Daphne Loves Derby formed in 2002 after fourteen year old Jason Call had attended a performance by a band in which Choi was a member. Call sent an instant message to Kenny Choi and the two agreed to have a jam session. After jamming together they decided to form a band along with fourteen year old Stu Clay. Kenny Choi was only 18 at the time and still in high school while the other 2 members were in junior high. The trio began to play venues on weekends and created a demo in 2003 and placed it on purevolume for free downloads and i it began to receive an unusual amount of downloads per day.
After their popularity grew, the band began touring. The trio only performed on weekends due to their school schedules. Call went on to graduate high school and college while touring and all by the time he was 18. The band began to get several label offers and they were able to take their time and decide which would be the best label for them. The trio decided to sign with Independent label, Outlook Records and released their debut EP, Closing Down the Pattern Department in 2004.
2005-2008
In 2005, they released their debut full length album, 'On the Strength of All Convinced, which received good reviews by the critics. The band followed their release with a tour of North America and Japan. After the completion of the tour, the band took a break to work on their second full length album. In 2007 the trio released Night, Witness Night.
Shortly after completing the album in 2006, Call left the band to continue his education and pursue missionary work. The band had added Spencer Abbott to the roster before recording Good Night, Witness Night and March 27, 2008 he announced that he would be leaving the band to take care of personal business. The newest addition to the band is David Sparks who will be replacing the bass position.
