Danys Baez is a right-handed pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. A native of Cuba, Baez defected from the Cuban National Team in 1999 following the Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Canada. The Cleveland Indians signed Baez as an amateur free agent. After Reaching the majors, Baez pitched three seasons for the Indians, including a 2002 campaign in which he won 10 games. In 2004 Baez signed a free agent contract to pitch for the Tampa Bay Rays. After a couple of years in Tampa, Baez was traded with Lance Aybar to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Edwin Jackson and Chuck Tiffany. The Dodgers woud later trade Baez, Willy Aybar, and cash to the Atlanta Braves for Wilson Betemit. In the winter of 2006, Baez signed a free agent contract with the Orioles.
Strengths
Baez has great stuff, with movement on his 90+ mph fastball, complimented by a good curve.[1]
Weaknesses
Surrenders too many runs for a setup man/closer.[1]
