
- TIP: Dodge Griffon's attacks, get underneath him and use a charge attack to juggle him - he's a human-sized boss, and he juggles pretty easily.
- After Griffon's life drops to 1/2, a cutscene will play. The fight resumes after the cutscene - I can't spoil it for you.
- Once you defeat Griffon, more cutscenes play out that I can't give away for story purposes. However, I can say your Atlamillias are taken away, and with the Sun, Earth, and Moon Stones, Griffon is transformed into a gigantic winged beast.
- CUTSCENE: Max and Monica are rescued from the transformed Griffon by the Firbits and Osmond, who come to their aid in the Ixion and take them to the Kazanov Stonehenge.
-
Kazanov Stonehenge
- You'll need to collect four Gems - the Earth Gem, Water Gem, Fire Gem, and Wind Gem. Each are found in a previous dungeon's Star Path that was locked to you earlier in the game:
- Earth Gem: Rainbow Butterfly Woods
- Water Gem: Ocean Roar Cave
- Fire Gem: Mount Gundor
- Wind Gem: Starlight Canyon
- Getting them requires you to use the Star Key(obtained from Elena) to remove the lock, but you still need the appropriate Gate Key for each dungeon to continue through the path. It doesn't matter what order you do them in, but this guide does them in the following order - Earth, Water, Fire, Wind.
- Earth Gem:
-
Level 2.8 - Legendary Killer Snake
- Enemies: Fire Element, Gyuro, Ice Element, Killer Snake, Sonic Bomber
- Time Limit: 04:40
- Fishing Goal: 49 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: N/A
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Ridepod
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: N/A
- Use the Star Key to open the Star Path, then use the Fairy Saw to continue through.
-

- Fishing Goal: 54 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Gift Capsule x3
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Without Healing
- Geostone Objects: Chimney Pot
- Geostone Conditions: Restore Golden Eggs Condition
- All the enemies here are powerful - more powerful than those you just fought in Mt. Gundor. Most of them are just powered-up versions of previous enemies(Zucky is a stronger Pumpkinhead, etc.) so just use the same tactics and watch out for the Mimics.
-
Level 2.13 - Something Rare is Here
- Enemies: Mad Kotore, Mad Tore, Slyph, Zucky
- Time Limit: 04:40
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Ama No Murakumo x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Max's Right-Hand Weapon
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: N/A
- Slyph is difficult - lure it and then whop it with a charge attack, then dodge. There's a Blue Seal here, meaning you can't use Monica or her Beast Form, so be aware that if Max is KO'd, it's game over.
-
Level 2.14 - Scary Tree
- Enemies: King Mimic, Mad Kotore, Mad Tore, Mimic
- Time Limit: 04:00
- Fishing Goal: 66 cm or more
- Spheda Prize: Final Bomb x3

- You've finally collected all the conditions for Sindain to have 100% completion - you should, however, already have 100% completion in Sindain, thanks to this guide.
-
Level 2.15 - Chamber of the Sleeping Earth Gem
- You'll meet the Earth Gem guardian here, Trentos.
- Boss: Trentos
- Remember to take a photo of the Earth Gem Altar after you defeat the boss for a Scoop.
- Use the Ridepod with Propeller Legs and the Nova Cannon equipped, then dance around Trentos and blast him until he drops. Retrieve the Earth Gem from the altar, snap a photo of the altar, and head back to Veniccio Coast to find the Water Gem.

-
Level 4.19 - Death Ocean
- Enemies: Arkerath, Fat Naga, King Mimic, Metal Bomber, Pirate Eye
- Time Limit: 06:14
- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Level-Up Powder x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Monica's Sword
- Geostone Objects: N/A
- Geostone Conditions: N/A
- There's a Red Seal here, so you can't use Max or the Ridepod until you defeat all the enemies, or until you use the Seal-Breaking Scroll. Bring Medusa's Tears or Mighty Healing with you - you may want to use Dr. Dell as your Support Character here.
-
Level 4.20 - Chamber of the Sleeping Water Gem
- You'll fight the guardian of the Water Gem, Sea Dragon, here.
- Boss: Sea Dragon
- The Sea Dragon can burrow underground, cause Poison status, and just so happens to be weak against Lightning attribute weapons. Alternatively, you can use the Ridepod to decimate it quickly.
- Retrieve the Water Gem, take a photo of the Water Gem altar, and head to Mt. Gundor to snatch up the Fire Gem.
- Fire Gem:
-

