Dar Williams is an American folk singer/songwriter whose heartfelt lyrics made her a success on the festival circuit. While most of her work has been as a solo artist, she occasionally collaborates with Richard Shindell and Lucy Kaplansky in the folk trio Cry, Cry, Cry.
Recurring themes in Williams' songs include religion, adolescence, gender issues, anti-commercialism, misunderstood relationships, loss, humor, and geography.
Besides singing and songwriting, Williams is an accomplished children's book author, and has penned the Amalee series of books, including the book Lights, Camera, Amalee.

Career
Williams began singing at her alma mater, Wesleyan University, and spent 10 years in the town of Northampton, MA, where she sang in local coffeehouses. She then got the chance to open for legendary singer Joan Baez, who also recorded several of Williams' songs. Williams is active in many causes, including founding the Snowden Environmental Trust. Williams frequently takes part in benefit concerts. She is also an active participant in the Echoes Initiative, allowing the group to tap into her fans and audiences.