-
Level 5.22 - Chamber of the Blazing Fire Gem
- You'll fight the guardian of the Fire Gem, Inferno, here(it's an appropriate name, I think).
- Boss: Inferno
- Use the Ridepod to fly around Inferno and shoot him with the Nova Cannon, as he carries a big sword and is very quick to use it for heavy damage. Avoid him as much as possible - defense takes precedence over offense in this battle.
- When Inferno is defeated, snatch up the Fire Gem, take a photo of the Fire Gem altar, and head to Balance Valley to grab the Wind Gem.
- Wind Gem:

- Fishing Goal: N/A
- Spheda Prize: Resurrection Powder x1
- Attack and Defeat All Enemies Using Only Max's Gun
- Geostone Objects: Hay, Hoe
- Geostone Conditions: N/A
- There's a Blue Seal on this level, meaning you won't be able to use Monica or her Beast Form. Not that you should be doing that anyway - use the Ridepod and answer each enemy in kind with a Nova Cannon blast.
-
Level 3.19 - Chamber of the Defending Wind Gem
- You'll fight Lapis Garter, the guardian of the Wind Gem, here.
- Boss: Lapis Garter
- Lapis Garter can be taken with the same tactics you use against the Yo-Yo Barrels. Alternatively, you can also just fly around it while shooting it with the Nova Cannon, if the Ridepod's up to it. Either way, this fight is quite simple.
- Retrieve the Wind Gem, take a photo of the Wind Gem altar, and go back to Kazanov Stonehenge.
-
Chrono Union
- Place each Gem in its respective location - Earth in the yellow altar, Wind in the green altar, Water in the blue altar, and Fire in the red altar. More story cutscenes await, after which you can finally access the Moon Flower Palace. Take a photo of the Paznos here to complete a Scoop, then head on to the "last" chapter, Chapter Seven.
-
Chapter Seven - Palace of Flowers
- At this point, if there are any Medals you haven't collected, go and do so now - after Chapter Seven is completed, you can't access certain points in the game. Enter the palace only when you're ready.

- There's a Blue Seal on this floor, meaning you can't use Monica or her Beast Form. Use the Ridepod instead, and be sure that it's equipped with the Energy Pack (Urn), Propeller Legs, and the Nova Cannon(hopefully, at this point, an upgraded version of the Nova Cannon).

- This is the last level before you face off against Emperor Griffon. There's a White Seal here, so you can't use restorative or curative items, so I'd suggest using a Seal-Breaking Scroll here.
- TIP: Before you head out to the next level, head back to town and have everyone healed, the Ridepod repaired, all weapons repaired, and make sure you have at least the following amount in your inventory of the listed items:
- 20+ Premium Chicken
- 20+ Plum Rice Ball
- 20+ Cheese
- 20+ Repair Powder, Gun Repair Powder, and Armband Repair Powder
- You'll want to have as much curative and restorative items as you can carry, and 20+ Repair Powder for each weapon type. I tend to overstock, but it's a good tactic in Dark Cloud 2.
-
Level 7.27 - Sun Chamber
- Take a photo of the statues at the doorway. When you examine the door, it'll ask for Griffon's real name. Enter "Sirus" without the apostrophes, and the doors will open. Here's your boss...
- Boss: Emperor Griffon
- Griffon is fought in three separate battles. Each are outlined below:
- Griffon and the Flying Atlamillias:
- Use the Ridepod to circle around Griffon, and wait for the Atlamillias to circle Griffon's head. Lock on to them, and blast away with the Nova Cannon. When Griffon's life gets down to halfway, you get a cutscene, and the battle progresses to...
- Griffon Has Wings:
- Griffon uses his wings as a pair of large swords, and they hurt tremendously. The Ridepod becomes useless at this point, so switch to Max or Monica and attempt to circle him, nailing his back with combos until his life is down to 1/4th. You'll get another cutscene, and finally...
- Griffon on Fire:
- There are three main attacks that Griffon will use here - a punching combo, a fireball, and an explosive ground smash. You can avoid the punch combo by running away without being locked on, as well as the fireball. The ground smash attack causes splash damage, so as long as you're not within the radius of effect, you can avoid it easily. The shockwave can cause Stop status, as well, so be sure to avoid it. Attack him with the Ridepod's Nova Cannon until he's defeated.
- Watch the cutscene, you earned it. You'll be teleported to the Dream Spiral - you didn't think it was over, did you? You'll be on your way to fighting the Dark Element, but first you have to run a gauntlet of five powerful enemies. All five of them have the same strategy - just fly around it with the Ridepod, and blast it to pieces with the Nova Cannon. The enemies are: Mammo, Nightmare, Black Dragon, Uther, and Gaja Ein & Gaja Zwei.
- When you've defeated all of them, continue moving until you meet with Dark Element, the "last" boss of Dark Cloud 2.
- Boss: Dark Element
- Take a photo of the moon falling in the background to complete a Scoop, then focus your attention on Dark Element.
- There is a five minute time limit to defeat Dark Element, and he can do between 48 damage to an instant kill. If your weapons aren't all at least 300 in Attack, you don't have much of a chance.
- The core of Dark Element starts out red - Max's attacks will be useless, so use Monica to attack when the core is red. When it turns blue, use Max to attack, as Monica won't be able to damage it.
- When Dark Element is almost dead, the core will begin to glow, and the colors will switch meanings - now you must use melee attacks only when the core is red, and ranged attacks only when the core is blue. Keep attacking, doing combos, and never stop. Keep your restorative items equipped to your Active Item slot, and use them if you get low on HP. Soon, Dark Element will fall.
- Congratulations! You've just beaten Dark Cloud 2!...or did you? Wait until the credits roll, and "The End" shows up, and the game will prompt you to create a start file for Chapter Eight. Do so.

Moon Flower Palace Georama
- There are no conditions listed for the Georama in Moon Flower Palace - instead, you use the paintings around the room to get clues as to how to put it all together.
- A Scent of Water in the Sun: Place the Relaxation Fountain in the middle area.
- The Path of Flowers We Walked: Place 8 "Road to Golbad" faced North and South.
- The Door and the Moon Column: All 16 Moon Columns must be placed on the side of the path you made with "Road to Golbad".
- The Path of the Sun: Place 6 Road on the left and right of the walkway.
- A Stream and a Starlight Stair: Place both Starlight Stairs, and have a River run through both of them.
- Flower Bed of Recollections: Place all 6 Flower Beds.
- You, Sitting By the Stairs: Place the Palace Stairs and both Silver Benches.
- The End of the Hall of Sorrow: Place the Hall of Sorrow.
- Feelings Deep in Stardust Pond: Place Stardust Pond.
- The Murmur of the Trees: Place two Camellia Trees.
- Refer to the paintings if you're having difficulty - they're a better map than anything else. When you finish completing the Moon Flower Palace, head back to level 7.23 - Elemental Party.

Chapter Eight Overview
- Chapter Eight is entirely optional - it's a bonus, not a requirement. As such, it's almost completely dungeon, with very little in the way of story - there are, however, a few things worth noting:
- Rufio sells all the Crystals.
- Morton's Sundries sells all Gems and Coins except for: Dark Coin, Indestructible Coin, Sun Stone, Moon Stone.
- There is no Georama.
- You can no longer access Moon Flower Palace or the Kazanov Stonehenge.
- You can't access the future anymore, and Monica will not be in your party...for a bit.
-
Level 8.10 - Death End 1
- Boss: Burst One and Two
- You'll be fighting two Nail Bursts, a Vanguard-like enemy, that has only close-range melee attacks. So, get back away from it and use the Ridepod's Nova Cannon III(which you should have by now) and blast them to pieces while flying in circles around them. The bosses in this dungeon drop ABS and Gilda, so be sure to collect it. You'll be given two Treasure Chests - one contains a Sun Stone, and the other a Healing Coin. Don't Spectralize the Sun Stone, you need it to invent the Ridepod's strongest ranged weapon. Exit, save, and restock your supplies, then head back to floor 8.6 - Crossroads of Destiny, and take the Sun Path.
-
Level 8.16 - Death End 2
- Boss: Exploding Skeletal Dude
- As long as Max is equipped with a 500 Atk. power LEGEND, with 200+ Exorcism attribute, you're all set. Use Max's charge attack in close range to end the battle quickly. Collect your ABS and Gilda, and you'll see two more Treasure Chests - one with an Absorption Coin, the other with a Moon Stone. Exit, save, and restock your inventory, then head back to level 8.11 - Which One? and take the Moon Path.
-
Level 8.21 - Death End 3
- Boss: Flappin' Brothers
- Use the Ridepod to circle them and blast them with your Nova Cannon III. Collect your ABS and Gilda, and you'll see three Treasure Chests - they contain Dynamite, Poison Coin, and Experience Coin. Exit, Save, restock your inventory, and then head back to level 8.18 - Crosroads, and take the Sun Path.
-
Level 8.21 - Dead End 3
- Boss: The Mandrakez
- Once again, use the Ridepod to fly circles around the five of them and blast them with the Nova Cannon III. Collect the ABS and Gilda, then collect two Diamonds from the Treasure Chests. Exit, Save, restock your inventory, and then head back to level 8.22 - Little Dragon Army, and take the Sun Path.
-
Level 8.26 - A Suspicious Opening
- Boss: Metal Flotsam
- Take a picture of Metal Flotsam to complete a Scoop, then focus your attention on the battle.
- Use Monica's homing magic to attack him in the air - when he lands, use her combo. As soon as you finish the combo, dodge and fire magic until he lands again. Repeat until Metal Flotsam is no more.
- There are a few special cutscenes here - I don't want to spoil it for you, but if you've played Dark Cloud, you're going to be kicking yourself about it.
- Build the Nova Cannon IV using the Sun Stone you obtained earlier. Head to the next level.
-
Level 8.37 - Zelmite Mine Depths
- When you get here, use the Dynamite on the pile of rocks blocking the pathway. You'll finally see the Zelmite, as well as the unexpected mastermind behind Flotsam - The Dark Genie himself.
- Boss: Dark Genie
- For this fight, make sure that Max has the LEGEND or Grade Zero, and the Supernova; the Ridepod should have the Nova Cannon IV, Sun and Moon Armor, Triple-Urn Pack, Propeller Legs, and all available Shield Kits; and your inventory should include 20+ Premium Chicken, 5+ Ridepod Fuel, 5+ Resurrection Powder, and 20+ Repair Powder for each weapon type.
- Collect two rare photos by snapping a picture of the blue ore in the background to get a photo of the Zelmite, and a picture of the Dark Genie to get "Mr. Big Shot's Shadow". Now it's time for the final showdown.
- Use the Ridepod to shoot the giant Dark Genie with the Nova Cannon IV, and tag each of the smaller genies he sends your way with a blast as they become necessary. Nova Cannon IV will begin to give a "no effect" after a while, so switch to Max and use his charge attack - just make sure that the giant Dark Genie isn't above you, or you could instantly die - and then switch back to Ridepod to continue doing the run-and-gun strategy. Eventually, Dark Genie will fall.
- Congratulations! Now you've beaten Dark Cloud 2!

Monica's Beast Transformation
- In Chapter Two, after you revive the Great Elder Jurak, Monica will receive the Monster Badge Box, which give you the ability to store badges earned from monsters to utilize her Beast Transformation ability. You get the first badge from completing the Georama Conditions for the Tailor Shop in Sindain - it becomes purchasable from the Tailor Shop(future). After you collect the badges, Monica can transform into an enemy monster.
- Monica's HP will be used by the monster she transforms into - if the monster's HP is diminished to 0, so will Monica's.
- You can only stay in beast form for a limited amount of time.
- In beast form, you will not be attacked by a monster of the same class(if Monica is a Floral monster, other Floral monsters will not attack her). You can also talk to monsters of the same class as your beast form to gain information on collecting other badges.
-
Beast Badges
- Below is a listing of all the available Beast Badges, as well as how to obtain it. All badges become obtainable after you buy the Himarra Badge from the Tailor Shop - purchase Gift Capsules from the Tailor Shop and fill it with certain items, then toss it at the enemy specified and defeat it to obtain its badge.
- Floral: Complete the Georama Conditions for the Tailor Shop in Chapter Two. Purchase from the Tailor Shop(500G).
- Beast: Fill the Gift Capsule with Cheese x3, and use it on a Sewer Rat in the Underground Channel. Defeat to obtain the badge.
- Aquatic: Fill the Gift Capsule with Battan x3, and use it on a Froggy in the Underground Channel. Defeat to obtain the badge.
- Darkling: Fill the Gift Capsule with Gold Bar x3, and use it on a Darkling enemy in Rainbow Butterfly Woods. Defeat to obtain the badge.

- Sun: Earn 700 Scoop points and obtain it from Donny after he's been recruited. Increases the beast form's Attack and Defense ratings(does not add a new monster type).
-
Transformation Stats
- Monsters can be evolved after reaching level 26, level 51, and level 76. They peak at level 99. An example of monster evolution - the Sewer Rat(beast), after reaching a certain level, can become either a Ram or a Beach Rat. Getting to the highest evolution(in this instance, the Death Mouse) earns you special items.
- It takes 100 EXP for a monster form to gain a level.
- Monica can only stay transformed as long as the red Beast Transformation bar indicates - if it runs out, she transforms back into her human form.
-
Photos and Scoops
- Photos and Scoops are taken with the Camera that you receive from Cedric during Chapter One. You can invent new items, weapons, clothing, and Ridepod parts using Photos (for more information on how to invent things, refer to the Inventing section); you can also turn in Scoops(rare Photos) to Donny once you've recruited him to obtain rare items. Below are lists of all available Photos and Scoops, along with what Chapter they're found in and explanations of the location for "missable" photos (photos that appear rarely) and "Georama Item" photos(photos that are Georama items, or require one).

Easy Gilda
- Gilda, the currency for Dark Cloud 2, can sometimes be a pain to come by - especially with the high price of certain Georama Materials when you need to build Straw Houses. Fortunately, there's a couple of tricks for making easy money in Dark Cloud 2. One is just a convenient Invention - the other is an outright game glitch. Both can make you filthy rich in a short amount of time.
- Invention Trick: After you invent the Turkey, a Spheda club, there's a loophole for the item costs - everything you need to make a Turkey will only cost you 90G. A Turkey, however, sells for 230G, leaving you with 140G. Buy enough to build another Turkey(which leaves you with 50G), then sell it for a grand total of 270G, which means you can make two Turkeys at a time. Keep doing this over and over, increasing the amount of Turkeys you make before selling as the money increases, and you'll be rolling in Gilda.
- Game Glitch: In Chapter Four, after you recruit Olivie, you'll be able to buy and equip different Lures. Buy two of the same Lure, and as Max, equip the Lure Rod and one of the two identical Lures. Press R2 while still in the menu to switch to Monica, then attempt to equip the unequipped Lure. Nothing will appear to change, but you'll have two Lures equipped to the rod. Keep equipping the unequipped Lure, and the number will keep increasing. Stop at 998 Lures, then unequip them and sell all but two for a huge profit. Using the two you left over, continue doing the glitch until you have your desired level of wealth.

Name-Change Ticket Transformation
- The Name-Change Ticket usually just changes the name of the weapon - unless you put the name of another weapon in the game. If you do it with the proper case and spelling, the weapon transforms into the weapon you named. This is an exceedingly easy way to obtain the Ultimate Weapons, without going through the process of Build Ups and such.
- Recruit Mayor Need, and purchase a Name-Change Ticket, which costs 40 Medals.
- Select an unequipped weapon in the item menu and choose the "Change Name" option.
- Enter the name of the weapon you want with the correct spelling, capitalization, and spacing. If done correctly, the weapon will transform into the weapon you've named.
- TIP: To obtain the Ultimate Weapons, use the following names for Max's weapons: LEGEND, Grade Zero, Supernova, Sigma Bazooka, Last Resort
- TIP: To obtain the Ultimate Weapons, use the following names for Monica's weapons: Five-Star Amulet, Island King, Dark Cloud, Muramasa, Griffon Fork, Chronicle 2
